EAIC refers AADK drug addict release case to public prosecutor

PETALING JAYA: The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) has concluded its investigation into allegations that National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) officers in Negeri Sembilan released drug addicts who tested positive during an operation two years ago.
The commission had received a complaint alleging that AADK officers neglected their duties by releasing several individuals who tested positive for drug abuse during a raid at Kampung Felda LBJ, Labu, Negeri Sembilan, on March 8, 2023. The EAIC stated that this alleged act constitutes an offense under Section 211 of the Penal Code.
'EAIC decided to refer the investigation's findings to the public prosecutor in accordance with subparagraph 30(1)(c) of Act 700,' read the commission's statement.
In addition to the referral for potential prosecution, the EAIC has also forwarded findings related to disciplinary offenses committed by the involved AADK officers to the Disciplinary Authority. This comes 'along with a recommendation for disciplinary action under subparagraph 30(1)(b) of Act 700.'

Tok Singa, 3 other traditional healers jailed for assault causing lecturer's blindness

KOTA BARU: Four traditional medicine practitioners were sentenced to four years in jail by the Sessions Court here today for assaulting a lecturer and causing permanent blindness in his left eye in August 2021. Judge Mohd Zul Zaqikudin Zulkifli handed down the sentence to all four accused, including two known by their aliases, Wea Selamos, whose real name is Mohd Shamsul Izwan Midin, 37, and Tok Singa, whose real name is Muhammad Firdaus Mohd Adnan, 37. The other two accused are Idrees Ishak, 46, and Mohd Eric Mohd Ramli, 39. In his judgment, Mohd Zul Zaqikudin said the defence presented by all four was merely a denial. "As such, all the accused are found guilty and sentenced to three years' imprisonment, effective today," he said. According to the charge, they were accused of voluntarily causing grievous hurt to the victim, Ahmad Shahrill 'Ariff Zainol, 43, which led to permanent blindness in his left eye. The offence took place at a guesthouse on Jalan Sultan Yahya Petra here at about 4am on Aug 5, 2021. All the accused were charged under Section 325 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of seven years and a possible fine upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Kamarul Hasyime Rosli prosecuted while all four accused were represented by Mohd Azrul Hasyimi Mohamad. Earlier, Mohd Azrul Hasyimi applied for a stay of execution to file an appeal on behalf of his clients. The court allowed the application and increased the bail from RM3,000 to RM5,000 for each accused.

Sibu police launch manhunt after rape suspect escapes custody

Buni SIBU (June 22): A 25-year-old Indonesian national remanded in connection with a rape case escaped from Sibu Central police station here at around 4pm yesterday. Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, in a statement, said the suspect, identified as Buni, was still wearing handcuffs and purple lock-up attire at the time of his escape. 'The suspect was remanded for an investigation under Section 376 (3) of the Penal Code Act for rape. 'We launched Op Kesan immediately, involving all elements to trace the suspect,' he said.
