In fact, I'm convinced this lot of titles is so good that you'll even snub your PS5 or Xbox – at least for the moment.
Better still, all five of them are available on iPhone, Android, and iPad, so there's something for everyone.
These games are truly brilliant, with hours of replayability, immense depth, and no upfront fees to play.
Best mobile game #1 – Wild Rift
First on my list is Wild Rift, which is a mobile version of PC gaming mega-hit League of Legends.
It's a fantasy MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) where two teams face off with the aim of dominating a battleground.
There are dozens of magical and mystical characters to play, each with different abilities.
And though it's easy to pick up, it could you take years to truly master.
As you progress through the game, you'll find yourself battling more skilled players, so you'll never be short of a challenge.
And Riot Games' Wild Rift is constantly being updated with new characters, modes, and mini-games, so there's always something to do.
Best mobile game #2 – Polytopia
Polytopia is a fiendishly replayable "4X" game – that stands for Explore, Expand, Exploit, and Exterminate.

Polytopia is a colourful and thrilling strategy game

You're set loose upon a map occupied by opposing tribes, and it's your goal to build a civilisation, conquer your enemies, and dominate the world. All through your phone screen.
The game is turn-based and involves a decent amount of strategy, and is easily paused for you to come back later. It also works offline, so this is a great option for flights.
It feels far easier to pick up than the hit Civilisation game series – and is bright, colourful, and suits shorter gameplay sessions.
You can ramp up the difficulty of the AI, the number of enemies, and size of the map for extended games – or trim it all back for a quick session.

And because there are so many different tribes with different perks, you can come at the game from lots of different play-styles.
Best mobile game #3 – Kingdom Rush
Kingdom Rush is an entire series of games that kicked off back in 2011.
They're not all free, but the first one is – and it's a cracker.
Kingdom Rush is a tower defence game set in a medieval fantasy realm where you control wizards, archers, and knights to fend off baddies.

Your reinforcements and power-ups get more sophisticated as you progress through increasingly difficult levels.
And the thrill of creating a truly epic defence is like no other.
The Kingdom Rush games are fun and don't take themselves too seriously. They're also easy to pick up, with relatively short levels that can easily be enjoyed on a commute or during a lunch break.
And you'll probably find yourself wanting to pay for the sequels. I certainly did.

MOBILE GAMING – THE GAME HAS CHANGED
Here's a quick take from The Sun's tech editor Sean Keach...
Back in the day, most mobile games were cheap and cheerful – but no match for console titles.
Soon game makers clocked on to the fact that pretty much everyone has a smartphone and/or tablet.
And very few people have consoles by comparison.
So developers have poured huge amounts of money into making mobile games, resulting in plenty of brilliant console-rivalling titles.
Pair that with the fact that the latest phones and tablets have very impressive computing power, pixel-dense displays, and access to fast internet, and you'll soon find you've basically got a console in your pocket.
You can also upgrade your phone or tablet by connecting a Bluetooth controller (like the PlayStation's DualSense joypad) for more console-like gaming.
And you could also enjoy actual console games by using a game streaming service like Xbox Cloud Gaming.
You'll save money on a console, and get even more value out of the mobile you're already paying for. Mobile gaming is a no-brainer!

Best mobile game #4 – Old School RuneScape
RuneScape is such a global hit that it almost needs no introduction.
This is the relaunched 2013 "old school" version of the hit massively-multiplayer online role-playing game based on its 2007 version.
Created by British studio Jagex, RuneScape drops you into a vast fantasy world filled with brilliant quests, fearsome bosses, and endless areas to explore.
This is the sort of game you lose days, not hours, to.

The whimsical medieval MMORPG gives players plenty of freedom in terms of gameplay style

It's one of the greatest games ever created and remains wildly popular to this day – so it's a miracle that you can enjoy it on a smartphone.
The game receives regular updates with new content, and has a large online community to play with, so every game session feels different.
RuneScape's very large base game is free, but you can upgrade it with a monthly membership to unlock an absolutely enormous selection of new zones, quests, and more if you prefer.
My only warning: this game is so good, you might find it difficult to put down.
16
There's also a PVP element if you're interested in taking on other players

Best mobile game #5 – Hearthstone
Created by World of Warcraft titans Activision Blizzard, Hearthstone is a beautiful and brilliant online card game.
You collect virtual trading cards to build decks that you can then use to battle against the computer or other players.
And all of the cards are themed around the Warcraft universe, featuring iconic characters and spells from the smash-hit fantasy game.
Hearthstone is very simple to pick up but progresses to very high-level strategy if that's your interest.

And you can play on your own, against a pal, or even versus total strangers.
Blizzard is constantly releasing new cards and decks for Hearthstone, so it never gets stale.
And you don't need to spend a penny on it if you don't want.
This is one of the slickest card games out there, and works just as well on a small phone screen as it does on a giant iPad.

Britpop legend reveals band's unreleased new song is a ‘banger' ahead of first album in 12 years
OCEAN Colour Scene are working on new music which could become the band's first album in 12 years, The Sun can exclusively reveal. The popular British band has five top 10 albums to its name but hasn't put out a full length release since 2013's Painting. 4 4 That might soon change as frontman Simon Fowler has written three new tracks, one of which guitarist Steve Cradock has branded a "banger". In an exclusive interview with The Sun ahead of their performance at Godiva Festival, Cradock, 55, said: "Simon sent me three tunes, that's what I've heard. I've demoed them up to a point where they sound f**king smart. There's one banger, and there's one interesting one. "I mean, we haven't done a record in like 11 years or something, we've been waiting for Simon to write for a long, long time. " The Beatles wrote together for eight years. That sort of puts it into some kind of funk. From where I sit at the moment, it would be fun for us all to do it, I think." The group's back catalogue includes singles The Day We Caught The Train and The Riverboat Song, both of which are currently getting play time during festival season. Having released 10 albums to date, Cradock is content playing Ocean Colour Scene's hits, of which there are many - 17 top 40 singles to be precise. "I don't think it would make a difference to gigs, if I'm honest," he says of a new record. "Because we've kind of got what we are through all the albums that we did back in the day. And when we play festivals, we play the main singles that people know, obviously. "I don't see the point in being self-absorbed when you're doing festivals. You've just got to play the songs that people hopefully will know. And leave it at that. "It's different for your own gigs. There's many tunes that we can unearth. I think that those sort of fans would find it interesting." While he wouldn't be drawn on a timescale for a new album, Cradock says the creative process could be very quick if material is right. Paul Weller - Wildwood "If the songs are there, it wouldn't take me long at all to produce it and to get it out." Away from Ocean Colour Scene, Cradock plays guitar for Paul Weller, a role he's held since 1992. Last year's 66 featured in numerous best of 2024 lists and will be followed this July by the Modfather's covers album, Finding El Dorado, featuring the likes of Robert Plant and Noel Gallagher. "It's beautiful, because you can see what a creative force Paul Weller is," he says. "That's just what he does, and he's a force of nature, and he's a force of melody. When you're in the studio, you see things happen just like that, in the instant, the second. And then, by the end of the day, something's happened. "There's not many days that I've seen where people got that disappointed. To be around that creative process is great." 4 4 Weller didn't hang around, laying it down in just 10 days, and there were no egos in the studio despite the calibre of musicians involved. Led Zeppelin frontman Plant turned up ready and willing to work like a regular session musician. "He was prepared for it, like a working musician, not a rock god," says Cradock. "He was humbling and he played some beautiful harp. Then we asked if he would sing and he sang and it was just like, 'wow'." Mod fan Cradock rejoiced in hearing Plant's tales from his days before superstardom, particularly how he played a role in a notorious battle between two subcultures on the south coast. "He told me he left the Black Country in '64 on his hand-painted Lambretta, went down to Hastings and got involved in the mods and rockers fight and then drove back on his Lambretta. "It blew my mind the fact that you've got this sort of rock icon who was originally a mod fighting the rockers. "He was a gentleman and he's a great singer and he's really tuned in to what's happening in that moment you know, a true professional, a G. He's a f***ing G." Music fans can hear Plant do his thing when the record is released on July 25.

Wayne later said he was "disappointed" with McGregor for attacking his employee and friend Joe Gomez. He continued: "I've since deleted my post of Conor at Ocean on Sunday. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. "We at Ocean Beach Ibiza will always put our family first #wearefamily." McGregor made his UFC debut in April 2013. He quickly won over fight fans with his mix of fast hands and aggressive grappling. The Notorious has tasted victory in 22 of his 28 pro fights, but hasn't entered the octagon since a rematch loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021.

Formed in 1992, vocalist Jay Kay, 55, fronts the acid jazz and funk band. Jay arrived wearing a black hat with purple trim, purple trousers and white fringe jacket. One fan wrote online: "She brought out Jamiroquai! She did that for me." Another shared: "Just saw Dua Lipa bring Jamiroquai out at Wembley. Some month and I haven't even got to glasto yet." It comes as Dua has emulated her idol Madonna by playing the iconic venue aged just 29. Dua's first UK gig was at a 375-people capacity venue in Hackney nine years ago. She is the same age as Madonna was when she headlined Wembley in 1987 as part of her Who's That Girl Tour. Just five other women — Beyonce, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Adele and Pink — have headlined the venue. Only Swift and Rihanna were younger than Dua, both performing there aged 28. 'Shaken' Dua Lipa in terrifying security scare after fans sneak into her hotel and are found outside her bedroom An insider told The Sun: 'Playing Wembley is a dream come true for Dua and to sell out both nights feels incredible. She's not even at the peak yet and has so much more she wants to achieve. 'To be headlining stadiums with just three albums under her belt proves how influential her music has been. Her world tour has been a huge success. She's on cloud nine.' Elsewhere, Lidl has recreated Dua Lipa's viral pickle and jalapeño juice Cola drink. The superstar previously divided fans after sharing her unusual recipe on TikTok. At the time, celebrities like Gordon Ramsay and Prue Leith even tried the concoction for themselves. In a post that received over 11.5K views Gordon mixed Dua Lipa's recommended spicy ingredients in with his Diet Coke, and took a large sip - only to end up spitting it out in disgust. "Dua Lipa, for God's sake, girl!" he shouted while coughing. Dua Lipa's love life: A history Who has Dua Lipa dated in the past? Isaac Carew Dua dated the British model and chef twice. The started dating in 2015 before splitting up two years later due to scheduling issues. They rekindled their romance in 2018 before splitting for good a year later. Paul Klein After she broke up from Isaac in 2017, she embarked on a new relationship that same year with the musician. They broke up after just five months of dating in 2018. Anwar Hadid One of her most high-profile relationships was with Anwar Hadid, brother of supermodels Gigi and Bella Hadid. Although they quarantined together during the COVID-19 Pandemic they called it quits in 2021 as Dua wanted to focus on being single Jack Harlow In December 2022, it was claimed that both of the music pairing were 'hanging out' together. Although after a few months it seemed that the relationship fizzled out. Romain Gavras The French director was first linked to Dua back in 2023 when they were seen in London leaving the BAFTA Awards afterparty together in February. They later walked the red carpet together at the Cannes Film Festival in May. They were later pictured together over the summer that year in July and August as they celebrated his birthday. She has since deleted mentions of him off of her Instagram. Callum Turner In January 2024, Callum celebrated the release of his Apple TV+ series, Masters of Air. The pair were spotted together at the afterparty of the premiere in Los Angeles. They were then spotted getting close on a number of dates. Insiders since revealed that the duo have travelled together and have met each other's families. The pair then became more public with their relationship before rumours circulated of an engagement over the festive period. The singer appeared to confirm the news on social media, posting a photo with her huge ring in plain sight. "You'll ruin your vocal cords, s***," the restaurateur warned to the singer before ending the video. Speaking to Lorraine Kelly on ITV, Prue's verdict was: "The drink was 'far too sweet'". Continuing, the Bake Off judge added she "liked the jalapenos", but thought it could be improved with "a little bit of vinegar" to balance flavourss.
