Encounter Between Security Forces, Terrorists In J&K, Search Ops Underway

An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Awantipora. A joint team of police and army launched an operation in Tral area of South Kashmir. Fierce gun battle is underway.
The encounter started at Nader and Tral area of Awantipora. Police and security forces are on the job, Kashmir Police wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

This is the second encounter in 48 hours.
On Tuesday (May 13), three terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian. The encounter initially began in Kulgam and then shifted to a forest area in Shopian. Security forces intercepted the terrorists following an intelligence input.
The Indian Army posted on X, "On 13 May 2025, based on specific intelligence of a Rashtriyas Rifles Unit, about presence of terrorists in general area Shoekal Keller, Shopian, Indian Army launched a search and destroy Operation. During the operation, terrorists opened heavy fire and fierce firefight ensued, which resulted in elimination of three hardcore terrorists. Operation is in in progress."

Several operations are being carried out in Jammu and Kashmir on a regular basis, particularly after the Pahalgam terror attack of April 22, in which 26 people were killed. In response to the terror atatck, India on May 7 launched Operation Sindoor, targetting nine terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation escalated bilateral tensions between the two nations, resulting in strikes and counter-strikes.
On May 10, India and Pakistan reached a ceasefire agreement and deciding to halt all military actions on land, air and sea, with effect from 5pm. Pakistan, however, violated the agreement within hours of it coming into effect.

Punjab: Two held with 6kg heroin in Amritsar
Jun 22, 2025 07:54 AM IST In an intelligence-led operation, the Amritsar rural police on Saturday busted a cross-border drug smuggling racket and apprehended its two key operatives with 6kg heroin in the area of Lopoke police station. Police have recovered 6.15kg heroin, one PX5 pistol (30 bore), four live cartridges (30 bore), ₹ 10,000 drug money and a mobile phone from the accused. (HT) The arrested accused were identified as Lovepreet Singh alias Love, a resident of Rajatal, and Balwinder Singh alias Bobby, of Cheecha. Sharing details, senior superintendent of police (Amritsar rural) Maninder Singh said: 'Preliminary investigation reveals the accused were in direct contact with a Pakistan-based smuggler through WhatsApp, indicating a strong cross-border nexus.' He said the special cell was on routine checking near the Barsati drain bridge at Brar village when two youngsters on a motorcycle came from the village side. On spotting the police, they panicked and tried to flee. 'Acting swiftly, the special cell team managed to apprehend them. On questioning, they revealed their names as Lovepreet Singh alias Love and Balwinder Singh alias Bobby. On searching them, police recovered 6.15kg of heroin, one PX5 pistol (30 bore), four live cartridges (30 bore), ₹ 10,000 drug money and a mobile phone,' he added. A case under the NDPS Act and Arms Act has been registered at the Lopoke police station. The SSP said that interrogation of the arrested accused is underway. Police are investigating both forward and backward links of the accused to uncover the supply chain routes. Additionally, properties acquired through illegal drug money by the accused are also being verified.

Punjab: Pak-backed BKI terror module busted, one held with 6 pistols
Jun 22, 2025 07:26 AM IST Amritsar commissionerate police on Saturday dismantled a Pakistan-backed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module operated by UK-based handler Dharam Singh alias Dharma Sandhu. The weapons, smuggled via drones from across the border include four 9MM Glock pistols and two .30-bore PX5 pistols. (HT) Police have arrested a local operative of the module and recovered six foreign-made pistols from his possession, director general of police Gaurav Yadav said. The arrested accused has been identified as Onkar Singh alias Nawab, a resident of Jalalusma village in Amritsar. The weapons, smuggled via drones from across the border include four 9MM Glock pistols and two .30-bore PX5 pistols. The DGP said foreign-based handler Dharam Singh, who has been operating the terror module, is a close associate of Pak-based terrorist Harvinder Singh alias Rinda. Further investigations are underway to establish forward and backward linkages in this case and unearth the broader network, he said. Sharing operation details, Amritsar commissioner of police (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the arrest followed precise intelligence and coordination. 'The accused disclosed during interrogation that the weapons were delivered via drones and were meant for disruptive activities,' he added. He said preliminary investigations revealed the accused was part of a sleeper cell activated by foreign-based handlers to destabilise the state. 'The weapons were to be distributed among local operatives to execute targeted killings and terror activities in the state. We are working to uncover the entire network and its international linkages,' Bhullar said, adding that further investigations are underway to identify other accomplices and handlers. A case under the Arms Act has been registered at Maqboolpura police station in Amritsar.

Op Sindoor proves India safe under Modi, says Majhi
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday said Operation Sindoor has proved that India is safe under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Majhi was addressing a function organised to celebrate the first anniversary of Odisha's maiden BJP government. Showering praises on Modi, who was also present on the dais, Majhi said, 'Earlier, people used to say – 'Modi hai to mumkin hai' (it is possible if Modi is there) but today, the entire country is saying 'Modi hai to desh surakshit hai' (the country is safe when Modi is at the helm).' Majhi said Operation Sindoor is not just an Army operation against terrorists, but a hope for the mothers, sisters and daughters of India. 'With Operation Sindoor, a new India has emerged, which will not bow down under any circumstances. This new India will write its own destiny,' the Chief Minister said. Stating that India is reaching new heights of development under Modi's leadership, Majhi said in the last 11 years, every section of the society has progressed. 'Today, India has become the fourth-largest economy in the world, and is soon going to become $5 trillion economy. Extreme poverty in the country has come down from 27.1 per cent to 5.3 per cent. This proves that under your leadership, the country is changing and is moving forward on the path of development at a rapid pace,' he said. Majhi said Odisha is also making progress and the State's initiatives are modelled keeping in mind the four categories mentioned by Modi – the poor, the farmers, women and youth.
