New Delhi: Mohammadreza Shadloui made history at the start after Season 11's Most Valuable Player was picked up for Rs 2.23 crore in the opening bid of the night by Gujarat Giants for Pro Kabaddi League (PKL).
The double Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) title holder is the first player to be auctioned for over Rs two crore three times in PKL history, as per a statement from PKL.
The other leading player to breach the Rs 2-crore mark was the Best Raider of PKL 11, Devank Dalal. Having led the Patna Pirates line during their final appearance in the previous season, Devank was ultimately purchased by Bengal Warriorz for 2.205 crores, becoming the fifth-most valuable player in the PKL Player Auction.
A new feature of the PKL 12 Player Auction is the newly introduced Final Bid Match (FBM) rule, where teams have an option to recruit back their released players by matching the last auction bid price for one or two seasons.
Dabang Delhi K.C. employed this FBM rule to bring back their marquee raider Ashu Malik into the team on an amount of INR 1.90 crores for the following two seasons.
The next highest offers from Category A were Arjun Deshwal, and Tamil Thalaivas signed him for Rs 1.405 crore, while Yogesh Dahiya will play for Bengaluru Bulls having been signed for Rs1.125 crore.
'The PKL 12 Player Auction for Category A shows how performance plays a key role, with Shadloui and Devank being rewarded with exceptional bids of over Rs 2 Crore. We also saw five Crorepatis in this Category, and the new two-season FBM rule is making an impact after being used by Patna Pirates and then Dabang Delhi K.C. This sets the stage for the rest of the Categories as the franchises build their squads for another season of exciting kabaddi action,' said Anupam Goswami, Business Head, Mashal Sports & League Chairman, Pro Kabaddi League.

Rishabh Pant's Unique Six-Hitting Stat In Record-Breaking Innings At Leeds

Rishabh Pant broke multiple records en rout to scoring his seventh century. India's Rishabh Pant surpassed MS Dhoni for the most centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper in Test cricket, achieving his seventh century on the second day of the series opener against England. Pant hit a six off the first ball of the 100th over in India's first innings, clearing the fence off Shoaib Bashir to reach the milestone. This was his first century since September 2024, when he scored 109 against Bangladesh. In 90 Tests, Dhoni had accumulated 4,876 runs with six centuries and 33 fifties, averaging 38.09. During this innings of 134 off 178 balls (12 fours, 6 sixes), Pant also completed 3,000 runs in 44 Tests, boasting 15 fifties and an average of nearly 44. He remains the highest run-scorer as an Indian wicketkeeper-batter in Tests. Wriddhiman Saha is third on this list with two centuries, followed by Syed Kirmani and Farokh Engineer, who also have two each. Nayan Mongia has scored one century. Pant's 6-Hitting Record The wicket-keeper-batter achieved a remarkable feat in a Test innings in England by hitting six sixes, the highest number by a visiting batter in the sport's history. This accomplishment also places him as the joint-second-highest scorer by an Indian in a Test innings away from home, behind Hardik Pandya's seven against Sri Lanka in 2017. Rishabh Pant 's innings of 134 runs is the second-highest by a wicketkeeper at Headingley, only behind Jonny Bairstow's 140 against Sri Lanka in 2016. Pant's notable achievement of hitting a century with a six has become a hallmark of his Test career. He has achieved this remarkable feat three times in Tests, all against England. His first century with a six was against Adil Rashid at The Oval in 2018, followed by Joe Root in Ahmedabad in 2021, and Shoaib Bashir in Leeds. Among Indian batsmen, only Sachin Tendulkar (six) and Rohit Sharma (three) are around Pant's numbers. Since 2002, Pant has been the only batter to hit a six to complete his hundred more frequently than any other player. Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum, Kumar Sangakkara, Rohit Sharma, and Kusal Mendis have also achieved this feat three times during this period. Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant Playing "Mind Games With...": Sachin Tendulkar's Eagle-Eyed Analysis Of 1st Test

Former India great Sachin Tendulkar took to social media to highlight the 'mind games' that Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill were playing on the English bowlers during their 209-run stand for the fourth wicket in the first Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Resuming Day 2 of the first Test on 65 not out, Pant displayed immense maturity and poise in the early hours of play. Pant absorbed the early pressure from England's bowlers before unleashing his trademark attacking strokes. He reached his century mark with a six off Shoaib Bashir and then broke out into his trademark somersault celebration. He played a valuable knock of 134 before being caught plumb by Josh Tongue. 'Rishabh's celebration is as entertaining as his batting! Well done, Rishabh,' posted Sachin. Tendulkar also pointed out how Pant's 'extremely clever' falling paddle sweep helps him and how conversing in Hindi allowed the batters to play mind games with the bowling attack. 'Rishabh's falling paddle sweep is not accidental. It is intentional and extremely clever. Going down with the shot allows him to get under the ball and scoop it over the leg slip with control. 'Also noticed something interesting during Bashir's spell. Shubman and Rishabh were speaking loudly in Hindi between deliveries. It wasn't just casual talk. They were playing mind games with the bowler, trying to disrupt his rhythm. These minor details may not appear on the scoreboard, but they can have a significant impact on the game,' added Tendulkar. He was subjected to immense criticism, but former India cricketer Deep Dasgupta also took to social media to reiterate the simple message of - 'I told you so' in regards to Pant. 'I know everyone hates an 'I told you so' but this is exactly why I kept saying that the IPL form will have no bearing on what Rishabh #Pant does in England. Always the X factor, proper match winner in this format. And now the Indian keeper with the most tons!' posted Dasgupta.
