
CM hands over appointment letters to 964 recruits

Bhubaneswar: Emphasising the crucial role of youth power in the state's development, chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi distributed appointment letters to 964 recruits at the Nijukti Mela (recruitment fair) held here on Monday.
The recruitment drive spans five departments, with the works department receiving 563 appointees. Other departments include water resources with 62 posts, panchayati raj and drinking water with 117, housing and urban development with 204, and food supply and consumer welfare with 18 positions.
Majhi highlighted his govt's commitment to accelerating employment opportunities in both public and private sectors.
"We have set an ambitious target of filling 1,50,000 govt positions within five years, with 65,000 posts to be filled in the first two years," he said.
The CM said that 28,346 appointments were already made, marking a historic achievement. "The private sector absorbed 45,000 youths in the first year alone, bringing the total employment figure to 73,346 across both sectors," said Majhi, highlighting the state's decision to raise the age limit for govt employment to 42 years.
He also said that strict laws were enacted to make the recruitment process transparent, fair and corruption-free.
The CM urged the appointees to maintain integrity and remain committed to public service while implementing govt welfare activities for the state's development.
"The Utkarsh Odisha 2025 initiative attracted 1.7 million investments across 16 sectors, potentially creating 1.29 million job opportunities. Within five months of its launch, 56 industrial establishments were inaugurated, promising 1,10,000 jobs," a govt statement read.
Food supplies minister Krushna Chandra Patra, housing minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra and works minister Prithiviraj Harichandan, among others, were present.

The minimum number of participants for the record was 250; they had to hold the Yoga Cobra pose for at least a minute. A total of 2184 participants breached the one-minute timeline; they ended up holding the cobra pose for two minutes and nine seconds. The Guinness World Records discounted 64 participants, after which 2121 participants held the cobra pose for two minutes and nine seconds to clinch the Guinness World Record. 'The Guinness World Records title that starts today is the most people performing the cobra pose in yoga, simultaneously. We set a guideline that everyone had to do it for at least a minute each, and we set a minimum target of 250 participants. Today, they did it for more than a minute, they did it for two minutes and nine seconds, and the total was 2185. We had to discount 64 participants. So the confirmed title is 2121 participants. Given we set a minimum of 250, this is smashing the Guinness World Record. Congratulations to everyone involved, and it's a fantastic achievement', Richard Stunning told ANI. (ANI)

Addressing a state-level function celebrating one-year of the first BJP government in the state, the prime minister said the Majhi government has made sincere efforts to live up to the expectations of people. 'I extend my heartfelt greetings to the people of Odisha for their support and trust. I also congratulate the chief minister and his entire team for their commendable work,' Modi said. The PM said, 'Odisha is not just a state. It is a radiant beacon of India's rich heritage. It will generate lakhs of new employment opportunities for the youth. 'Nearly `1.5 lakh crore has already been invested in Odisha's petroleum and petrochemical sectors. Odisha is rapidly advancing towards becoming India's petrochemicals hub,' he added. Releasing the Odisha Vision Document, the prime minister said, 'Our government is not limited to one-year achievements or five-year targets. We are building a roadmap for the coming decades. "Our govt has organised 10 employment fairs thus far, providing jobs to 28,346 young men and women," Majhi said.
