Former Olympic snowboarder Ryan Wedding added to FBI's 10 most wanted list

A former Olympic snowboarder accused of running an international drug smuggling network behind four murders has been added to the FBI's list of 10 most wanted fugitives.
A $10m (£7.7m) reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest of Ryan Wedding, 43, who competed for Canada in the giant slalom at the 2002 winter games.
Wedding - whose aliases include "El Jefe," "Giant" and "Public Enemy"- is accused of running a network that routinely shipped hundreds of kilograms of cocaine from Colombia through Mexico and Southern California, to Canada and other US locations.
He is also suspected of orchestrating four murders and an attempted murder.
"Wedding went from shredding powder on the slopes at the Olympics to distributing powder cocaine on the streets of US cities and in his native Canada," said Akil Davis, the assistant director of the FBI's Los Angeles field office.
"The alleged murders of his competitors make Wedding a very dangerous man."
Wedding was charged last year and an indictment in September alleged he and others arranged the shipment of some 60 tonnes of cocaine a year using long-haul trucks.
The FBI said a dozen people had been arrested in connection with the case.
US authorities allege the group killed two members of a family in Canada in retaliation for a stolen drug shipment in what officials there said was a case of mistaken identity, as well as two other people.
"The former Canadian snowboarder unleashed an avalanche of death and destruction, here and abroad," said special agent Matthew Allen.
"He earned the name 'El Jefe', becoming boss of a violent transnational drug trafficking organisation.
"Now, his face will be on 'The Top 10 Most Wanted' posters. He's unremitting, callous and greed-driven.
"Today's announcement beams an even brighter searchlight on him. We ask that you help us find him."
Investigators believe Wedding is living in Mexico but have not ruled out that he could be in the US, Canada, Colombia, Honduras, Guatemala, Costa Rica, or elsewhere.

Bride, 27, dead and child among the injured after group gunned down at wedding party in France

A 27-year-old bride was shot dead at her own wedding by a rampaging gang of gunmen in a horror attack - where one other also died and a child was injured. The best day of the newlyweds lives came to a tragic halt when the four masked men shot at the bride and groom as they were leaving the celebrations at around 4.30am today. The men were armed with 'several types of weapons', said Avignon public prosecutor Florence Galtier. The bride and groom, 25, were reportedly leaving their car when they were ambushed by the attackers, who arrived in a golf cart. In a desperate attempt to escape the attack, the groom reversed in his car and one of the gunmen was hit 'in return' and killed. A 13-year-old was in the couple's car and received serious injuries alongside the husband. The husband's sister was also hurt as police rushed to the Vaucluse venue, in Goult, in the south of France. Dozens of police and a helicopters have been mobilised to track down the three remaining gunmen who fled the scene. The terrifying incident might be linked to possible drug-related score-settling, according to a source close to the investigation. It is said a large-scale operation involving around 100 police has been launched to find those responsible for the shooting, which plunged the tiny picturesque village of Goult into shock. Local officials believe the attack was planned, and potentially gang-related, according to Le Figaro. The groom had a long history of criminal offences and his sister also had a violent offence on her record, said the French newspaper. The authorities have opened an investigation into murder and attempted murder by an organised gang. Goult Mayor Didier Perello said he was 'angry' and 'outraged' by the attack, adding he would not rule out any possible explanations. 'We're close to towns, I won't name them, where unfortunately, we've already seen this kind of thing before. 'The village hall had been rented for a wedding by people who don't live in the commune.' Guillaume Molinas, 50, said he feared that the tragedy would 'give the village a bad name.' 'The last major incident in the village was 125 years ago,' said the owner of a restaurant.

Police: Suspect shot and killed by a security guard after a shooting at a Michigan church

A gunman opened fire during a service at a suburban Detroit church on Sunday, wounding one person before he was shot and killed by a security guard, police said. The shooting happened around 11 a.m. at CrossPointe Community Church in Wayne, a city of about 17,000 people some 25 miles (40 kilometers) east of Detroit, the church's pastor, Bobby Kelly Jr., told the Detroit News. Police said one person was shot in the leg. Kelly said a church member ran the suspect over with his truck, giving the security guard time to shoot him. Police described the suspect as a 31-year-old white male. The person who was shot in the leg was the security guard, the pastor told the newspaper. No one else was hurt, he said. About 150 people were attending the service, Kelly said. Wayne Police Deputy Chief Finley Carter III said it was too early to know why the church was attacked. FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino tweeted that bureau 'leadership and support teams' were at the scene and helping with the investigation. Messages left by The Associated Press on Sunday on voicemail and a Facebook page for the church were not immediately returned. ___
