MUSCAT, June 15 (KUNA) -- The GCC Statistical Center announced that estimated government spending for GCC countries in 2025 reached USD 542.1 billion, with projected revenues of USD 487.8 billion, resulting in a USD 54.3 billion deficit.
The center noted that GCC government revenues remain heavily dependent on global oil prices, as oil income makes up the bulk of financial resources, noting that GCC countries adopt conservative oil price estimates when drafting budgets to manage volatility.
Revenues are expected to remain relatively stable, provided oil prices stay at moderate to high levels, and most GCC countries have forecast increased spending for 2025 compared to 2024, viewing higher expenditure as a key driver of economic growth.
The budgets focus on completing infrastructure projects and stimulating growth in various sectors to advance strategic development plans, adding that to finance deficits, GCC countries plan to draw from reserves and use domestic and foreign borrowing.
Based in Oman, the GCC Statistical Center serves as the official body for data and statistics related to GCC countries, supporting national statistical centers and planning authorities across the region. (end) nfa.ahm

KUWAIT: The Center for Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Studies at Kuwait University hosted a lecture titled 'Kuwait in Foreign Eyes' on Thursday, delivered by Croatian Ambassador to Kuwait Emir Muharemi. 'These activities are integral to our mission, especially as we mark a cherished national occasion,' he noted, stressing the importance of promoting cultural exchange and enhancing Kuwait's presence across scientific, diplomatic and cultural arenas. In remarks to KUNA, Ambassador Muharemi said the lecture aimed to offer foreign diplomats and business professionals a concise overview of Kuwait's political landscape, foreign policy, and international standing. He noted that the book explores key milestones in Kuwait's modern history, including its independence, the adoption of the constitution, and the establishment of the country's parliamentary democracy. The ambassador also delved into Kuwait's historical ties with the Ottoman Empire and Britain, the founding of the Mubarak Al-Sabah dynasty, and the delineation of Kuwait's modern borders. Kuwaiti oil tanker Al-Dasma rescues a boat of refugees in the Mediterranean Sea. — KUNA KUWAIT: In a remarkable humanitarian achievement, Kuwait added a new milestone to its long-standing record of compassion as the Kuwaiti oil products tanker Al-Dasma, operated by Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC), responded to a distress call and rescued 40 refugees stranded in the Mediterranean Sea after their boat broke down and they ran out of food and water. In a statement to KUNA on Thursday, KOTC said the initiative reflects its unwavering commitment to international principles for the protection of lives at sea and reinforces Kuwait's humanitarian role on the global stage. The company explained that on Tuesday evening, while en route to Egypt, Dasma spotted a disabled vessel carrying 40 refugees. In coordination with the Egyptian Search and Rescue Authority and KOTC's office, the tanker altered its course to rescue the passengers, providing them with water, food and temporary shelter on board. Dasma then continued its journey to Port Said, where on Thursday the refugees were safely disembarked in coordination with Egyptian authorities, following all necessary procedures in accordance with relevant international laws and humanitarian agreements. KOTC noted that this is not the company's first such operation. On June 15, 2014, its crude oil tanker Al-Salmi carried out a similar rescue mission off the coast of Italy, saving a group of refugees in an effort that earned wide international praise and formal recognition from the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The company emphasized that safety and marine environmental protection are core priorities of its strategy. These humanitarian missions are part of its broader efforts to integrate ethical and humanitarian values into its business operations, further cementing its leadership in the maritime transport sector. KOTC affirmed that the rescue operation by Dasma is a practical demonstration of its ability to balance operational efficiency with humanitarian responsibility, and a sincere expression of Kuwait's unwavering commitment to placing human life at the center of its concerns — whether through its maritime fleet or its development initiatives. Kuwait, Austria sign protocol to amend double taxation avoidance agreement
VIENNA, June 18: Kuwait and Austria signed a protocol on Tuesday to amend the existing agreement on the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion between the two countries. The protocol was signed by Kuwaiti Ambassador to Austria Talal Al-Fassam and Austria's State Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, Barbara Ebinger-Midl. Following the signing, Ambassador Al-Fassam told KUNA that the protocol aims to enhance financial transparency through the effective exchange of tax information. He described the amendment as a milestone in strengthening financial and economic cooperation between Kuwait and Austria.
