Veteran Fyfe turns back clock in super sub role
Introducing Nat Fyfe the super sub.
For the second week in a row, the dual Brownlow medallist has had maximum impact from minimal time on the ground – and it could well be an X-factor for the Dockers should they make the finals and go deep.
He offers an experienced head in the clutch and a big, menacing body for fatigued opponents.
As the coach Justin Longmuir said this week, Fyfe is like an extra coach on the bench, a sounding board for teammates taking a rest.
In Fyfe's first game for the season against Gold Coast in round 11, he ripped off the subs vest at three-quarter time and racked up seven telling final quarter possessions.
Last night against the Kangaroos, he replaced Neil Erasmus three minutes before the last change and his impact was felt equally, with nine disposals, two clearances and an inspiring chase down run along the wing.
With 4.25 left in the final term, Fyfe put his head down and reeled in Luke Davies-Uniacke, who helped the veteran by muffing a bounce.
Fyfe then extracted the turnover, fed an opponent and the Dockers were able to muster another scoring chance with the game in the balance.
His night wasn't done yet.
Long after the final siren had sounded and minutes after belting out Freo Heave Ho with his teammates, Fyfe was back out in the middle, building some running loads in the centre square.

Fremantle's Liam Reidy on being the forgotten man in the Dockers' ruck dilemma
Fremantle's Liam Reidy has conceded the success of ruckmen who have thrived at a second club does cross his mind as he battles to get a game ahead of stars Luke Jackson and Sean Darcy. Reidy is almost the forgotten man in the debate which surrounds the Dockers' ruck stocks, with persistent talks around the validity of coach Justin Longmuir playing both Jackson and Darcy in the same team. The 204cm mature-age rookie has played only three AFL games in three seasons and is unlikely to add to that this year unless either of the big men ahead of him in the pecking order are injured. This is despite Reidy's solid form in the WAFL for Peel Thunder, where he averages 42 hit-outs and 14 disposals. Reidy is arguably following a similar path to former Docker Lloyd Meek, who managed only 15 games in five seasons at the harbour club before he was traded to Hawthorn, where he has become one of the game's best tap-men. When asked if he looks at the success of Collingwood's Darcy Cameron and Meek as examples of ruckmen who have starred at their second clubs, Reidy said: 'You kind of think about that when you're not getting an opportunity. 'But I am at Freo at the moment and the rest of the year, so I am just worried about putting my best foot forward every week and playing some good footy. The rest will take care of itself.' Reid hasn't played for Fremantle since the disappointing round one defeat to Geelong, but he hasn't given up hope off suiting up again. 'I want to be playing at the top level, but I know the two boys ahead of me are pretty solid players as well,' he said. 'I am just trying to get better and keep developing myself, speaking to the line coaches, the ruck coach as well and continuing to get better every week. 'I keep it pretty week to week. I've got the things I need to work on, so I'll just jeep on doing that and bringing my strengths every week and stacking up good performances and keep on moving forward. I don't look too long-term at all.' Reidy said he looked up to North Melbourne counterpart Tristan Xerri as well as Melbourne captain Max Gawn, who taught him a lesson during a pre-season game in Mandurah this year. 'You learn a lot. Those blokes are so smart, and the ruck is a chess battle really,' he said. 'He's done it so many times at the top level, so after that you learn a lot once you dissect it and go through the film. He taught me a few things, that's for sure.'

Fremantle midfielder Neil Erasmus selling several worn guernseys including Peel Thunder jumper
Fremantle midfielder Neil Erasmus is selling several of his player-worn guernseys, including the Peel Thunder one he wore in his Simpson Medal-winning performance last year as his future remains unclear. Erasmus, 21, is selling several signed guernseys through a third party on a Facebook group with some going for as much as $500 as well as several pair of boots. It comes after Channel 7's Ryan Daniels reported that Erasmus is being targeted by cross-town rivals West Coast, with his contract at the Dockers to expire at the end of the season. Amongst the collection is the No.19 guernsey Erasmus wore in the Thunder's 2024 grand final victory over East Perth at Optus Stadium last year. The midfielder was named best-on-ground in the game and awarded the Simpson Medal after collecting 26 disposals, laying 11 tackles and kicking two second quarter goals in the 33-point win against the Royals. 'It's been a long year, but it's been such a good one. It probably hasn't gone the way I wanted it, but what a way to finish,' Erasmus said after winning the medal. 'It's sticking to the process and controlling what I can control, and I'm proud of the way I did that this year.' Erasmus is 'taking offers' for the piece of Peel memorabilia that has clearly not been washed by the photos posted. The Subiaco product has played the past six games for the Dockers, including an impressive outing in the win over Essendon on Thursday night when he recorded a career-high seven clearances as well as 21 touches. It is believed Erasmus wants to re-sign at the Dockers — who are expected to table a multi-year deal — despite struggling to cement a regular spot in their best 23 after being drafted with pick No.10 in 2021, playing only 31 games. Erasmus is reported to be at the top of the Eagles' wish list with Sydney's Angus Sheldrick and out-of-favour North Melbourne midfielder Will Phillips also on their radar. Victorian clubs are also believed to be interested in the strong midfielder if he does decide to part ways with the Dockers for more opportunities.
