Iowa football rivalry date featured among top CBS games in 2025 season
College football's foundation is built upon rivalries. It is what makes the sport great, gets fans engaged, and has certain games meaning more than others. For the Iowa Hawkeyes, one rivalry caps off each regular season and seems to do so with fireworks every year.
The Iowa Hawkeyes and Nebraska Cornhuskers square off each year on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, in a game that has morphed into must-see television. It constantly comes down to the final moments to determine the winner of the Heroes Trophy.
With a handful of Iowa's kickoff times announced for their 2025 schedule, their date against Nebraska is set for 11 a.m. CT on Friday, Nov. 28. Set to air on CBS, the matchup has been tabbed as one of the network's top, must-see games of the 2025 season due to its intensity and drama.
Iowa at Nebraska (11/28)
Expect a close one on Black Friday
Iowa and Nebraska have delivered thrills nearly every Thanksgiving weekend for the last decade, and the small margins between the two programs has always packed intensity into their respective regular season finales. The interesting twist here is that while nine of the last 11 games in the rivalry have been decided by seven points or less, nine of the last 11 games have also been won by Iowa.
If Matt Rhule and the Cornhuskers are going to have a true breakthrough season in 2025 it doesn't need to include a win over the Hawkeyes necessarily, but it would definitely help the vibes to finish the regular season by snapping this recent run of struggles. - Chip Patterson, CBS Sports
Although Nebraska leads the all-time series by a margin of 30-22-3, the Hawkeyes have been dominant in recent years. Dating back to 2015, Iowa has lost just once to the Cornhuskers, which came in 2022. Since the rivalry resumed in 2011 after a decade-long hiatus, Iowa owns a record of 10-4.
What makes this game even more intriguing is how often it is decided late. Since 2018, Iowa has had four wins that have come by just three points.

LSU takes College World Series Game 1 vs. Coastal Carolina behind ace Kade Anderson's pitching

OMAHA, Neb. — LSU moved within one victory of its eighth national championship in baseball with a 1-0 victory against Coastal Carolina on Saturday night. Ace pitcher Kade Anderson, No. 3 in Keith Law's latest MLB mock draft, bettered his previous gem at this College World Series with a complete-game masterpiece on the mound before a purple- and yellow-clad overflow crowd in Game 1 of the best-of-three championship series. The 6-foot-2 lefty allowed three hits and struck out 10, throwing 130 pitches. He won his 12th game in 13 decisions this year as a draft-eligible sophomore and snapped the Chanticleers' school-record 26-game winning streak. FIRE US UP, 32 🔥@KadeAnderson32 | ESPN — LSU Baseball (@LSUbaseball) June 22, 2025 Both teams had been undefeated at the CWS. Coastal Carolina had not lost since April 22. Anderson outdueled Cameron Flukey, who also struck out nine in his six innings. Flukey's lone blip came in the first inning when Derek Curiel led off with a single and scored on Steven Milam's one-out single to center field. Advertisement In Anderson's previous outing in Omaha, he lasted seven innings against Arkansas and allowed one run on three hits. LSU coach Jay Johnson is seeking his second title in four seasons with the Tigers, who defeated Florida in the 2023 championship series. The Chanticleers finished 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position against Anderson on Saturday. Don't count Coastal out yet, though. It saved ace starter Jacob Morrison for Game 2 on Sunday. Morrison, a sophomore right-hander, is 12-0. The Chants are 16-1 in games that he's started this season. Morrison leads the nation with 10 outings of six innings or longer in which he's allowed zero or one run. That ranks second in a single season over the past five years only to former LSU star Paul Skenes in 2023.

Anderson's 3-hitter against Coastal Carolina in CWS finals opener puts LSU 1 win away from title

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Kade Anderson pitched a three-hitter in his second straight dominant start, and LSU moved within a win of its second national championship in three years with a 1-0 victory over Coastal Carolina in Game 1 of the College World Series finals Saturday night. The Chanticleers (56-12) lost for the first time in 27 games and must win Sunday to force a third and deciding game Monday night. LSU (52-15) made Steve Milam's RBI single in the first inning stand up with Anderson getting stronger as the game progressed against a Coastal Carolina team that had won its first three CWS games by a combined 24-9. The lefty, a projected top-three pick in next month's MLB amateur draft, was just as good as he was in LSU's CWS opener against Arkansas last weekend. He has allowed one run and six hits and struck out 17 in 16 innings in Omaha. Against the Chanticleers he struck out 10, but he had to deal with traffic on the basepaths after issuing three of his five walks in the first two innings and hitting two batters. He was up to the challenge. The Chanticleers were 0 for 9 with runners in scoring position. Anderson (12-1) walked pinch-hitter Domenico Tozzi with two outs in the ninth, prompting a mound visit from pitching coach Nate Yeskie. Anderson then got Wells Sykes to fly out to end the game. Anderson and catcher Luis Hernandez embraced, and then their teammates mobbed them behind the mound. Anderson worked around two walks in the first inning, got out of the third when Sebastian Alexander was caught stealing third base, and he struck out three in a row after Blagen Pado's double leading off the fourth. After he gave up LSU's early run, Coastal Carolina's Cameron Flukey (8-2) matched zeroes with Anderson from the second to sixth inning. Flukey limited the Tigers to four hits, walked two and struck out nine before turning the ball over to Dominick Carbone to start the seventh. The Tigers are 16-0 when they have a lead at any point when Anderson is pitching. It was Anderson's second shutout of the season. They'll try to lock up their eighth national title Sunday. Coastal Carolina won the national title in its first trip to Omaha in 2016 and is seeking to become the fifth school to win the title in each of its first two trips to the CWS, but the first since Michigan in 1962. ___ AP college sports:

Texas A&M to big leagues: Former Aggie pitcher makes MLB debut for Chicago White Sox

The Texas A&M baseball program had its 65th player in program history make their Major League Baseball debut, as a former Aggie pitcher stepped on the mound for the Chicago White Sox on Saturday afternoon. Left-hander Jake Palisch became the first player to represent the program in their big league debut this year, as he pitched the eighth inning in relief for the White Sox in Game 2 of the road series against the Toronto Blue Jays. Palisch's call-up on Friday was part of multiple moves by the franchise to freshen up a depleted pitching rotation. His contributions during the Aggies' College World Series run can't be overstated, as he notched five saves and 73 strikeouts in 60 1/3 innings. Palisch also earned the Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week honor during a weekend series against Arkansas, where the Richardson, Texas, native struck out 13 batters in 9.1 innings pitched. After his lone season pitching for Texas A&M, he signed with the White Sox as an undrafted free agent. In 15 appearances with the MiLB's Birmingham Barons, the lefty struck out 35 batters and recorded a 1.19 ERA in 53 innings of work. All the hard work and dedication to hone his craft paid off in the form of his MLB debut on Saturday in front of 41,488 people in Toronto. Although the lefty gave up two runs on three hits in his first appearance for the White Sox, he was taking it all in and enjoying the moment that he had worked for his entire life. According to Chicago Sun-Times reporter Mitchell Armentrout, Palisch expressed his feelings about his debut to the media following the 7-1 loss to the Blue Jays. "It's certainly intense," Palisch said. "I'd like to say I was feeling it, but I think I may have blacked out a little bit at first. You kind of lose track of everything that's going on, other than just that pitch and working through it." Once Palisch can settle into his role with the franchise and develop over time, he will be rocking and rolling on the mound in the pinstripes in no time. For a franchise that so desperately needs pitchers at the moment, he will likely be inserted to relieve more frequently for the White Sox moving forward.
