Jaipur: A single judge bench of
Rajasthan High Court
rejected the petitions challenging complete reservation in PC-PNDT and related diploma programmes. The reservation applies exclusively to in-service doctors in Rajasthan or individuals who completed their MBBS from medical institutions within the state.
A single bench of Justice Sameer Jain gave this order while hearing the petition of Anoop Agarwal and others on May 21, with the order uploaded Tuesday.
"This is a policy decision of the govt, and it is also not against the provisions of the Constitution," the court said.
The petitioner said that on April 22, the NEET PG Counselling Board issued an advertisement and sought applications for conducting a six-month ultrasound training course under PC-PNDT.
"It was provided that in the first round, only doctors who have done MBBS from the state's medical colleges and in-service doctors will be included. If seats remain vacant after this, then in the second and subsequent rounds, those who have done MBBS from outside the state will be given a chance. We have challenged this and maintained that the National Medical Commission considers doctors who have done MBBS from anywhere in the country to be equal on the basis of merit," said Tanveer Ahamed, counsel for the petitioner.
In such a situation, the petitioner cannot be discriminated against on the basis of place for admission in this course.

ECI may conduct door-to-door voter verification in state
Patna/New Delhi: With the Bihar assembly elections scheduled for Oct-Nov this year, the Election Commission of India (ECI) is considering launching an intensive house-to-house verification drive as part of the upcoming special summary revision of electoral rolls. The move comes in response to persistent concerns from political parties, civil society organisations and other agencies over alleged arbitrary inclusion and deletion of voters. "In order to make the system completely robust and free of any kind of errors, the ECI is contemplating an intensive house-to-house verification during the upcoming electoral roll revision to purify the rolls," an ECI official said on Sunday. The last such rigorous revision took place in 2004. The verification drive is expected to focus not only on adding eligible citizens but also on removing ineligible entries, including deceased voters, those who have migrated and foreign illegal immigrants who may have been enrolled based on inconclusive documentation. TOI has learnt that methods for identifying and weeding out non-citizens are under discussion and could include document re-verification. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Documents currently accepted as proof of birth include birth certificates, Aadhaar, PAN cards, driving licences, passports and school certificates from CBSE, ICSE or state boards. As per Article 326 of the Constitution and Section 16 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, Indian citizens aged 18 or above — unless disqualified on grounds such as non-citizenship or criminal conviction — are eligible to be enrolled as voters. The ECI emphasised that despite annual revisions and extensive procedural checks, allegations of roll inflation continue to surface. "The entire process is conducted as per legal norms and under scrutiny by political parties, with adequate opportunity for filing claims, objections and appeals," a source said. House-to-house verification will also aid in enrolling new voters who have turned 18, correcting errors in voter details such as names and addresses and rationalising polling stations. This is particularly important as the cap on electors per polling station has been raised from 1,200 to 1,500. Highlighting the scale of electoral mobility, ECI data from 2024 shows that around 46.3 lakh voters changed residence, 2.3 crore applied for corrections, and 33.2 lakh sought replacements, amounting to over 3.2 crore voter record changes nationwide in a single year. A senior EC functionary said, "We are committed to ensuring that only genuine and eligible citizens are enrolled in the electoral rolls." If successful, the Bihar model could be replicated in the next national roll revision.

US strikes on Iran's nuclear sites: Who backed, who condemned, and who raised concerns? Full list
The United States' overnight airstrikes on Iran's nuclear facilities — including the heavily fortified Fordow site — have triggered a wave of global political reaction, marking a sharp escalation in Middle East tensions. While the Biden administration hailed the strikes as a targeted blow against Iran's nuclear ambitions, reactions from lawmakers and world leaders have ranged from full-throated support to strong condemnation and deep concern. From Washington to Tehran, and Tel Aviv to Brussels, the world is now watching how this volatile moment could reshape geopolitics and possibly push the region closer to wider conflict. Israel: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised President Trump's decision, calling it a "pivot of history." 'President Trump acted to deny the world's most dangerous regime the world's most dangerous weapons,' Netanyahu said. 'In Operation Rising Lion, Israel has done truly amazing things, but in tonight's action against Iran's nuclear facilities, America has been truly unsurpassed.' Signs reading "Thank you, Mr President" appeared in Tel Aviv, reflecting public support. Republican leaders in the US: Several Republican lawmakers strongly backed the strikes. 'This was the right call. The regime deserves it. Well done,' said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC). 'We have the best Air Force in the world. Fly, Fight, Win.' Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) compared the decision to President Obama's military actions in Libya and Yemen. Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA): 'Iran is the world's leading sponsor of terrorism and cannot have nuclear capabilities.' Vice President JD Vance: "We are not at war with Iran. We're at war with Iran's nuclear program." "Ukraine is convinced that Iran's nuclear programme must be stopped..." the foreign ministry stated. Progressive Democrats and Independents: 'The President's disastrous decision to bomb Iran without authorisation is a grave violation of the Constitution,' said Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). "It is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment." Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) echoed her concerns: 'The only entity that can take this country to war is the US Congress. The president does not have the right.' Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) called the strikes "not constitutional." Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA): Though a Trump ally, she urged for peace: 'Let us join together and pray for the safety of our U.S. troops and Americans in the Middle East.' Iran: Tehran condemned the strikes as "criminal aggression." "The Islamic Republic of Iran is resolved to defend Iran's territory... by all force and means." Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called Trump a "lawless bully" and said he had betrayed his own voters. 'Grossly violates international law,' said the Foreign Ministry, condemning damage to Iran's nuclear infrastructure. China's foreign ministry "strongly condemns" the strikes, saying they "seriously violate" the UN charter. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stopped short of endorsing the strikes. "Iran cannot be allowed to have a nuclear weapon... We must now de-escalate the situation." Foreign Secretary David Lammy reiterated: 'The UK did not participate in these strikes. We urge Iran to show restraint.' European Union: EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said: "Iran must not be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon... I urge all sides to step back." France President Emmanuel Macron called Iranian President Pezeshkian to urge restraint: "This is the only path to peace and security for all." UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he was "gravely alarmed." 'There is a growing risk this conflict could rapidly get out of control.' Saudi Arabia called for "diplomatic solutions" and warned of "highly sensitive circumstances." Canada PM Mark Carney said the region remains "highly volatile" despite the intent to neutralise nuclear threats.

Revanth Government Hesitating to Conduct Local Body Elections, Alleges BJP in Ayija
Gadwal: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Ayija town have strongly criticized the Telangana state government, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, for its continued delay in conducting local body elections. Addressing a press conference organized at the BJP office in Ayija, the town BJP president Kampati Bhagat Reddy accused the state government of intentionally avoiding the elections due to a lack of courage to face the people. He reminded the media that the schedule for these elections was expected to be announced in mid-February this year, yet there has been no progress since. > 'Despite knowing that the delay in conducting local body elections may lead to the stoppage of central government funds, the Revanth government continues to procrastinate,' Bhagat Reddy stated. He emphasized that Panchayati Raj institutions, the third tier of India's democratic governance structure, are being neglected by the state administration. The 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments were introduced to empower rural and urban local bodies respectively, promoting decentralization, self-governance, and accountability. However, the state government, he claimed, is ignoring this spirit by bypassing elected local bodies and instead routing development activities through various non-representative institutions. > 'Such parallel institutions do not reflect the aspirations and needs of the local population,' he argued, adding that strengthening Panchayats would reduce the financial burden on the state treasury and lead to more sustainable development. Bhagat Reddy accused the government of weakening the financial and administrative autonomy of Panchayats for the sake of maintaining political and economic control, thereby undermining transparency and local governance. He further alleged that the Revanth Reddy-led administration is avoiding elections not only because of public dissatisfaction but also due to internal issues within the ruling party. These include: Failure to implement six key promises made during the elections, A governance paralysis due to the state's reluctance to release funds even for minor works, Lack of coordination among ministers, Public dissatisfaction voiced openly by several MLAs, And the absence of constituency development funds, making it difficult for MLAs to face their constituents. 'Even after more than one and a half years since the expiration of the term of the local body representatives, the government has not provided any clarity on when the elections will be held,' he added. The press meet witnessed participation from other BJP leaders including SC Morcha State Executive Committee member Madanna, Town Vice Presidents Bellamkonda Nagaraju and Veeresh Goud, as well as Lakshmanachari, G. Raghu, Madhavachari, and Raju. They collectively demanded that the state government honor the Constitution, empower local self-governments, and immediately announce the election schedule for Panchayat and municipal bodies.
