A-League: Roar showing interest in Bovalina and Mileusnic
Brisbane Roar have expressed an interest in bringing former Adelaide United defender Giuseppe Bovalina back to the A-League, and also haven't ruled out convincing winger Nikola Mileusnic to rejoin the club.
Roar insiders have confirmed that both Bovalina and Mileusnic are in the club's sights.
Bovalina, 20, joined Major League Soccer Club Vancouver Whitecaps in April last year from the Reds on an initial contract that will expire in 2026.
However, Bovalina is struggling for game time, and could be tempted to kickstart his career at the Roar under the club's new coach, former Adelaide captain Michael Valkanis.
Another former Red in Mileusnic left the Roar after three seasons to join Perth Glory last year.
His Glory contract expires this month, and having started in only nine A-League games for Perth in the club's dismal 2024-25 campaign, a return to Brisbane could very well be on the cards for the 31-year-old attacking weapon, particularly with Valkanis having replaced Ruben Zadkovich as coach.
Nikola Mileusnic could be on his way back to Brisbane Roar. Picture:Meanwhile, former Roar playmaker Keegan Jelacic has signed a two-year deal with Melbourne Victory.
Jelacic, 22, left the Roar last month after joining the club on loan from Belgian outfit Gent in January last year.
The Australian under-23 international has now parted ways with Gent permanently to link with the Victory, who have lost the past two A-League grand finals.
'Joining one of the biggest clubs in the league is always an exciting prospect,' Jelacic said.
'I'm looking forward to experiencing the passion of the club and doing my part on the pitch.'
Victory coach Arthur Diles said Jelacic was an 'example of outstanding young Australian talent with valuable experience both locally and internationally'.
'Keegan's arrival at the club ahead of our 2025-26 campaign will bolster our midfield as we aim to go one better than we did last season,' Diles said.
'We have a strong foundation to build on, and we're looking forward to seeing Keegan bring his best to the team and contribute to our success.'

Minjee Lee in box seat for third major after blitzing field at PGA Championship
Australian golf star Minjee Lee has put herself right in the box seat for a third major after blitzing the field to open up a commanding four-stroke lead heading into the final round of the women's PGA Championship in Texas. Starting her third round in second spot, three shots behind Thailand's halfway leader Atthaya Thitikul, Lee shot a flawless bogey-free round of three-under-69 to jump to the top of the leaderboard at six-under-par for the tournament. 'I just tried to stay patient out there, you can't get ahead of yourself, especially in these conditions,' she said. 'It's only getting harder and harder with the pressure of a major championship and also the course just demands so much from you. 'So I think I'll just try to stay within myself and play the best shot I could, so just stay patient and take it as it comes.' Like every other player on the course, Thitikul struggled in the tricky windy conditions at Fields Ranch East at Frisco, shooting a 76 to end the day at two-under. Lee and Thitikul are the only players under par for the championship, the third women's major for 2025. Their three closest pursuers — American Lexi Thompson, Korea's Hye-Jin Choi and Japan's Miya Yamashita — all finished at one–over, seven behind Lee, the older sister of PGA star Minwoo. Lee is already a dual major champion after claiming the Evian Championship in 2021 and the US Open in 2022. 'I know what it takes to win and I know just kind of what to feel and what to expect now that I have two under my belt,' Lee said. 'I just think the experience that I've had is really going to help me.'

‘It will be very special': Try-scoring record starting to feel real for Alex Johnston after grabbing four more against the Storm
Alex Johnston has never liked talking about the try-scoring record in case he jinxed it, but the reality of breaking Ken Irvine's long-standing mark is starting to hit home for the Souths legend who narrowed the gap on Saturday with four tries against the Storm. The South Sydney winger is now up to 206 tries and is just six behind Irvine's record which many people thought would never be broken. But Johnston, 30, looks set to do it after grabbing a second-half hat-trick in the golden point loss to Melbourne, taking his tally to nine tries in his past four matches against teams that are all in the top four. He's already scored 11 tries in just seven matches this season and could very well break the record as early as next month. 4 TRIES FOR JOHNSTON! He may break the all-time try scoring record tonight! ðŸ'° Watch #NRLSouthsStorm on ch.502 or stream on Kayo: âœï¸ BLOG ðŸ'¢ MATCH CENTRE — Fox League (@FOXNRL) June 21, 2025 'If you told me a few weeks ago, I would have told you I was still a fair bit away,' he replied when asked about possibly becoming the greatest try-scorer in history. 'But I've scored a few tries in the past few games and I'm getting close now. I'll try my best to get it this year. 'It will be very special. 'Hopefully it's a payday, and a third party comes my way and wants to be a part of it.' Johnston was on the receiving end of three glorious assists from Latrell Mitchell, with the winger paying tribute to Cody Walker and Greg Inglis for setting him up for the bulk of his tries. 'Trell was pretty much feeding me those tries, so it was pretty good,' he said. 'They are two special fullbacks that I've played with. Then you've got guys like Cody who probably has even more try assists to me. 'The centres I've had over the years as well, I've been lucky to be on the end of a pretty special backline. 'I'm getting closer to that record, but it's bittersweet losing the way we did. We should have won the game.' The only question now is what the game will do to celebrate Johnston's impending achievement, with fans likely to storm the field as we see in other sports like AFL when someone reaches the 1000-goal mark. Johnston said he didn't have the flair to do anything too crazy, with the winger just content to be back on the field after a serious Achilles injury last year had people wondering if his career – and the record chase – were over. 'I don't want to harp on it too much, but I said when I scored 200 tries a few weeks ago how I wasn't in the best place for a good while [last year], and it was special to go out there and get a standing ovation when I scored 200 tries,' he said. 'It's now 206. I'll keep ticking them over. Things are looking up. 'I was lucky because I've got a pretty good rock at home, and my family are always there for me. 'I'm still probably getting there to be honest. Once I finish this season, without getting injured, touch wood, signing a new contract will be nice, getting that record will be nice, and then I don't know. Another four more years would be nice.' The 2014 premiership winner is off contract at the end of the season but is hopeful that a deal will be struck soon. 'We're still chatting,' he said. 'I don't know if it's locked in yet. I know my manager and Souths were in talks this week. We'll see what happens. I think it's very close.'
