Anurag Kashyap returns to screen as a fearless cop in 'Dacoit', recalls BTS moments with Abhishek Bachchan; shares a memory from 'Manmarziyaan'
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, the creative force behind cult classics like Gangs of Wasseypur, recently stirred nostalgia on social media by sharing an unseen behind-the-scenes photo featuring
Abhishek Bachchan
from the sets of Manmarziyaan.
Taking to his Instagram Stories, Kashyap captioned the picture simply as 'memory from Manmarziyaan,' giving fans a heartfelt glimpse into the making of one of his most emotionally layered films.
Manmarziyaan (2018), which starred Abhishek Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu, and Vicky Kaushal, was praised for its raw and realistic portrayal of modern-day love and complex relationships. Abhishek's understated performance as the calm, emotionally mature Robbie stood in poignant contrast to Vicky Kaushal's impulsive and chaotic DJ Sandz.
The film's love triangle remains one of Kashyap's most nuanced storytelling feats.
While reflecting on his filmmaking journey in a recent chat with Bollywood Hungama, Kashyap made a surprising revelation—he has five feature films that are yet to see the light of day. 'There are five feature films that are still not released. Out of which two films are going to be released; hopefully the third one also,' he shared. Calling himself 'the most unreleased filmmaker in the country,' Kashyap's candid admission highlights the many hurdles he has faced despite his reputation as one of Indian cinema's most daring voices.
Take a look:
But Anurag isn't just about the director's chair—he's equally comfortable in front of the camera. The Black Friday director has taken on a slew of acting roles over the years, ranging from cameos to full-fledged characters, many of which showcased his knack for portraying gritty, morally grey figures. His acting credits include appearances in No Smoking, Dev D, Gulaal, Soundtrack, Happy New Year, and I Am, along with significant roles in Akira, Imaikkaa Nodigal, Maharaja, and Bad Cop.
Now, the multifaceted filmmaker-actor is set to return to the screen in a compelling new avatar with Dacoit: A Love Story, a pan-India action drama that pairs him with
Adivi Sesh
and
Mrunal Thakur
. Anurag will be seen playing a sharp, no-nonsense police inspector—a devoted Ayyappa follower and an unwavering crusader against corruption. Known for his biting wit and intellectual firepower, his character promises to bring a unique flavor to this high-octane narrative.
With Dacoit already generating buzz for its powerful cast and gripping storyline, fans can expect yet another intense cinematic experience—this time with Anurag Kashyap not just behind the lens, but in the thick of the action.

‘What wrong is Deepika demanding?': Kajol and Rani did 8-hour shifts too, says director Siddharth P. Malhotra as Bollywood debate heats up
Agencies Deepika Padukone's reported exit from Spirit over her request for an eight-hour workday has reignited debate on humane work hours in Indian cinema. Director Siddharth P Malhotra defended her stance, citing past examples like Rani Mukerji and Kajol who also worked limited shifts post-motherhood. Last month, reports broke that Deepika Padukone had stepped away from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's much-anticipated Telugu cop drama Spirit . The reason? Her request for an eight-hour workday. The demand, made just eight months after the birth of her daughter Dua Padukone, sparked debate across the industry and social media, with many questioning whether actors should dictate such terms in big-budget productions. Now, director Siddharth P Malhotra has come out in her support, pointing out that such working conditions are not only reasonable but have long existed in the industry. Speaking to IANS, Malhotra recalled wrapping his 2018 film Hichki —starring Rani Mukerji—in just 28 eight-hour shifts. The film, produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films, marked Rani's return to the screen after giving birth to her daughter Adira in 2015. 'For 14 months, I have been there in front of her face. So I kept asking myself, 'Is it going to be worth it?'' Rani had shared in a past interview, reflecting on her emotional struggle as a new mother rejoining work. But Malhotra confirmed the working hours were kept tight and clear. 'She's asking for family time, what wrong is she demanding?' he asked bluntly. 'People are just gaining publicity in the name of Deepika Padukone.' Malhotra also pointed to his debut film We Are Family (2010), in which lead actor Kajol, a mother herself at the time, insisted on fixed working hours. 'When I shot with Kajol in 2010, she used to do eight-hour shifts. She made it very clear she'd either come from 10 am to 6 pm or 7 am to 2 pm,' he said, underscoring that the practice predates the current noise around Deepika's decision. Kajol recently echoed this sentiment to PTI, stating, 'I didn't work for 20 or 30 hours. I was always very clear that we would work a certain amount only, and my mom (veteran actor Tanuja) also backed me up big time on it.' Malhotra believes that directors should match their production plans with the availability of their actors—especially when such conditions are set transparently from the outset. 'If Deepika Padukone has made these conditions clear right from the start, then the director shouldn't work with her if it doesn't suit them,' he said. 'If I need an actor and am confident I can finish the film within those working hours, I'd work with them even for six hours a day.' He added that if Vanga's vision for Spirit required longer working hours, he was within his rights to recast. And that's exactly what has happened: Vanga has now brought Animal star Triptii Dimri on board as the lead opposite Prabhas in the film. While the industry is known for grueling shifts and punishing timelines, the conversation sparked by Padukone's stance opens a new chapter—one that addresses work-life balance, especially for women returning to work post-motherhood.

A recently resurfaced video from Kapil's show features him narrating the story to veteran actresses Zeenat Aman and Poonam Dhillon. During the episode, Kapil told Zeenat Aman, 'It was in 2003 or 2004. I was in Delhi. My father was undergoing treatment there. One of my friends told me to come to the wedding function quickly saying, 'There are a lot of people here'. There was a wedding in Maurya in Delhi. Vandana Luthra, the daughter of the family who are into cosmetic business'. He further mentioned, as he pointed towards the actress, 'You went there. I didn't even understand, I was studying in college, and was very naive. I had a plate in my hand. I wanted to take a photo. Zeenat asked me to keep the plate down. The senior actress took to her Instagram, and shared a clip from her film 'Hum Kisise Kum Naheen'. The actress narrated the story behind her only scene in the film. She also penned a long in the caption, as she wrote, 'Oh, you're a Hindi cinema buff but you've never heard this song? That, my dear, is probably because you are very young. Play it for your parents, and they'll immediately be able to place it. Here's the truth, of all the men I worked with from the Kapoor khandan, Rishi and I interacted the least both socially and professionally. In fact, in all the years that our careers overlapped, we only featured together in this one song. That too because Director Nasir Hussain had me pinned as a bit of a lucky talisman that year. Why? Because 'Yaadon ki Baaraat', his previous film in which I had starred, had been a blockbuster hit'.
