Malaysian jailed 6 weeks for attempting to grab officers' guns at Woodlands
SINGAPORE: A 28-year-old Malaysian man has been sentenced to six weeks in jail for attempting to grab the weapon of two auxiliary police officers at the Woodlands Checkpoint.
According to a report by Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao yesterday, the incident occurred about 3.50pm when the man, identified as Fazli, approached an auxiliary police officer stationed at the checkpoint's bus area.
Fazli, who was an SMRT bus driver at the time, initially attempted to communicate in Malay, which the officer did not understand.
He then asked in English, "Does your gun have bullets?" before reaching for the officer's weapon.
The officer used both hands to protect the gun, preventing Fazli from touching it.
The officer called for assistance and a second auxiliary police officer arrived to help.
Fazli attempted to reach for the second officer's weapon.
The incident was captured on security camera footage.
Fazli was arrested and charged with two counts of using criminal force to voluntarily obstruct a public servant from carrying out their duties.
He pleaded guilty to one of the charges on Monday, while the second charge was taken into consideration during sentencing.
Under Singapore's Penal Code, the offence carries a maximum sentence of six months in jail, a fine of up to S$2,500, or both.

On June 20, District Judge Lim Tse Haw said the man, 38, had breached a sacred trust between him and his pupil – for whom he was the Chinese language and form teacher. Sometime around 2019, the seven-year-old pupil approached the man to find out the name of a song he played in class earlier. As she approached the man, who was sitting near the front of the classroom, he reached out and touched her underneath her school skirt. They were alone at the front of the class, as the other pupils were queuing to go for recess. After three years, she decided to confide her experience to the school's vice-principal in April 2022. A police report was made. The judge said: 'Teachers are held in high regard by society. By virtue of the trust we (place) in them to impart knowledge and good moral values in our students, parents therefore entrust their children in the good hands of our teachers for these reasons.' He pointed out that the pupil in this case was just seven years old. There is a gag order imposed to protect her identity. 'Although the touch was fleeting and did not intrude into her private parts, there was skin on skin contact with her inner thigh under her skirt – a sensitive part of the female body.' The judge added: 'The psychological harm, which included suicidal thoughts and potential problems with interpersonal relationships later in life, could be prolonged.' The Ministry of Education previously told The Straits Times that the man was dismissed in April 2022, and that he is no longer teaching in any school. Miri armed robbery gang nabbed within 24 hours
KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested a group of armed robbers in less than 24 hours after a robbery at a house in Taman Viana, Jalan Bakam, Buletin TV3 reported. Miri district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said a team was immediately dispatched to the double-storey semi-detached house after receiving an emergency call via the 999 hotline. "However, by the time police arrived, the group had fled. "Based on public information and intelligence, we identified and arrested four suspects in less than 24 hours," he said in a statement today. The four suspects, arrested earlier today, include one Malaysian man and three foreign men, aged between 38 and 57. During the raid, police also seized various items believed to have been used in the crime, including a knife, a cutter, a mask, and the vehicle used by the group. They also confiscated jewellery, watches, identity documents, purses, and cash believed to belong to the victims. Farhan said the syndicate is believed to be involved in a string of armed robberies around Miri between 2024 and 2025. "All suspects have been remanded for seven days from June 20 to 27 to assist with further investigations," he said. He also reminded the public to stay vigilant and enhance the security of their homes by installing fences, grills, closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, and alarm systems.
