Netflix decided to come out of the gate swinging this week, after hosting its 'Tudum 2025 Live Event' over the weekend: a celebration of all the cool shit the streaming giant has cooking. While there were a few live music performances, and celebrity cameos, we're all actually interested in what the streaming brand is bringing us this year – and next.
Thankfully, it came with the goods. We got new trailers for a bunch of Netflix's biggest series, as well as release dates for several of its major projects—from the long-awaited Happy Gilmore 2, to a brand-new rendition of Frankenstein.
So let's not waste anymore time—here's all the big trailers and release date Netflix announced.
'Happy Gilmore 2' Launches July 25
Yep, everyone's favourite miscreant golfer is back on course. Netflix has given us our first proper look at the upcoming sequel this week, as well as dropping a release date bombshell: it's coming next month. Now set to release 25 July, 2025, Adam Sandler's Netflix-backed Happy Gilmore 2 looks every bit as irreverent as the original, if not a bit more formulaic.
Fans of the classic movie will be glad to see quite a few returning faces—including Shooter McGavin, played perfectly as always by Christopher McDonald, as well as Happy's happy wife Virginia Venit, played by Modern Family's Julie Bowen.
'One Piece': Season 2 is Dropping in 2026
If you haven't heard on One Piece yet, what rock have you been hiding under? What is arguably one of the most influential manga of all time, which was turned into one of the most successful anime of all time, is making the jump back into live action with the second season of Netflix's One Piece adaptation. That second season is coming in 2026, Netflix announced, which is good news to every Straw Hat out there.
And now we've got a good look at one of the series' most popular characters: Tony Tony Chopper, a sweet-loving reindeer that ate the human-human fruit and can speak and walk like a person. How fun! Check out the new trailer above.
'Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery' is Coming 12 December
Probably the thing on this list we're most excited about, we've finally been given a good look at Rian Johnson's third Knives Out film: Wake Up Dead Man—and we got a release date! Dropping 12 December 2025, Wake Up Dead Man brings Daniel Craig back as renowned investigator Benoit Blanc as he looks to solve another 'perfect' crime.
It seems Craig is one again joined by an absolute banger cast, with Josh Browlin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, and Glenn Close bringing some serious heat. If you haven't checked out either the original Knives Out, or its sequel Glass Onion, do it now.
Take a Look at 'Squid Game' Season 3, Dropping 27 June
After teasing that the incredibly popular Squid Game would finish with a third and final season, Netflix has given us our first look at the upcoming Season 3 with a trailer, and told us when we can expect to see the end of the game: June 27, 2025.
The series follows Gi-hun through his initial dealings with the games in Season 1, and his attempt to understand and destroy the games from the inside in Season 2, and following the devastating cliffhanger ending of last season (no spoilers just yet), Season 3 is sure to kick off with a bang.
'Stranger Things' Season 5 Announces Staggered Release
If you've been waited with bated breath for the end of Stranger Things, we finally, finally know when we're going to get to see what happens to the people of Hawkins—but, it's not as simple as a single release date.
No, instead, we're going to get the first four episodes on 26 November, 2025, three more episodes on 25 December, 2025, and the final episode on 31 December, 2025. Yes, Christmas and New Years are Stranger Things Holidays this year.
As for what you can expect from the end of this absolutely epic saga? Well, check out the new trailer above.
Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein Teaser
Hell yes. A new rendition of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, directed by Guillermo del Toro, starring Oscar Issac as the young scientist himself? What could be better? Well, it's coming this November.
The official teaser we got is dripping with gothic charm, and looks absolutely fantastic. del Toro's characteristic style is on full display, and we honestly can't wait to see what crazy stuff he conjures later this year. I just really want him to make that At the Mountains of Madness movie he keeps talking about.
An Extended First Look at 'Wednesday' Season 2, coming 6 August
And finally, we got our first proper look at the highly anticipated second season of Wednesday. In fact, we got the first six minutes of the first episode, and the reveal that part 1 of the series will drop on 6 August, while part 2 will come on 3 September. Netflix really loves breaking their releases up, huh.
In typical Wednesday fashion, she's taking her time tracking down her favourite childhood serial killer, relishing every minute of it. Somehow the killer is Haley Joel Osment, which actually makes it even better, and we now know Lady Gaga will be playing some role in the new season. We don't get much in the way of hints as to what season 2 will be about, but it's definitely going for a darker vibe.

Explicit new Netflix series Olympo shocks viewers
A steamy new Netflix drama series set in a sports academy is leaving viewers shocked with its frequent graphic sex scenes. Olympo is a Spanish drama series set at the fictional Pirineos Center of High Performance, an elite training school for the most promising young athletes in Spain. With an MA15+ rating for 'strong sex scenes,' there's not a whole lot of sport going on. Since the series dropped in full on the streamer on Friday, social media has lit up with viewers either shocked or delighted that the show is so racy. 'Episode 1 of #OlympoNetflix and everyone is just f**king,' read one viewer's blunt tweet. Another complained the sex scenes were 'way too intense' for a teen drama (albeit one with a cast who are mostly well into their 20s). Others clearly embraced the raunch: Searching the #OlympoNetflix hashtag on X brings up dozens of clips of the show's most explicit scenes (click if you dare). While Olympo's racier aspects have been capturing viewer attention, critics have been less kind. Decider 's verdict was that prospective viewers should 'skip it,' writing that the show 'needs to tighten up its plotting in order for it to be more than just scenes of perfect bodies in motion, whether that motion is athletic or sexual.' LeisureByte 's reviewer dubbed the series 'a fast-paced watch with terrible characters,' complaining that 'not one of them is likeable or rational, which makes this a bit tedious. You want to find one person who is not completely morally bankrupt or stupid, but it's one or the other with this lot.' Philedelphia Gay News noted that while the focus is on the uniformly good-looking cast – 'scenes shot in slow-motion or in close-up fetishise the musculature of the actors' – it can't distract from the fact that 'the storylines are a bit thin.' The eight-part series builds to a dramatic climax, but viewers keen for more will have to wait – Netflix hasn't yet renewed Olympo for a second season.

Each week, we try to show off some things that have brought us some joy in the hopes it'll help you find your own, and this week we're showcasing some delicious whiskey, as well as a new season of one of our favourite shows. Dark Lark | Image: Scott Purcell / Man of Many 2025 Dark Lark Limited Edition Release Scott Purcell – Co-Founder I just got back from Dark Mofo in Tassie this Wednesday and last Thursday was lucky enough to head out Lark's Pontville Distillery. Lark has now moved nearly all of it's flagship production from its previous Cambridge facility out to Pontville and it's definitely a site to behold and worth a visit if you're down in Hobart. Full of rich history (literally with buildings built in the early 1800's) and even better stories over a dram, there's plenty to discover. As part of the Dark Mofo festival, Lark now releases a limited edition Dark Lark bottle each year, and the 2025 release is one of their sexiest and best looking bottles yet. The design is inspired by the fiery lichen-lit shores of the Bay of Fires in Tasmania and the label even glows in the dark! It was also awarded Gold at the 2025 World Spirits Competition in San Francisco, one of the most respected and competitive global stages for spirits worldwide. While it wasn't crafted at Pontville (instead at their Bothwell Distillery) there is plenty on offer for whisky fans and you won't be disappointed with hints of ripe paypaya, maple-glazed almonds and juicy berry compote. For that, I think Couple's Therapy is a fantastic show – the latest season is streaming on SBS On Demand now, and I can't recommend it enough. The show gives you a really unique insight into the process behind therapy, with New York-based psychologist Dr. Orna Guralnik taking you into her practice, showcasing sessions with struggling couples, as well as her supervision sessions with other therapists between. It's really fascinating stuff, and as you watch you'll start to find yourself empathising with her clients' problems, as well as root for them to figure out how to make it through whatever is causing them distress. It does dive into some deeply uncomfortable territory—it's showcasing people's therapy sessions, after all—but it's a great reminder that everyone goes through tough times, and that surrounding yourself with good, supportive people is almost always the answer. The team behind Top Gun takes on F1 in this year's biggest blockbuster
Sitting in a hotel in 2023, Damson Idris had just landed the most important role of his life. Legendary producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Joe Kosinski, the team who took over the box office (OK, and the world) with Top Gun: Maverick, wanted Idris for their high-stakes Formula 1 blockbuster, F1. Idris would play Joshua Pearce, a young gun rookie modelled on Lewis Hamilton (also a producer on the film), and Brad Pitt would play his team-mate and rival, Sonny Hayes, a grizzled veteran who returns to the sport to partner Pearce on the fictional APXGP team. As far as big breaks go, they don't come much bigger than this. So you'd imagine Idris' mind might be racing faster than the F1 car he didn't know how to drive (but would soon master). 'Not really,' deadpans Idris, speaking to me from South Africa, where he is shooting his next film. 'I was just consumed by one thought: I need to be faster than Brad Pitt.' Fast-forward a year or so, and after hundreds of hours on the practice circuit, seven months of training, more than a few crashes, several headaches, and roughly eight kilos lost purely from sweating on set, Idris learned a valuable lesson. 'Brad Pitt is annoyingly good at everything,' he laughs. 'And I mean everything: acting, racing, even walking. The way he walks on screen is second to none.' I mention that one of my favourite YouTube clips is a super cut of Brad Pitt eating in all his different films (it's called 15 Minutes of Brad Pitt Eating, and well worth a watch). 'Oh, don't worry, I've seen it,' says Idris. 'I attempted eating in one scene during F1, and they scrapped it, and you know what? Good on them. I'm with the greatest on-screen eater of all time. Come on, man, what were you thinking?' 'What were you thinking?' is a question I've been meaning to ask director Joseph Kosinski. In 2022, he helped 'save cinema' (Spielberg's words, not mine) with Top Gun: Maverick, a sweeping sequel to the 1986 original that was critically and commercially celebrated, grossing $1.496 billion worldwide at the box office. Such a feat warrants time off. A mini-break. Honestly, Joe, what were you thinking? 'Well, as with so many people, during the pandemic, I became obsessed with Drive to Survive on Netflix,' says Kosinski. 'I went to school for mechanical engineering and aerospace, so the way these cars work is fascinating to me, and then factor in the personalities and team dynamics, it's rich with story.' Pitt and Bruckheimer shared Kosinski's obsession, and they all agreed that if they were going to make a racing film, it had to look real. The first step was getting Formula 1 on board as an official partner on the film, with a view to embedding production in real Grand Prix races worldwide. Having seen F1's popularity surge following Netflix's Drive to Survive, CEO Stefano Domenicali was open to the idea but harboured concerns about how the sport would come across. Thankfully, super producer Jerry Bruckheimer is no stranger to sweet-talking nervy organisations. 'When I did the first Top Gun, the navy was worried about how they'd be portrayed, so Tom Cruise and I went to the US Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego to convince them it would be a good thing, and instead the admiral threw us off the base,' laughs Bruckheimer. 'So Tom went to Washington and met with the Secretary of the Navy at the time, and he understood what a movie could do for recruitment. We got to shoot Top Gun, and after it came out, naval recruitment went up 500%. Oh, and the other admiral was fired.' Bruckheimer's Top Gun -inspired pitch was enough to convince Domenicali, and the group secured Formula 1 as an official partner, allowing them to film at 14 Grand Prix events. Current F1 drivers, including our very own Oscar Piastri, agreed to appear. The next hurdle was figuring out how to bring the audience inside the chaos of a machine that can reach a top speed of 374.97 km/h. 'Cameras,' says Kosinski, perking up. 'And lots of them.' He's not lying. To ensure authenticity, the film's team, in collaboration with Mercedes-AMG and Formula 1 team engineers, built six F2 cars, which were then customised to resemble modern F1 cars. Each car came affixed with four IMAX-certified cameras in 15 possible positions, plus up to six additional cameras inside the car's cockpit. 'We worked closely with Sony, who created the cameras for Top Gun, to create a smaller version that would allow us to swivel between the driver and the track.' Kosinski is a self-described 'attention to detail fanatic,' meaning F1 would always look the part. However, few people know how it feels to race—the sounds, smells, noise, fury, joy, and heartbreak. Enter Lewis Hamilton. With seven World Drivers' Championship titles, Hamilton is the most successful F1 driver of all time (tied with Michael Schumacher), a driving prodigy who holds the records for most wins (105), pole positions (104), and podium finishes (202). He also happened to be the only driver Kosinski knew. 'We talked about casting him in Top Gun: Maverick; he's friends with Tom [Cruise]. We couldn't make it happen, but through that conversation, I had Lewis' email, so I asked for help, and straight away, he was on board,' says Kosinski. According to Bruckheimer, Hamilton wasn't shy of critiquing the film's inaccuracies during production. 'We were filming in Silverstone, where they host the British Grand Prix, and in turn three, Lewis could hear that we were in the wrong gear,' he says. 'Brad was in third gear, and you take that turn in second gear; not many people in the world would know that.' Aside from gear changes, Hamilton's insight as the first black driver to compete in the F1 proved invaluable to Idris. 'The beauty of this movie is that Lewis exists, and the barriers that he's broken down means Joshua Pearce can exist on screen too,' says Idris. 'We spoke about what it means to be an advocate without seeking out that label, so I modelled Joshua on Lewis.' On paper, F1 is the kind of film destined for success. A high-octane blockbuster based on a hugely popular sport featuring an all-star cast on screen and Hollywood heavyweights behind the scenes. However, in an increasingly competitive marketplace, films still need to be sold to audiences, which might be the one thing Brad Pitt isn't good at. Earlier this year, Bruckheimer attended Liberty Media's (the company that owns Formula One) investor day in New York. He discussed Pitt's reluctance to self-promote there, telling the crowd, 'He doesn't like to do press.' This approach is at odds with Bruckheimer's other most recent A-list collaborator, Tom Cruise, a famously shrewd marketing machine who boosts the profile of his films with attention-grabbing stunts and endless global press tours. However, with a reported budget of $463 million, Bruckheimer requires Pitt in full salesman mode ahead of the film's release. 'Brad has told me he loves the movie and wants to go out and support it, so he'll join us on the world tour.' As for Idris, he seems to be channelling the rookie energy of F1 's Joshua Pearce, all wide-eyed enthusiasm accompanied by mild disbelief that any of this is happening. 'To be talking about working with Brad Pitt on a Formula One movie still blows my mind,' he laughs. On the day we speak, it's announced that he will play jazz legend Miles Davis in the upcoming film Miles & Juliette. The movie will explore Davis's romance with French singer Juliette Gréco during his 1949 trip to Paris. Anamaria Vartolomei will portray Gréco, and the film is produced by Mick Jagger's company, Jagged Films. 'There are so many interesting icons out there that I want to pay homage to, and Miles was at the top of my list,' says Idris. 'This is my dream job, and I can't wait to stretch myself, show my range and learn the trumpet!'
