File on GSOC investigation into fatal hit and run with DPP

The 44 year old was walking home and crossing the road near his home at the Highlands, Drogheda on St Patrick's night, 2024 when he was knocked down. He died shortly afterwards at the scene.
His death caused great anger and heartbreak in the locality.
The car involved was later identified and an off duty Garda is believed to have been driving the vehicle.
One young member was subsequently suspended and returned to his native county.
A full scale GSOC investigation was launched and several people including other Gardai were questioned.
One member was formally arrested and interviewed.
GSOC confirmed that its investigation is complete and the file is with the DPP.
It is now waiting on a decision on what charges are to be brought against those involved.
Niall MacEneaney played hurling for the Wolfe Tones and Mattock Rangers during his career.
During his time as manager he won the Louth senior hurling championship with Termonfeckin in 2022 and 2023. He is survived by his wife Grace and his parents.
The family have not made any public comment on the case.

There were tearful scenes today at the funeral of a tragic dad who died in a serious road traffic incident involving an e-scooter. Mourners gathered at Saint Josephs Church, Poppintree, Dublin to pay their respects to Jack Goss, who died from his injuries a day after the accident on Father's Day last Sunday. Jack was described as a "kind hearted dad" who brought so much joy and love to his family. His heartbroken family said in Jack's death notice that 'He brought to their lives so much love, kindness and joy.' 'Jack's incredible spirit and big heart will forever be missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, loved ones and his community whom he loved. 'Jack's infectious spirit, fun and love touched so many. His legacy lives on in his precious baby girl and all who loved him.' Mourners were invited to make donations in lieu of flowers to the local Aisling Project in Poppintree and Ballymun who educate and provide life skills to young people. Meanwhile, tributes continue to be paid to Jack with one mourner writing in the condolence section on 'My heart broke to hear the awful news about Jack. Male pedestrian (60s) dies after being hit by tractor in Co Clare
A man in his 60s has died after he was hit by a tractor on the L7006 at Kilmurry, Sixmilebridge in Co Clare. Gardaí and emergency services responded to the crash which occurred shortly after 10.15am today. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been transferred to University Hospital Limerickand a postmortem will take place in due course. The coroner has been informed and an inquest is expected to take place at a later date. The road is currently closed to facilitate a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. Road users with any camera footage who were travelling in the area between 10am and 10.15am today are asked to make it available to gardaí. Boy in serious condition in hospital after being knocked down
A young boy was left in a serious condition in hospital after he was struck by a car in Co Donegal last night. The child was walking in the village of Ramelton when he was struck by a car on the R245 road to Letterkenny at around 6pm. The emergency services rushed to the scene and the boy was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital for immediate treatment. The boy's condition this morning is not yet known. There is a large volume of traffic in Co Donegal this weekend for the Donegal International Rally which is taking place over three days from Friday to Sunday. However, it is not understood that this incident was directly related to the rally event itself. A Garda spokesperson confirmed a child was knocked down last night. "Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a road traffic collision in Ramelton Co. Donegal, which occurred yesterday evening, Friday 20th June 2025," the spokesperson said. "The collision involved a car and a pedestrian at approximately 6:00pm on the R245 Letterkenny Road. "The pedestrian, a male juvenile child, was taken from the scene to Letterkenny University Hospital for treatment."
