Bafana tame Mambas in international friendly
JOHANNESBURG - Bafana Bafana wrapped up the Fifa international week with a comfortable victory over Mozambique.
The home side wasted several excellent goal-scoring opportunities in a one-sided encounter at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane last night.
It took until the second half before they broke the deadlock.
Sinoxolo Kwayiba headed home the opening goal before substitute Ashley Cupido added an emphatic second goal to secure a deserved triumph over the Mambas.
It's a morale-boosting result for Hugo Broos and Co ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, after they were held to a stalemate by Tanzania at the same venue last Friday.

'He shots or takes defender on': Chiefs legend praise Pirates star
Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo has hailed Orlando Pirates winger Mohau Nkota following his impressive breakout season. The 20-year-old forward scored seven goals and added five assists in 39 matches across all competitions last season. His form has earned him a Bafana Bafana call-up earlier this month where he featured against Mozambique. Khumalo had praised Nkota's decision making especially when he is attacking with the ball. The Chiefs legend felt the Pirates winger was positive whenever he had to ball and would either shot or take on a defender. 'Listen. This boy, and every ball that he gets, it's whether he takes a shot or he takes a defender on,' Khumalo said, as per KickOff . 'He (Nkota) has never taken the ball backwards; he has never played anything backwards,' he added. 'He is always positive. His game is not negative. In every touch that he had, he was creating a final pass, taking on a player, or taking a shot.' The former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana midfielder has also been impressed with another Orlando Pirates youngster. Khumalo has been a big fan of Relebohile Mofokeng since he made his debut for the Buccaneers two years ago. Nkota and Mofokeng have been a joy to watch for Pirates on the wings under Jose Riveiro. With Nkota already established, it remains to be seen how he will improve as a player next season. Orlando Pirates news: Rulani, Moremi, Kwayiba, Tau
Orlando Pirates are reportedly looking to bring back Rulani Mokwena as their head coach next season. The 38-year-old parted ways with Wydad Casablanca in May and is currently a free agent. With the departure of Jose Riveiro, the Buccaneers are in search of a new coach before their pre-season training resumes. According to iDiski Times , talks between Mokwena and Pirates have reached an advanced stage, but 'some finer details still need to be ironed out'. The publication said that Rulani wanted Michael Loftman as his assistant coach, however Orlando Pirates were keen on keeping Mandla Ncikazi as part of the technical team. The Buccaneers have already released four players since the conclusion of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season. Although they are yet to make any announcement, it is believed that Sinoxolo Kwayiba will be a Bucs player next season. The Bafana Bafana midfielder did indicate that he would love to leave Chippa United for a big club. 'Let's hope [that I'll join a big club], I have been praying and I'm happy with my performance for Bafana Bafana,' Kwayiba said during the COSAFA Cup. 'I want to do more, and I hope the move is going to happen. So I'm hoping to play for a big team and then move overseas. That's my dream, and it's going to happen. 'I won't mention any name of the team for now, but I want to play for one of the big three,' he added. Another player linked with Orlando Pirates is Tshepang Moremi. The talented winger recently left AmaZulu but the Buccaneers are yet to confirm if they indeed signed the player. Tau is now a free agent having left Qatar after a short stint. He did admit that he would like to play for Orlando Pirates or any of the big teams if the right offer comes. With Rulani potentially joining the Buccaneers, maybe Tau might be tempted. Where is former Pirates midfielder Teko 'The General' Modise now?
Teko Modise remains one of the most talented local players who never played overseas. At the peak of his career, he earned the nickname 'The General' for his ability to direct play and dictate the tempo of the match. Modise began his career at Ria Stars before joining City Pillars, where he spent four years. His breakthrough came in 2006 when he joined SuperSport United. Although he only spent one season with Matsatsantsa, The General scored 10 goals in 33 appearances, which prompted Orlando Pirates to come knocking. In a recent interview, Teko Modise revealed that he was a Kaizer Chiefs fan growing up and always wanted to play for the club. In 2007, he had an opportunity to join his boyhood club, but the former Bafana Bafana midfielder chose to join rivals Pirates instead. He expressed a desire to play for Chiefs but was put off by how the club approached him. Modise became a star at Pirates and won two PSL Footballer of the Year awards with the Soweto giants. He played some of his best football in black and white, which earned him a call-up to the national team. From 2007 onwards, The General became a regular for Bafana Bafana, earning 66 caps and scoring 10 goals. After falling out with then-Pirates coach Ruud Krol, Modise left for Mamelodi Sundowns in 2011. At Sundowns, he revived his career and evolved his playing style. No longer the star player, his experience helped the club win the 2016 CAF Champions League title. A year later, Teko Modise joined Cape Town City, where he played for two years before retiring. At the peak of his powers, everyone wanted a piece of Teko Modise. He achieved more success at Sundowns but played his best football at Pirates between 2007 and 2010. As for Teko Modise now, he is a brand ambassador for Mamelodi Sundowns, alongside Tiyanda Mabunda. He is also a pundit for S uperSport TV .
