The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the schedule and venues for New Zealand's white-ball tour of India, set to take place in January 2026.
The tour will feature three ODIs followed by five T20Is, marking the first bilateral series between the two sides since India's win over New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final earlier this year.
Vadodara will mark its return to the men's international cricketing map after more than 15 years, with the city set to host the opening ODI on January 11 at the newly built Kotambi Stadium.
The venue previously hosted three Women's ODIs between India and West Indies in December 2024 and six matches during the 2025 Women's Premier League (WPL).
Interestingly, New Zealand also featured in Vadodara's last men's international match - an ODI at Reliance Stadium in December 2010.
In that game, current India head coach Gautam Gambhir was named Player of the Match for his century, while Virat Kohli, who has since retired from T20Is and Tests but continues to play ODIs, scored an unbeaten 63.
Following the series opener in Vadodara, the teams will remain in Gujarat for the second ODI in Rajkot on January 14, before the series concludes with the third ODI in Indore on January 18.
The tour will then transition to the T20I leg, starting with matches in Nagpur (January 21) and Raipur (January 23).
The final leg of the tour will take place in eastern and southern India, with Guwahati (January 25), Visakhapatnam (January 28), and Thiruvananthapuram (January 31) hosting the third, fourth and fifth T20Is respectively.
These five T20Is are likely to be India's final preparation before they begin their campaign at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, which they are co-hosting with Sri Lanka.
The Men in Blue will enter the tournament as defending champions, having won the 2024 edition in the West Indies and the USA.
New Zealand, on the other hand, are scheduled to play a three-match T20I series against Afghanistan immediately after their India tour concludes.

NZ outplay Pak to win Nations Cup

A view of the New Zealand versus Pakistan hockey final of the FIH Nations Cup in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday. NZ proved much superior to Pak on the day, winning 6-2. PHOTO: AFP New Zealand emerged victorious in the final of the FIH Nations Cup by 6-2 on Saturday, defeating Pakistan to secure the coveted title and a place in the next season of the FIH Pro League. New Zealand made a spirited start to the summit clash as they found the back of the net twice but were disallowed on both occasions. They eventually struck their first goal in the sixth minute as Scott Coslett successfully converted the penalty corner. New Zealand doubled their lead in the last minute of the first quarter, courtesy of a precise field goal by Sam Hiha. They were even more ruthless in the subsequent quarter as they netted their third through Dylan Thomas within two minutes. Sean Findlay scored a sensational field goal in the next minute, putting New Zealand in complete control, while Scott Boyde made it 5-0 with just under four minutes to the halftime. Pakistan eventually scored their first goal in the fifth minute of the third quarter when Zikriya Hayat breached New Zealand's defence to smash the ball at the back of the net. The green shirts got five penalty corners in the penultimate quarter but failed to convert, meaning the scoreline remained intact at 5-1. The final quarter saw both teams going hard at each other and it appeared that the scoreline would remain intact but New Zealand were awarded a penalty corner, which Coslett converted comprehensively. Pakistan also scored in the next minute with Sufyan Khan converting a penalty corner but it was far from enough to pull Pakistan back as New Zealand registered a thumping 6-2 victory. The victory propelled New Zealand to the FIH Pro League. Pak hockey captain wants Asia Cup shifted from India Pakistan hockey captain Imad Shakeel Butt has raised serious concerns about the upcoming 2025 Men's Hockey Asia Cup, calling on the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) to shift the event away from India due to ongoing political tensions between the two countries. The tournament, scheduled to be held from August 27 to September 7, 2025, in Rajgir, Bihar, serves as a direct qualifier for the 2026 Hockey World Cup and, for Pakistan, it's a vital opportunity to secure a spot on global hockey's biggest stage. But the captain fears the political climate could affect fair participation. "The Asia Cup is crucial for us. Given the current political situation, we strongly believe the venue should be reconsidered to ensure fair participation and a neutral environment," said Imad Butt while addressing the media on Wednesday. His statement comes amid growing uncertainty over whether Pakistan will even be granted entry into India for the tournament. Reports, though not officially confirmed, have suggested that Indian authorities may delay or deny visas to the Pakistani team, citing security reasons. The 2025 Hockey Asia Cup is not the only sporting event expected to come under scrutiny due to Pakistan-India tensions. The 2025 Cricket Asia Cup is also under a cloud, while the Women's ODI World Cup is expected to carry high tensions as it is set to take place in India as well. Pakistan and India share an intense rivalry in hockey, but off-field politics have frequently cast a shadow on their matchups. With just a few months to go before the Asia Cup, questions remain about whether the tournament can go ahead smoothly if hosted in India — particularly if Pakistan's participation is in doubt. For now, all eyes are on the Asian Hockey Federation, as Pakistan awaits a decision that could impact their road to the 2026 World Cup.

Lehecka stuns Draper to reach Queen's final

Jack Draper hits a shot as he defeated Carlos Alcaraz in three sets during his semifinal match at the BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Well Tennis Garden. PHOTO: JAYNE KAMINE-ONCEA-IMAGN Czech world number 30 Jiri Lehecka stunned Britain's Jack Draper to reach the Queen's Club final with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 victory on Saturday. Lehecka blasted 36 winners and hit 16 aces to end Draper's bid for a maiden final appearance at the Wimbledon warm-up event in west London. The 23-year-old will face French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz or Spanish veteran Roberto Bautista Agut in Sunday's final. "It means a lot. You don't meet a player like Jack every day, he's an amazing competitor," Lehecka said. "It's not easy to use my serve (on grass) but I've been working on it for the last few weeks. I'm happy with it." Draper was hoping to become the first British singles champion at Queen's since five-time winner Andy Murray's most recent victory in 2016. After booking his spot in the semi-finals Draper revealed he had held the Queen's trophy as a child around 12 years ago. But Draper, ranked sixth in the world, will have to wait at least another year to get his hands back on the silverware after producing an unusually error-strewn display in sweltering conditions. Lehecka had already ended the hopes of one Briton at Queen's after beating Jacob Fearnley in the quarter-finals on Friday. The 23-year-old also defeated world number 12 Alex de Minaur in his opening match of the tournament, but knocking out Draper was his biggest scalp yet. Draper's careless double-fault gifted Lehecka a break in the opening game of the first set. The ice-cool Lehecka ignored the searing temperatures as he cruised through the rest of the set. Draper needed to apply pressure on Lehecka to get back in the match and he did exactly that in the fourth game of the second set. Even then, Lehecka staved off four break points and repelled another in the sixth. But Draper kept slugging away from the baseline and finally landed a big blow with a winner down the line on set point. Rock legend and avid tennis fan Jon Bon Jovi, watching in the stands, rose from his seat to salute Draper's gritty fightback. AFP

BD take control after dramatic turn in Galle Test

Bangladesh's Mushfiqur Rahim (R) and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto run between the wickets on the fourth day of the first Test against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Cricket Stadium on Friday. PHOTO: AFP What seemed like a batting paradise for the first three days took a dramatic turn after the lunch break on day four, catching even Bangladesh's pace bowling coach Shaun Tait by surprise. The once-flat Galle wicket suddenly began to challenge batters, with seven wickets falling in the final two sessions. If the pitch and weather conditions remain unchanged, an exciting finish is on the cards on the final day. Bangladesh, holding a 10-run lead going into their second innings, reached 177 for 3 by stumps on day four, stretching their overall lead to 187 runs. The third session saw visible signs of deterioration, with dust coming off the surface and the batters facing significant challenges. Despite the tougher conditions, half-centuries from Shadman Islam and Najmul Hossain Shanto helped put Bangladesh in a strong position. The pair added 68 runs for the third wicket, after which Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim began building another significant partnership, putting on an unbeaten 49 runs for the fourth wicket. Shanto remained not out on 56, while Mushfiqur was unbeaten on 20. Earlier in the innings, opener Anamul Haque Bijoy once again failed to deliver, scoring just 4 off 14 balls after a duck in the first innings. His fellow opener, Shadman, added 36 runs with Mominul Haque for the second wicket. Mominul, like in the first innings, got settled before throwing his wicket away with a sweep shot, managing 14 off 40 deliveries. Shadman, who looked in good touch, reached his sixth Test fifty and went on to score 76 off 126 balls with seven boundaries before getting out. Shanto continued the momentum and brought up his sixth Test half-century as well. Among the Sri Lankan bowlers, Prabath Jayasuriya, Tarindu Ratnayake, and Milan Ratnayake claimed one wicket each. Earlier in the day, Sri Lanka were firmly in the lead and looked poised to overtake Bangladesh's first-innings total with ease. Resuming the morning session on 465 for 6, with Kamindu Mendis and Milan Ratnayake at the crease, they reached the break with their advantage intact. However, a post-lunch collapse saw them lose their last four wickets for just 20 runs, getting bowled out for 485—falling short by 10 runs. Off-spinner Nayeem Hasan was the star for Bangladesh, picking up five wickets.
