Two new town councils established in Jalan Kayu and Punggol
SINGAPORE: Two new town councils have been established in Jalan Kayu and Punggol following the conclusion of the 2025 General Election.
This brings the total number of town councils to 19, the Ministry of National Development (MND) said in a press release on Friday (May 30).
Twelve town councils have been reconstituted due to changes in electoral boundaries, which resulted in some areas being transferred between towns, MND added. Five remain unchanged.
Under the Town Councils Act, elected MPs are to form a town for their own constituency or by grouping up to three constituencies together to form a town. Each town is to be managed by its own town council.
The new Jalan Kayu Town Council will comprise the Single Member Constituency won by labour chief Ng Chee Meng. He will chair the council.
Punggol Town Council also comprises only the Group Representation Constituency, which was won by a People's Action Party (PAP) team led by Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong.
Four town councils have been renamed.
Jurong-Clementi Town Council is now known as Jurong-Clementi-Bukit Batok Town Council. Marine Parade Town Council has been renamed Marine Parade-Braddell Heights Town Council.
Pasir Ris-Punggol Town Council will now be Pasir Ris-Changi Town Council, while West Coast Town Council is now West Coast-Jurong West Town Council.
The remaining eight reconstituted town councils are Aljunied-Hougang, Ang Mo Kio, Chua Chu Kang, East Coast, Holland-Bukit Panjang, Jalan Besar, Tampines and Tanjong Pagar Town Councils, and their names are unchanged.
Bishan-Toa Payoh, Marsiling-Yew Tee, Nee Soon, Sembawang and Sengkang Town Councils will continue with their names and town boundaries unchanged.
Town councils have up to 90 days to complete the handover and takeover of the management of the areas to be transferred.
This means the two new town councils and the 12 reconstituted town councils will take over the management of the transferred areas from Aug 1.
Town councils can also mutually agree to complete the handover and takeover before Aug 1. They will have to inform residents of this date.
"MND encourages all town councils to work together to ensure a smooth transition, so that the needs of residents can continue to be served," said the ministry.

On Monday, Mr Wong was welcomed at the Great Hall of the People, and will attend a dinner banquet hosted by Mr Li. The two last met in October 2024 on the sidelines of multilateral meetings. On this trip, Mr Wong will also meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and Chairman of the National People's Congress Zhao Leji.

Man shocked that chain's burger sets cost S$25-S$30, but others tell him it may be due to outlet location
SINGAPORE: A man took to social media to express his shock at seeing what he perceived as extraordinarily high prices for set meals at a popular burger chain. ' MOS Burger at One Fullerton, overcharging Singaporeans and taking advantage of the 'NDP (National Day Parade) celebration' to sell a meal at S$25 to S$30?' the netizen wrote in a post published on the popular COMPLAINT SINGAPORE Facebook group page on Saturday (Jun 21). In the post author's opinion, the fast food chain 'deserves to be boycotted' because it sells a 'normal fish burger' for S$8 when it costs much less than S$6. The post author posted a photo of MOS Burgers' combo meals, five of which are priced at S$25, and the other at S$30. The combo meals consist of a burger, fries, and nuggets, a peach popsicle, and a drink, with the Teriyaki Truffle Wagyu Burger carrying a S$30 price tag. MOS Burger has previously offered NDP specials. There is, however, a significant difference in price this year, given that in 2022, the chain's National Day Bundle, consisting of a Golden Double Ebi Burger, french fries with salted egg sauce, and durian ice cream, was sold for S$13.80. Excitement building up over 6-minute SG-JB RTS Link crossing
SINGAPORE: The official Facebook account for the Singapore-Johor Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link stoked excitement last week with a post about how quickly commuters will get from one point to another when the link is operational. 'Ever wondered how quickly you'll be crossing the border with the new RTS Link?' the post asked, and quickly answered with 'Just six minutes—that's all it takes for an end-to-end journey!' It added that during peak hours, it will run every 3.6 minutes. There is also enough parking for commuters, with 1,550 car bays & 1,000 motorcycle bays at Bukit Chagar. Finally, the RTS link will operate between 6:00 a.m. and 12:00 a.m. every day. The post ended with, 'We're not just building a railway—we're shaping the future of seamless cross-border connectivity.' The project is expected to begin operations in late 2026. In February, RTS Operations (RTSO) project director Zahrin Abdul Gani confirmed that track installation, signalling, and power supply systems are taking shape. The project was reportedly around 50% complete at the time, as key rail system works were progressing as planned. RTSO is a joint venture between Prasarana Malaysia and the Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (SMRT) Corporation. The track installation, which began in September last year at the Wadi Hana Depot in Johor Bahru, is expected to reach Singapore's Woodlands North station next month. The link will be an important part of the solution to the persistent traffic problems on the Causeway between Singapore and Malaysia, which is used by approximately 300,000 people daily. Travel time for commuters would be cut to just a few minutes on the Llink. It will connect Bukit Chagar station in Johor Bahru to Woodlands North station in Singapore and has the capacity to transport around 10,000 passengers each way. The project is budgeted to cost S$3.24 billion, with Malaysia taking on a 39% share of the costs while Singapore will shoulder the remaining 61%.
