'Let me be absolutely clear': Beauty and the Geek star forced to deny involvement in shocking murder case as identity of the alleged offender is suppressed
Former Beauty and the Geek winner Kiera Johnstone has been forced to publicly deny involvement in a shocking murder case after rampant speculation linked her to the crime.
The 26-year-old reality TV contestant, who won the 2021 series alongside her match Lachlan Mansell, took to social media on Sunday to clarify that she had not been arrested or charged, and was not involved "in any way".
Johnstone's statement comes after a 34-year-old woman, reportedly a former Beauty and the Geek contestant, was charged with murder when the body of a man was discovered in a Port Lincoln home last Thursday.
That legal restriction has allegedly fueled online speculation, some of which Johnstone now claims has implicated her.
In a lengthy message posted to her Instagram Stories, the reality TV star hit back at the rumours and urged people to "stop spreading misinformation".
"Hi everyone," her statement began.
"A former contestant from Beauty and the Geek has been charged with a very serious crime.
"Although no names have been released, for reasons beyond my understanding, there has been speculation online suggesting that I am involved."
Jonstone continued: "Let me be absolutely clear: I am not involved in any way. I have not been charged with a crime. I have literally never even had a parking fine."
"The allegations being discussed have nothing to do with me, and the fact that I even need to say this is incredibly upsetting."
Johnstone, who now runs a jewellery boutique in Melbourne and formerly worked as a public servant with the Victorian Government, said it was "deeply disturbing" to see people "spreading false information, making assumptions and sharing screenshots".
"I understand the internet can be quick to judge, but this kind of speculation is damaging and invasive and is something I take very seriously," she continued.
She ended the statement to her nearly 15,000 followers by saying: "As this has nothing to do with me, this will be the only time I speak on the matter."
While Johnstone and her on-screen partner Lachlan 'Lachy the Geek' Mansell have remained close since sharing the show's $100,000 prize four years ago, he has not commented publicly on the situation.
It's understood the woman charged faced court via video link from Port Lincoln Hospital on Friday under police guard.
She is currently being held under a mental health order and is expected to reappear in court in December.
At a press conference the same day, South Australia Police Assistant Commissioner Ian Parrott confirmed it was not yet known how long the man had been dead before his body was discovered.
He declined to comment on the nature of the man's injuries but said the incident was not random.
"We understand that the female who has been arrested and the deceased male both lived at this address," he said.
Neighbours said they were stunned by the incident, describing the woman as "really nice".
One resident said he attempted to put the fire out, but the house was "too smoky".
It's understood the couple had only recently moved in together.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Beauty and the Geek star denies false rumours about alleged murder case
Former Beauty and the Geek winner Kiera Johnstone has been forced to publicly deny rumours wrongly linking her to a grisly alleged murder. An ex-castmate of the reality program, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of killing her partner after a man's body was found inside a property in Port Lincoln, South Australia following a fire on Thursday. The accused was taken into custody at the scene but a court order has been placed over her identity and details of the case. Johnstone said the rumour mill had gone into overdrive and took to social media at the weekend to declare she had not been arrested last week and was 'not involved in any way' to the alleged crime. 'There has been speculation online suggesting that I am involved,' she shared on Instagram. 'Let me be absolutely clear: I have never been charged with a crime. 'The allegations being discussed have nothing to do with me, and the fact that I even need to say this is incredibly upsetting.' Johnstone — who won the 2021 series of Beauty and the Geek alongside her match Lachlan Mansell — said the online speculation was being fuelled by people 'sharing, gossiping, or silently watching', and asked for it to 'please stop' given it is 'a serious situation'. 'It's deeply disturbing to see people spreading false information, making assumptions and sharing screenshots,' the Melbourne jewellery boutique owner said. 'This kind of speculation is damaging and invasive and is something I take very seriously.' Police and forensics spent significant time at the Port Lincoln property after a man's body was discovered on Thursday afternoon. The accused — who also appeared on Beauty and the Geek, a program where socially awkward men share a mansion with attractive women — was arrested at the scene and taken to a local hospital, where she was charged with murder. 'I don't have any advice in relation to how long the man has been deceased. That will form part of our investigation,' SA Police State Operations Service Assistant Commissioner Ian Parrott said on Friday. 'I'm not going to comment on the injuries of the deceased.' The accused faced court on Friday via phone link and has been remanded in custody. She will appear in court again at a later date. Stream free on

Police called after creepy child bride Disneyland ‘wedding'
A British man has been arrested after he allegedly attempted to stage a fake wedding to a nine-year-old girl at Disneyland Paris. The 22-year-old man was reportedly acting as the 'groom' in the bizarre ceremony, which took place on Saturday morning in front of the famous Sleeping Beauty castle, according to The Sunday Times. Following his arrest, he told police that the spectacle was intended as a video for social media. Disneyland Paris staff became suspicious and alerted authorities after noticing the bride appeared alarmingly young. The presence of her family and a large number of guests also raised concerns. It was later revealed that many of the 'wedding guests' were hired actors who had been transported to the park and given minimal information about the nature of the event. When Seine-et-Marne Police arrived on the scene, they found the child dressed in a bridal dress and wearing four-inch heels that had been taped to her feet. The 'groom' was taken into custody, along with the girl's mother, a 41-year-old Ukrainian woman. Alexandre Verney, Assistant Prosecutor for the Seine-et-Marne region, confirmed that the young girl underwent a medical examination and was found to be unharmed. Mr Verney also confirmed that two Latvian nationals, aged 24 and 55, were arrested in connection with the strange incident. According to local reports, the 55-year-old Latvian told authorities he had been paid €12,000 (AU$21,550) to play the role of the bride's father but only learned the girl's age shortly before the event. The child's mother and the 55-year-old have since been released from police custody, while the British man and 24-year-old Latvian remain detained on suspicion of financial fraud. Authorities believe that Disneyland Paris was misled about the nature of the event, with the organiser assuming the identity of a Latvian national and using fake documents to secure permission to hold a private event at the park. A video obtained by a French news outlet reportedly shows around 100 guests seated as a violin trio performed in front of a flower-adorned stage. One source who claims to have been a wedding guest told a French newspaper that everyone was 'stunned' by what had unfolded. 'We all thought we were going to attend a one expected it,' she said. 'Disneyland did things very well. They cancelled everything as soon as they realised the bride was a child. We were shocked to see that.' A criminal investigation is now underway.

Police identify woman after body found on Townsville street
Police say they have identified a woman found dead on a Townsville street last week. A member of the public found the woman's body on an easement on Railway Avenue on Friday morning. Her identity has been established but no details have been released to the public. No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing into what police say is an unexplained death. Detective Acting Inspector Phil Watts said the deceased woman's family was being supported. "We're working with the family and providing them with as much support as we can during what is clearly a difficult time," he said. On Friday police closed Railway Avenue between Doorey Street and Queens Road as they searched for evidence. Investigators have renewed calls for information to anyone who was in the area between 4pm and 6pm on June 17. "We've been led to that time-frame through investigations, through the witness statements which have been obtained and through CCTV," Acting Inspector Watts said. Inspector Watts said there had been an "exceptional" response from the public so far. "It's great to see that the Townsville community cares about their own — they've certainly been a great help to us" he said. Multiple areas of interest were identified but police said this week it would be inappropriate to go into where they were and how they related to the death. Police would not say whether the woman suffered a violent death. Acting Inspector Watts said he had seen "many" unexplained, sudden death investigations. "It's always difficult and it's always horrendous for the family," he said.
