
Kisah Apparels raises Rs 13 crore from Wow Momo, others
Men's ethnic wear brand Kisah Apparels has secured Rs 13 crore ($1.52 million) in a pre-series A funding round led by Sagar Daryani, founder of Wow Momo. The round also saw participation from Apoorv Salarpuria, Rahul Todi, Vinod Dugar, and Inflection Point Ventures.
The company will utilise the funds to expand its offline footprint, scale its direct-to-consumer (D2C) business, and brand-building initiatives.
Kisah claims to have grown from a revenue range of Rs 40 to 45 crore to a current run rate exceeding Rs 100 crore, all while maintaining positive operating cash flow and profitability.
The brand's strategic roadmap focuses on expanding touchpoints, strengthening customer loyalty, and building a resilient omnichannel presence.
Commenting on the funding, Yash Sarawagi, co-founder CEO of Kisah Apparels in a statement said, 'E-commerce gave us pan-India reach and deep customer insights, which are now fuelling our D2C and offline growth, backed by data, customer pull, and positive cash flow at the company level.'
Founded in 2018 by Yash Sarawagi and Yashwi Ladasaria, the Kolkata-based brand offers ethnic wear tailored for Gen Z and millennial consumers. It currently runs two physical stores and plans to open three more across major Indian cities.

Fabletics names new marketing chief among management promotions
Fabletics announced on Wednesday the promotion of Carly Gomez to the role of chief marketing officer, alongside the expansion of Meera Bhatia's role from chief operating officer to the U.S. activewear brand's president and COO. Bhatia joined Fabletics in February 2020. As COO, she has led strategies across e-commerce, production, operations, and technology, while driving the brand's expansion into new channels. ‘Businesses living with old notions will have to change, demi fine jewellery here to stay': Shraddha Kapoor
Amol Patwari and Pallavi Mohadikar launched Palmonas as a modern style jewellery brand and onboarded Bollywood actor Shraddha Kapoor as a co-founder in 2023. With a strong customer base comprising of Gen Z & millennial Indians, it aims to make premium jewellery more affordable and sustainable. Palmonas recently secured a Rs 1.26 crore investment at a valuation of Rs 126 crore from entrepreneurs Namita Thapar and Ritesh Agarwal on the television show Shark Tank India to fuel its omni-channel expansion. spoke to the co-founders Shraddha Kapoor and Pallavi Mohadikar about the demi-fine jewellery segment, competitors, expansion plans and growth strategy. Why be a co-founder in Palmonas, a demi-fine jewellery brand? Shraddha Kapoor: It's the sweet spot. Palmonas is neither expensive like fine jewellery, nor flimsy like imitation. It happens to be a robust option close to the price of imitation but looks and feels just like fine jewellery. Personally, I never cared about the carats in my jewellery. For me it's not about possessing something, it's about how it makes me feel when I wear it, that's real value for me. Just like my outfits, my jewellery is an extension of me and my mood and personality. Unless you're a billionaire, there's only so many designs one can get in fine jewellery. With Palmonas, you're not forced to accessorise yourself with the same set every other day. You can have as many pieces as the outfits you own. FNW: The jewellery industry which includes some big players with deep pockets spend millions on advertising and lobbying mostly using celebrities to endorse their jewellery. As a celebrity and promoter of demi-fine jewellery brand which includes lab-grown diamond jewellery, what do you feel makes Palmonas stand out? SK: Our edge has got nothing to do with budget. We take constant feedback from our customers and what we've learnt is that our main pull is still our designs. And we like it that way, it keeps us on our toes to be fashion-forward, fresh and set trends. We think it's lazy to pin ourselves to a single differentiator. We appeal to a generation that wants both style and sense at the same time. No wonder our Lab Grown pieces are flying off the shelves and we haven't even started marketing them all out yet. In fact, we don't see other players as competition. More the merrier I say. The demi fine market is only growing and it's here to stay. There is so much innovation and literacy happening in finance, that GenZ doesn't seem to be looking at jewellery as an investment medium. Jewellery is an expression. Like footwear. FNW: As an actor, someone who comes from the make belief movie world, what do you feel brands like Palmonas need to do to change mindsets (to fashion first) and notion about jewellery purchase that has been existing for years in India? SK: Just like in the movies, all we need to do is listen to the audiences. The audience is smarter than ever before. They know what's valuable and what's not. They can define value for themselves now. As an actor as well as the co-founder of Palmonas, my fundamentals are the same, do not take the audience for granted. In fact, people are now watching movies not for stars but content, so it's on us to choose movies that give better content to the moviegoers. Same way, they're choosing demi fine and lab grown anyway, we don't need to change their minds, they're changing the markets. Those businesses that are living with old notions are going to have to change sooner or later. FNW: Do you think India has warmed up to the idea of purchasing branded demi-fine jewellery, if you could talk us through the evolution of the brand since its launch? Pallavi Mohadikar: Totally, and we've actually seen that shift happen in real-time. In the beginning, a lot of people didn't even know what 'demi-fine' meant. But over time, with content, conversations, and genuine product experiences, people started seeing the value, especially younger audiences who want affordable, stylish jewellery that's also durable. The response has honestly been very encouraging. FNW: Tell us about your domestic and international expansion plans, which markets are you looking to target for growth? PM: Right now, our main focus is honestly just educating people, helping them understand why demi-fine jewellery is such a smart and practical choice. We've been expanding steadily, from our very first store to now our tenth, and it's been super encouraging to see the response. We're growing, yes but our eyes are on India first. We're really focusing on building a strong presence here. FNW: Palmonas aims to be a Rs 1,000 crore brand in the next three years. Reports suggest that there is demand which is reflected in the company's sales which has witnessed a year-on-year growth. How to you plan to gain customer loyalty over years to keep up with the growth momentum to achieve your goals? PM: That goal is ambitious, but very real for us. We're not just chasing numbers, we're building a brand that people love, trust, and keep coming back to. We're focused on customer experience, consistent quality, and community building. And we're investing heavily in tech and logistics to make sure our backend grows just as smartly as the brand on the outside. Loyalty comes from trust and we're committed to earning it every single day.

EU remains ‘highly vulnerable' and dependent on US defence production
Despite recent efforts to boost European defence production, the bloc remains 'highly vulnerable' and heavily reliant on the United States—particularly for major, high-end defence equipment—according to a new analysis by the Brussels-based economic think tank Bruegel. Trade statistics show that the value of weapons imported to Europe increased from approximately $3.4 billion for the period 2019–2021 to $8.5 billion for 2022–2024 across the 27 member states, with the US leading this increase despite concerns over its capabilities. 'Europe has the industrial production capacities to increase production of tanks and infantry fighting vehicles,' said Guntramm Wolff, Bruegel's senior fellow, during the launch of the report Fit for war by 2030? on Friday morning.* 'What is more concerning is the more modern weapons systems, where we have limited capabilities,' he added. Bruegel and Kiel Institute for the World Economy researchers have detected that the reliance on the US for certain defence and security domains is very high, including hypersonic missiles, next generation jets, AI integrated systems and intelligence services. 'There has been some increase in various systems—artillery in particular has grown substantially—but these increases are still relatively small compared to the overall demand,' Wolff said. For example, the report notes that Europe held 1,627 main battle tanks in 2023, while projections suggest 2,359 to 2,920 will be needed in the coming years, depending on the scenario. As for air defence systems such as the Patriot and SAMP/T, stock levels in 2024 stood at 35 units—far below the 89 required. 'Major investments in research and development will be essential,' the authors advise EU policymakers and national governments, especially given Europe's lagging defence R&D compared to global competitors. In 2023, Europe invested €13 billion in military R&D. By contrast, China invested €21 billion, while the US allocated a staggering $145 billion. In March, the European Commission unveiled its rearmament initiative—now called Defence Readiness 2030—with a target of mobilising up to €800 billion to address the bloc's most critical defence shortfalls. Meanwhile, NATO is expected to call on its 32 members to increase defence spending to 5% of GDP by 2032—or potentially by 2035—a target Spain has already criticised as 'unreasonable'. But simply increasing budgets won't solve the problem, the report warns. 'More military spending will not automatically and immediately translate into military capabilities, especially if the defence industrial base is already under strain,' the researchers argue. The real challenge, they stress, lies in converting funding into tangible capabilities through a coherent, forward-looking strategic and operational plan. With the European defence market still highly fragmented, greater integration would improve cost-effectiveness. But alongside procurement reform, military planning must also be strengthened. 'This is really about rebuilding the ability to understand war through the lens of peer conflict—and that is just as much of a challenge as disbursing the money,' said Dr. Alexandr Burilkov, assistant director for research at the GLOBSEC GeoTech Center. According to the researchers' estimates, even the proposed €800 billion may fall short—insufficient to cover the development of missile capabilities, procurement of tanks, artillery, and infantry fighting vehicles, modernisation of forces, and investment in air defence systems. Russian drones struck the Black Sea port city of Odesa and the northeastern city of Kharkiv overnight, killing at least one person, Ukrainian officials have said. The attacks against Odesa sparked fires in several apartment blocks, Ukraine's Emergency Service said. Flames engulfed a four-storey residential building in the city, which partly collapsed and injured three emergency workers. A separate blaze spread across the upper section of a 23-storey high-rise, leading to the evacuation of 600 residents. In total, one person was killed and 14 others were wounded in the overnight strikes against the port city, according to Odesa's regional prosecutor's office. At least eight drones hit civilian infrastructure in Kharkiv, injuring two children and two others, Ukraine's Emergency Service said. A further four people were wounded in a second Russian strike on Friday. Ukraine's Air Force said Russia launched 80 Shahed and decoy drones overnight, with Ukrainian air defences intercepting or jamming 70 of them. A Russian missile strike on a nine-storey Kyiv apartment building earlier this week was a sign that more pressure must be applied on Moscow to agree to a ceasefire, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Thursday. The drone and missile attack on Kyiv early Tuesday, the deadliest assault on the capital this year, killed 28 people across the city and wounded 142 others, Kyiv Military Administration head Tymur Tkachenko said. 'This attack is a reminder to the world that Russia rejects a ceasefire and chooses killing,' Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram, and thanked Ukraine's partners who he said are ready to pressure Russia to 'feel the real cost of the war". As Russia proceeds with a summer offensive across the roughly 1,000-kilometre front line, US-led peace efforts have failed to gain traction. Russian President Vladimir Putin has effectively rejected an offer from US President Donald Trump for an immediate 30-day ceasefire, making it conditional on a halt to Ukraine's mobilisation effort and a freeze on Western arms supplies. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Friday that the date for the next round of peace talks is expected to be set next week. Ukrainian officials have not recently spoken about resuming talks with Russia, last held when delegations met in Istanbul on 2 June, though Ukraine continues to offer a ceasefire and support US-led diplomatic efforts to stop the fighting. The two rounds of brief talks yielded only agreements on the exchange of prisoners and wounded soldiers.
