BREADY, Northern Ireland — West Indies piled up its second-highest Twenty20 innings in men's cricket and went on to secure a 62-run victory over Ireland on Sunday to win the series 1-0.
Ireland chose to bowl first in the third T20 and West Indies responded with 256-5 at Bready Cricket Club — propelled by an opening stand of 122 in 10.3 overs by Evin Lewis (91 runs in 44 balls) and captain Shai Hope (51 in 27).

Aussie opener Sam Konstas claims cricket fans will see a different person and player to the one that made his Test debut at the MCG last year having replaced Marnus Labuschagne in the starting XI. The Aussie selectors finally pulled the pin on Labuschagne after a drop in form across the last two years saw him struggle for runs. The experiment to move him up the order and open, alongside Usman Khawaja, in the World Test Championship final didn't help the top order after a second innings collapse cost Australia the match. And selectors had finally seen enough having opted to replace Labuschagne with Konstas in the line-up for the opening test match against the West Indies. Aussie fans have been calling for Konstas to return to the starting XI ever since his barnstorming entrance to the Test arena. Konstas took on Jasprit Bumrah at the MCG with an aggressive approach, which captured the attention of Aussie cricket fans. Although the selectors didn't reward the youngster, but instead dropped him for the Sri Lanka series. And the 19-year-old was then left out in favour of Labuschagne for the WTC final. But after the top orders failings once again, selectors listened to the calls and have reinstated Konstas back to the top of the order. And Konstas feels fans will see a more mature batter when he takes to the crease against the West Indies. 'The emotions probably got to me with the crowd,' Konstas said of his Boxing Day knock. 'It was good reflecting, having a bit of time off to strengthen my game up. I've been trying to focus on a few key areas with my batting coach, and I feel like I've come a long way, so hopefully I can display that in the next few Test matches.' And Konstas admitted it's nice to back in the side and isn't taking it for granted. 'It's been good training with the whole group and getting to know everyone a lot more,' Konstas said from Barbados. 'Obviously it's a tough team to crack into as we've got legends of the game.'For me, hopefully I grab my opportunity because it's such a strong side and I'm very grateful for that. 'It's a dream come true to be honest, 19 years old, playing for your country, travelling the world. I'm very lucky to be where I am currently.' Since chief selector George Bailey took over in 2021 the Queenslander has been in the team. A former World No.1 batter, Labuschagne has only averaged 27.82 in the past 12 months. And after moving him to opener, hoping it would revitalise his career, the selectors made the call ahead of the series against the West Indies with one-eye on the Ashes later this year. "Marnus at his best can be a really important member of this team. He understands his output hasn't been at the level we, or he, expects," Bailey said in a statement. "We will continue working with him on the areas of his game we feel he needs to rediscover." Former Australian coach Justin Langer urged the selectors to stand by Labuschagne, despite his lack of runs. "He's actually a very, very important link in this chain," Langer said of the batter. "You think about the history of Australian cricket. The best young players come in surrounded by absolute guns. Michael Clarke, Ricky Ponting, Damien Martyn and Matthew Hayden. They come in and they're around gun players. "If you just all of a sudden bring a couple of kids in, Cameron Green's still young to the game, and you have to bring another kid in there (to replace Labuschagne)." Despite the likes of former captain Tim Paine and Langer backing the Queenslander, his form was telling and the selectors made the call with his chances of playing in the Ashe up-in-the-air.

Reading confirm plans for exciting season ticket holder open day at Bearwood
Reading have confirmed plans for the highly-anticipated season ticket holders open day at Bearwood this summer. With new owner Rob Couhig at the helm, season ticket holders were encouraged to purchase or renew early with the offer a trip to Bearwood for anyone who did so before June 6. Advertisement The state-of-the-art facility has been open since 2019 but has never fully opened for supporters to visit before. However, fans will now have the chance to have a two-hour tour of the home of the men and Academy side on Sunday, July 15. "I think most fans knew we had something special here," Couhig told the club. "There was a little thought of what Rob was going to do with this facility, but I don't think those people understood me at all so I'm going to forgive them for now. "We want them to come out and get the full breadth of being a true Reading football fan. This facility is important and we will plan some special things for the day. It will start early on go on for a long time. People will be invited out in two-hour shifts because we have so many season ticket holders." Fixtures for the new season are announced on Wednesday, June 26 and the season gets underway on the first weekend of August.

Everton transfers and contracts: What we're hearing on Branthwaite, Gueye and Barry
There is an early sense of deja vu about Everton's summer window. Once again, defender Jarrad Branthwaite is dominating the headlines. A year ago, Manchester United tried to take advantage of the Merseyside club's fraught financial position, submitting two bids for Branthwaite considerably below Everton's asking price of around £75million. Advertisement Speculation over a potential move has persisted this summer, with Tottenham Hotspur the most strongly linked. But Everton have taken a more bullish approach over Branthwaite. Where there was an acceptance last summer that they would have to sell if the right offer came in, The Athletic reported this month that the club had informed interested suitors of their desire to keep hold of the England international. From there, the logical direction of travel was always going to involve discussions over a new deal. Everton are well protected when it comes to the 22-year-old. He has two years remaining on his contract, plus a club option for a third. But his situation is atypical. He signed his last deal in the autumn of 2023, just as he was cementing a regular first-team berth. The Carlisle United academy graduate is a key player now, but not one of Everton's top earners. In that sense, there is a disconnect. The club have now informed him of their desire not only to retain his services this summer, but offer new terms. Discussions have taken place but remain at an exploratory stage. This has become a key issue for new owners The Friedkin Group, manager David Moyes and CEO Angus Kinnear. It is notable, for example, that they have taken initial tentative steps to tie Branthwaite down at a time when others, such as vice-captain James Tarkowski, midfielder James Garner and left-back Vitalii Mykolenko are soon to go into the final 12 months of their deals. They want to build around Branthwaite and would see his retention in the face of interest as a show of intent. Equally, they will not want to be seen to climb down from their position. Their hand would be further strengthened should they manage to agree fresh terms, but even then, it would be a surprise if interest did not persist. What comes next will be fascinating and tell us much about whether TFG is able to turn positive intent into something more tangible. Everton have made their first signing of the summer by triggering loanee Carlos Alcaraz's €15m purchase option. He will join officially at the end of the month. Yet most of the intrigue, out of necessity, has involved those soon to be out of contract. Club captain Seamus Coleman, midfield stalwart Idrissa Gueye, striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Michael Keane all see their deals expire at the end of the month. Advertisement An offer has been made to Coleman, while talks have continued with Gueye. Everton have been reluctant to offer the Senegal international a multi-year contract, with an initial one-year extension containing the option for an additional 12 months the direction of travel. Gueye is one of the high earners and will be 36 in September, even if he has shown little sign of slowing down. There has been confidence at Everton over a new deal, but it is still to be agreed or signed. With a squad rebuild to come, they will hope to avoid another headache in midfield. Largely through new head of trading Nick Hammond and manager Moyes, Everton have remained in contact with the representatives of Keane and Calvert-Lewin. New deals for either have not been completely ruled out, but Keane has interest from clubs in England's top two leagues as well as MLS. He is expected to want a multi-year deal. Sources, speaking on condition of anonymity to protect relationships, suggest that the most likely outcome with Calvert-Lewin remains a departure. Talks up to now have not yielded much progress, with the club keen to remain disciplined in their negotiating position. The 28-year-old is likely to want a long-term deal on lucrative terms. The uncertainty there, together with Armando Broja's return to Chelsea, has increased the prospect of Everton dipping into the market for a striker. The Athletic was first to report interest in Villarreal's Thierno Barry this month and the 22-year-old remains a key target. Everton's pursuit of Barry is complicated by his participation at the Under-21 European Championship with France, plus a lofty release clause set at €40m. The club would prefer to negotiate with Villarreal rather than trigger that clause. Moyes continues to play an active role in the recruitment process and has taken in Club World Cup games from his Miami base. Advertisement Everton continue to assess targets and sound out their availability, but due to the overhaul behind the scenes and lingering profit and sustainability rule considerations, this was always likely to be a window in which the bulk of the business came later. The problem for Everton is that they have so much to do and little time to waste. The window is unlikely to remain quiet for long.
