Dan Brown's next thriller, 'The Secret of Secrets,' to be published Sept. 9
NEW YORK — Dan Brown' s next global, multi-tiered thriller finds protagonist Robert Langdon journeying from Prague to New York to London as he evades a would-be assassin and ponders the depths of human consciousness.
Doubleday announced Wednesday that 'The Secret of Secrets,' his first Langdon novel since 'Origin' came out in 2017, will be published Sept. 9. Brown, best known for the blockbuster 'The Da Vinci Code,' is calling it his 'most intricately plotted and ambitious novel.'
'Writing it has been an unforgettable journey of discovery,' he said in a statement.
Brown's new novel begins with Langdon, the Harvard symbologist, in Prague. According to Doubleday, he plans to see a lecture by noetic scientist and emerging love interest Katherine Solomon, only to have her talk become a murder scene and for Solomon to disappear.
'As the plot expands into London and New York, Langdon desperately searches for Katherine . . . and for answers,' Doubleday announced. 'In a thrilling race through the dual worlds of futuristic science and mystical lore, he uncovers a shocking truth about a secret project that will forever change the way we think about the human mind.'
Brown has set previous books in France, Italy and Spain among other countries and researches his locations in person. He said in a statement that his fascination with Prague 'began with its deep history of mysticism and the occult. It is a labyrinth of enigmatic sites — an ideal backdrop for a Robert Langdon thriller –- a city of secrets, both ancient and modern.'
Brown added that 'The Secret of Secrets' was also a chance to indulge another longtime obsession — the mind itself.
'I happen to believe we are on the cusp of a major revolution in the way we think about our brains and our relationships to each other,' he said. 'Cutting-edge science is now exploring advanced models of consciousness that seem poised to explain some of the mind's deepest mysteries. I chose this topic because I find it irresistibly compelling, and also because it is relevant to every single one of us.'
Doubleday plans to release the book in at least a dozen countries, including Czech Republic, Turkey, Spain and Finland. Brown's other novels include 'Angels & Demons,' 'The Lost Symbol' and 'Inferno.'

London police arrested Brown in May on suspicion of the single bodily harm charge, but in a subsequent indictment, prosecutors added charges for assault causing actual bodily harm and having an offensive weapon, a bottle. Brown did not enter pleas on those additional counts but is due back in court in July. The 'Under the Influence' artist was released from police custody in mid-May after posting $6.7 million bail. His arrest initially posed a threat to his Breezy Bowl tour, which kicked off June 8 in Amsterdam. In an Instagram story shared after his release, Brown informed fans he would be going from 'cage to stage.' The singer's trial is set for Oct. 26, 2026. A representative for Brown did not immediately respond to The Times' request for comment. Musician and Brown friend Omololu Akinlolu ((who performs as HoodyBaby), 39, was charged with causing grievous bodily harm for his alleged involvement in the 2023 incident and pleaded not guilty during Friday's hearing. The R&B singer arrived in the United Kingdom to put in his plea on the running charge of causing bodily harm to an alleged victim in a nightclub two years ago. Chris Brown was previously taken into Manchester police custody last month in connection with the nightclub attack. The 36-year-old, alongside his team of lawyers, decided to plead not guilty to allegedly assaulting music producer Abe Diaw with a tequila bottle at a London nightclub in 2023. The process took place at the Southwark Crown Court around 10 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025. Decked in a blue suit and black tie corporate fit, Brown reportedly said nothing more than to enter his "not guilty" plea, identify himself, and his date of birth. His co-defendant, Dallas rapper and producer Omololu Akinlolu, also went through the same process in court. PEOPLE confirmed that adjudication will be the next stage of the case and is set to begin on July 11. The main trial is also scheduled to commence on October 26, 2026. Brown was released on a $6.7 million bail on May 21, after his arrest in the United Kingdom. Brown's arrest occurred in the early hours of May 15 in Manchester at The Lowry Hotel in the heart of the city, just hours before his appearance in court. London's Metropolitan police confirmed the arrest and reported that Brown had been seized on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. They confirmed that he was in custody at the time of their statement, which read, "A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 02:00hrs on Thursday, May 15 on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He has been taken into custody, where he remains." The police noted that investigations into the incident that happened at Hanover Square on February 19, 2023, were being supervised by detectives of the Central West Area Basic Command Unit. His arrest happened in the middle of his ongoing "Breezy Bowl" stadium tour, which celebrates his two-decades-long career in the music industry. Brown's arrest did not go unnoticed. News that he had been taken into police custody on foreign soil sparked reactions from his fans and friends. She claimed that he instead instructed his staff to hide evidence by getting rid of the dog. The dog, named Hades, was then ferried to Humboldt County, but he was rescued by the Humane Society, which later euthanized him. Avila demanded a settlement of $90 million in damages from the singer to get her back on track and ease losses suffered during the attack and treatment. Chris Brown enters not guilty plea over alleged bottle attack at London club
The American singer and actor Chris Brown has pleaded not guilty to attempting to cause grievous bodily harm in an alleged bottle attack at a London nightclub. Brown, 36, is accused of attempting to unlawfully and maliciously cause Abraham Diaw grievous bodily harm with intent at the Tape club in Hanover Square, Mayfair. At a plea and trial preparation hearing at Southwark crown court on Friday morning, his co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu, a US national, denied the same charge. Both defendants are further charged with assaulting Diaw, occasioning him actual bodily harm in the incident, on 19 February 2023, and Brown also faces one count of having an offensive weapon – a bottle – in a public place. They were not asked to enter pleas to those charges, and a further court date was set for 11 July. A five- to seven-day trial was scheduled to start from 26 October 2026. Brown arrived at court at 9am to a large group of photographers outside and walked in silence to the building's entrance. About 20 people sat in the public gallery behind the dock, many of them fans of the singer. The Grammy-winning singer was arrested after flying into the UK for the Breezy Bowl XX tour. He was detained by police at about 2am on 15 May at the five-star Lowry hotel in Salford, Greater Manchester. Brown was able to continue with his scheduled international tour after he was freed on conditional bail having agreed to pay a £5m security fee to the court. He performed in Cardiff on Thursday night and is due to play two nights in London this weekend before heading to Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow, followed by dates in Ireland and elsewhere in Europe.
