RAF suspended CEO - Collins Letsoalo speaks out at The Portfolio Committee on Transport
Collins Letsoalo has led the RAF since 2020 with his contract expiring in August of 2025.
A few weeks backs Letsoalo was accused of misconduct and was then placed on special leave on May 27, 2025, following a preliminary Special Investigation Units (SIU) report that alleged irregularities in many high-value RAF contracts, a decision that was rescinded into him receiving a full suspension on June 3. After the first charges failed, he was charged with 'insubordination,' for refusing to appear before the SCOPA.
This comes after Collins made a contentious decision to dissolve a group of lawyers he called 'greedy and corrupt,' and he believes his suspension is the legal and judicial elites conspiring in an effort to have him removed from office due to his latest decision.

Collins has decided to contest his suspension as he says it was unlawful and a part of a larger plot that started when he tried to clean up the RAF and stop a long running legal gravy train from those in power.
The Portfolio Committee on Transport has decided to proceed with its follow-up meeting with the RAF board on June 11, 2025, at the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa. The committee held a follow-up briefing with the Department of Transport and Road Accident Fund (RAF) to discuss issues that came up at the June 3, 2025, meeting.
In the meeting, Collins also detailed grave dangers to his safety mentioning that his security team has been taken from him and he now walks with no security to protect him, and he mentioned other threats he's received prior, even from the taxi sector mentioning that it's no doubt his life is grave danger and it's just a matter of time.
Letsoalo's case with the court is set for an urgent hearing on June 17, 2025.

British man arrested in Cyprus suspected of spying and terror offences
A British man has been arrested in Cyprus on suspicion of spying and terror-related offences. The BBC understands he is thought to have carried out surveillance for Iran on the RAF Akrotiri base on the island. Local media say he is of Azerbaijani descent and has connections to Iran's Revolutionary Guards. He appeared in a district court earlier on Saturday and was detained for a further eight days. The Foreign Office said it was in contact with Cypriot authorities. RAF Akrotiri is the UK's most significant base in the region and has previously been used to help defend Israeli skies from attack by Iran. Last week, it was announced that further planes would be sent there to protect existing UK assets. In a statement, the UK Foreign Office said: "We are in contact [with] the authorities in Cyprus regarding the arrest of a British man." The statement was provided to the BBC following a question regarding reports in Cypriot media about the counter-terror arrest. Police on the island said a man had been arrested on suspicion of terror-related offences and espionage. They said they would not say more for reasons of national security. Cyprus's ANT1 news outlet said the suspect was thought to have had RAF Akrotiri under surveillance, as well as Cyprus's own Andreas Papandreou Air Base in the western region of Paphos since mid-April. RAF Akrotiri is home to fast jets, reconnaissance, transport and refuelling aircraft.

‘Wonderful' and ‘loved by all' - 65-year-old woman reported kidnapped in Gqeberha
Andre Snyman eblockwatch/Facebook Lindsay Knowlden, 65, was reported as kidnapped on Saturday. She and her husband were apparently accosted outside a market in Markman. Police said an investigation was under way. A desperate search for a 65-year-old Gqeberha woman, described as 'wonderful' and 'loved by all', was underway on Saturday, after she was reported kidnapped. Atlas Security was at the scene at the Nelson Mandela Bay Fresh Produce Market in Markman, north of the city, early on Saturday morning. According to information provided to the private security company, Lindsay Knowlden and her husband were accosted by armed men in the underground parking lot after arriving for work. He was assaulted with a firearm and suffered a laceration to his eye, while she was bundled into a silver Polo and then driven away. The couple's son, Gregory Knowlden, was overcome with emotion on Saturday afternoon. 'She's a wonderful, friendly, genuinely caring person. Loved by all,' he said of his mother. He explained that his father was an agent at the market, and that his mother worked for him. 'They were both there to go to work,' he said. Police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge said an investigation was 'actively underway'. He said no ransom demand had been received as of yet and appealed to the public 'for any information related to this incident'. It comes on the back of a spate of kidnappings for ransom in recent months, with the Eastern Cape an apparent hotspot. Last week, an EFF councillor, Kholeka Mpupha, appeared in the Dimbaza Magistrate's Court in connection with the abduction of a 42-year-old hardware outlet owner.

MLB suspends Pirates' Dennis Santana four games for swinging at fan during mid-game altercation
Major League Baseball suspended Dennis Santana four games after he swung at a fan during a heated altercation during Thursday night's doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers. The Pittsburgh Pirates relief pitcher was also fined an undisclosed amount. Santana, 29, declined to get into specifics when he addressed the situation with reporters after the game, but did say that the fan involved had "crossed the line. "You guys know me — I'm a calm-demeanor type of person," Santana said through an interpreter after the game. "I've never had any issues for any of the teams I've played for. This guy crossed the line a few times." The incident played out during the seventh inning of the second game near the visitor's bullpen. Santana was seen approaching the wall with a security guard or officer and pointing in the direction of a fan. That's when the reliever leaped up and took a swing at the fan. "He crossed the line, and I'd like to leave it at that. I've never had anything like this happen in my eight years in baseball," Santana added. Santana will still appear for the Pirates as his appeal of the suspension is reviewed by the league. A Detroit Tigers spokesperson confirmed to The Athletic on Thursday that the fan was ejected from the game.
