Helter Skelter
Episode 8 of Mobland begins with Conrad and Maeve reflecting on Brendan's birth and the dreams they had for the boy. All of that has come crashing down now that he's been acquainted with the wrong side of a chainsaw.
Seraphina is still in a state of shock but she's dropped off with Harry, while Kat now owes Jaime Lopez a big favour for sparing her life. Harry returns to the estate with Seraphina, with Maeve watching on disapprovingly from the window upstairs.
Seraphina reflects on what happened with the deal, going on to admit to the family that she tried to strike a deal for the family's benefit. Conrad reassures her there's nothing she could have done differently, and out of everybody, he blames Richie for this.
Maeve shows up in the middle of this and is strangely empathetic to Seraphina, giving her a hug and reassuring that she is a Harrigan given she tried to save Brendan. She also promises that they're going to avenge his death.
When the ladies leave the room, Harry admits to Conrad that he had to strike a deal with Kat McAllister to get Seraphina out. Conrad isn't exactly happy and he questions Harry over how he knows Kat, but he keeps his cards close to his chest. The only thing he reveals is that he was approached 2 years back to switch over and work with her but he refused.
After what's happened, Conrad is going to move Eddie, Bella and Kevin to a safehouse. But interestingly, he's keeping Gina and Jan at the estate. Conrad gets straight back to business though, wanting intel on the fentanyl and the ties with Jaime Lopez, wanting Harry to organize a sit-down with him.
Kevin is incredulous when he finds out the extent of this and it's definitely eyebrow raising. Conrad not only wants to try and broker a deal with the man who just killed Brendan, but also bring in Kat's security detail to beef the place up to make sure nothing untoward happens.
Harry's dilemma continues though when Jan tells him about the extent of Eddie's ties with Gina. Eddie talks a big game to Harry when he shows up in the bedroom to confront him, but he's taken aback by Harry's chilling calmness.
Harry actually promises to give his blessing and support this relationship with Gina… but he also reassures Eddie that one day, when he's least expecting it and he's at the top of the mountain, he'll 'push him off'. This certainly wipes the smile off his face.
However, Harry's words with Gina don't have the same effect when he tells her about Eddie's murderous capabilities. Gina shrugs it off though, pointing out that she's just choosing a guy similar to her father's traits.
Meanwhile, Alice's Oscar performance last episode has brought in former Deputy Chief Inspector Colin Tattersall to assist (see: babysit) the police over how to break the Harrigan family. He's spent 30 years in the business and now he's a freelancer.
Colin doesn't like their current idea of going after Jan and believes that a family with tentacles as long as the Harrigans can't be broken in that way. Instead, he believes they should go after Richie and work with him.
Back at the estate, with Harry leaving for London, Conrad speaks to Jan and demands she call Alice. Conrad wants her to come down for dinner, and he continues his scheming after, speaking to Bella and essentially telling her to spy on Kevin.
Maeve is still here too, similarly scheming away, and after giving Seraphina sleeping pills, immediately speaks to Kevin and reveals that Seraphina, just before dozing off, claimed that she's number 1 in the family. Kevin ignores Maeve's spinning as he has bigger fish to fry. He heads on down to the nursing home and finds the address Rigby is staying in from the visitor's book.
En-route to this organized meet, Harry speaks to Freddie and tells him that 'the King is dead'. He knows that Conrad isn't in charge and that Maeve is the one pulling the strings. When Freddie wants out, Harry brings up how that's not a great idea. Harry continues on, revealing that he and Kevin are going to organize a coup and take the family over and make sure Richie is out the picture in the process too.
Whether this is true or just a way to loosen Freddie's lips is still unclear at this point but we do get confirmation that Archie is clean and not the mole. Freddie knows who the real mole is working against them but we don't find that out right now. Instead, Harry throws Freddie off the roof and leaves to speak to Kat.
Kat agrees to Conrad's terms, but makes it clear here that she's doing this for Harry, who now owes her two favours.
Meanwhile, Fisk, Mukasa and Colin shows up to see Richie, bringing up how they want to take down the entire Harrigan operation but they need help to give it a bit of a push. In exchange, Richie will get full immunity plus ten years from the date Conrad is convicted.
However, the police make it clear that they own him, which certainly isn't going to fly with him. He takes a gun and shoots both Fisk and Mukasa, killing them both. Colin though, sits in the wings and reassures him that yes, Richie does own the police. Hearing this, Richie agrees to their deal.
The Episode Review
Another intense episode of Mobland rolls round and this time we get some big revelations from key players. The mole working within the Harrigan family is still unknown at this point but it's clear the information is dangerous enough that Harry had to kill Freddie to keep it quiet.
Meanwhile, Gina and Eddie's relationship looks like it's going to continue for the foreseeable future but given Eddie's cocky demeanour, it's unclear whether he's just with her to mess with Harry or if he genuinely likes the girl. Either way, that's a tricky powder-keg that could explode at any moment.
We still don't know the full extent over Tommy's death either. Sure, we know that Eddie killed him but we don't know if he did so under the guidance of Maeve or not, which does seem to be my general line of thinking here.
Conrad is definitely slipping though and it's interesting that he decided to keep Jan and Gina at the estate. He doesn't 'own' these two yet like he does with Bella, but that could well change depending on what happens during this dinner with Alice.
Either way, the ending sets things up for a dramatic crescendo to this season, which is shaping up to be one the best shows of 2025.

Man accused of forcing US congressman off road turns himself in
A man who allegedly threatened a US congressman with his vehicle in Ohio has turned himself in to the authorities, police have driver was identified by the Rocky River Police Department on Friday as 36-year-old Feras Hamdan. He has pleaded not guilty to charges in relation the a video shared on social media, Max Miller, a Republican house representative, said a man honked his horn and forced him "off the road" in an attempt to get his attention. He alleged the man tried to show him a Palestinian flag, said "death to Israel" and that "he wanted to kill me and my family". Police said they put out a warrant for Mr Hamdan's arrest after the congressman filed a criminal complaint. They said Mr Hamdan turned himself shortly after. The incident, which occurred in Rocky River, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, is now under investigation by state and federal authorities, including the US Capitol Police. Mr Hamdan, who is reported to be a doctor in Ohio with a private practice, faces charges of aggravated menacing and ethnic intimidation. He appeared in court on Friday, where his bond was set at $500,000 (£371,500) by Rocky River Municipal Court Judge Joseph Burke. He was ordered to surrender his passport and is due back in court on 8 July. On Thursday afternoon, Miller posted a video on X describing the alleged incident, calling the driver "unhinged". "The deranged hatred in this country has grown out of control," he wrote in the post. Miller added that "as a Marine, a proud Jewish American and a staunch defender of Israel, I will not hide in the face of this blatant antisemitic violence".The incident comes at the heels of a fatal attack on two Democratic state politicians in Minnesota and their spouses, an incident that has raised the alarm on political violence in the US. State lawmaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, were shot and killed in their homes on Saturday in what has been described as a "politically motivated assassination." Another lawmaker, State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were also shot but have arrested Vance Luther Boelter in connection to the Minnesota attacks, whom investigators say had a list of 70 "targets" that included names of other Democratic Donald Trump has also been the target of political violence, with two assassination attempts against him in 2024.

Relief and a raised fist as Mahmoud Khalil goes free – but release ‘very long overdue'
Mahmoud Khalil squinted in the afternoon sun as he walked away from the fences topped with razor wire, through two tall gates and out into the thick humidity of central Louisiana. After more than three months detained in this remote and notorious immigration detention center in the small town of Jena, he described a bittersweet feeling of release, walking towards a handful of journalists with a raised fist, visibly relieved, but composed and softly spoken. 'Although justice prevailed, it's very long overdue and this shouldn't have taken three months,' he said, after a federal judge in New Jersey compelled the Trump administration to let him leave detention as his immigration case proceeds. 'I leave some incredible men behind me, over one thousand people behind me, in a place where they shouldn't have been,' he said. 'I hope the next time I will be in Jena is to actually visit.' Flanked by two lawyers, and speaking at a roadside framed by the detention center in the backdrop, he told the Guardian how his 104 days in detention had changed him and his politics. 'The moment you enter this facility, your rights leave you behind,' he said. He pointed to the sprawling facility now behind him. 'Once you enter there, you see a different reality,' he said. 'Just a different reality about this country that supposedly champions human rights and liberty and justice. Once you cross, literally that door, you see the opposite side of what happens on this country.' Khalil is the most high profile of the students arrested and detained by the Trump administration for their pro-Palestinian activism. He was the final one left in detention, following an arrest that saw him snatched from his Columbia apartment building in New York. The Trump administration has labelled Khalil a national security threat and invoked rarely used powers of the secretary of state under immigration law to seek his removal. The administration has fought vigorously to keep Khalil detained and continues to push for his removal from the US. Asked by the Guardian what his response to these allegations were, Khalil replied: 'Trump and his administration, they chose the wrong person for this. That doesn't mean there is a right person for this. There is no right person who should be detained for actually protesting a genocide.' He spoke briefly of his excitement of seeing his newborn son for the first time away from the supervision of the Department of Homeland security. The baby was born while Khalil was held in detention. He looked forward to their first hug in private. He looked forward to seeing his wife, who had been present at the time of his arrest. He smiled briefly. And then he turned back towards, ready to take him on the first leg of a journey back home.

Colorado husband Barry Morphew seen in new mug shot after DA reveals shocking evidence in wife's murder
Colorado husband Barry Morphew was pictured in a new mugshot taken by officials in Arizona after he was indicted for the murder of his wife Suzanne. The 43-year-old mother of two vanished from the couple's stunning $1.5 million home in Marysville, 150 miles from Denver, in May 2020. Barry, 53, was charged on Friday. Barry Morphew was arrested in Cave Creek, Arizona on Friday and has been charged with first-degree murder. He was seen disheveled and bleary-eyed in a new mugshot by Maricopa County Sheriff's Office following his arrest. The landscaper's bail was set at $3 million, as investigators held a press conference Friday evening to release further details about the case. An indictment seen by revealed that Suzanne died with the presence of a powerful animal tranquilizer called butorphanol-azaperone-medetomidine (BAM) in her body. The charging document released Friday delivered an apparent smoking gun in theatrical style. 'Ultimately, the prescription records show that when Suzanne Morphew disappeared, only one private citizen living in that entire area of the state had access to BAM: Barry Morphew,' it said. A tranquilizer needle cap, darts and a tranquillizer gun were found in the couple's home during a law enforcement search conducted shortly after Suzanne vanished. Barry used BAM to hunt deer while in the couple's native Indiana. They moved to Colorado from the Hoosier State in 2018 and were having severe marital difficulties at the time of Suzanne's disappearance. The much-loved mom vanished while the younger of the couple's two daughter's Macy was away from the family home for a few days. Cops allege Barry killed Suzanne on the morning of May 9 2020, the day before her disappearance was reported. At a press conference on Friday night, District Attorney Anne Kelly declined to elaborate beyond what was contained in the indictment. She said only that her office never gave up on getting justice for Suzanne, adding: 'We have worked very hard to move forward in this case.' Morphew has maintained his innocence since his wife disappeared, and his attorney David Beller blasted the new indictment. He said: 'Yet again, the government allows their predetermined conclusion to lead their search for evidence. Barry maintains his innocence. The case has not changed, and the outcome will not either.' Barry was first charged with murdering his wife in 2021, in the absence of his wife's body. But the case collapsed amid prosecutorial misconduct, with Macy and the couple's other daughter Mallory both standing by their father throughout. A new team of prosecutors began probing Barry again after Suzanne's body was discovered dumped along the side of a rural road in Saguache County, Colorado in September 2023 in a patch of wasteland known as 'The Boneyard.' That is about an hour's drive south of the Morphew residence. And more dramatic evidence revealed for the first time Friday revealed that Suzanne did not die where her body was found. Forensic experts said the lack of animal activity on Suzanne's body combined with the lack of decomposure of the cycling clothes she was wearing mean 'it was unlikely Suzanne decomposed from a fresh body to a skeleton at this location.' The charging document did not offer any further theories or evidence as to where investigators believe Suzanne was killed or where her body was initially concealed. No cause of death has been given because of how badly Suzanne had decomposed, but a coroner's report said she'd died with the BAM tranquilizer in her system. Suzanne was reported missing by her neighbor on Mother's Day 2020 after Mallory and Macy were unable to reach her on the phone. Her last communication with a friend was on May 9, the day investigators believe Barry killed her. Barry and Suzanne were alone at their home at the time of the disappearance. On May 6, Suzanne texted Barry saying: 'I'm done. I could (sic) care less what you're up to and have been for years. We just need to figure this out civilly.' Barry claimed he left home early on the morning of May 10 to go to work in the Colorado city of Broomfield, three hours from their home. He said that Suzanne was asleep in their bed, having told him she was planning a bike ride for her day. Investigators insist Suzanne had already been dead for hours at that point. Barry's phone entered and exited airplane mode several times over the next 24 hours, authorities said. The door of his truck was opened numerous times between 3.25am and 5am and was backed up into the home's garage at least once. Further arousing suspicion was Barry's activity in Broomfield. He claimed to have been on a landscaping job but spent a total of just 90 minutes on site and the rest in a cheap hotel room that cleaners reported stank of chlorine after he checked out. Barry was captured on surveillance making several trash runs at numerous locations around town, but appeared to be doing little work, police noted. Suzanne's disappearance was reported to police on the evening of May 10 - Mothering Sunday - after Macy and Mallory said they had been unable to contact their mother. Barry asked a neighbor to check on the house and then asked them to call the sheriff when the neighbor saw no trace of Suzanne. During a subsequent police interview, Barry claimed the couple's marriage was 'the best' and that they'd just had a 'wonderful weekend together.' But that was a lie; Suzanne had been having a two year affair with an old school friend called Jeff Libler and despised her husband, it is alleged. After cops began to search the property, they found Suzanne's bike abandoned down a steep embankment close to the family home. Police believe that scene was staged. Her helmet was discovered days later, roughly a mile away, at the side of a highway. The disappearance of an attractive, wealthy mother soon sparked a nationwide media frenzy. A tearful Barry even released a brief video appeal to the public asking for information. 'Suzanne, if anyone is out there that can hear this that has you, please, we'll do whatever it takes to bring you back,' Barry said. Meanwhile, a huge manhunt was launched, with authorities scouring rural terrain, diving in lakes, and deploying K9 units to find Suzanne - but there was no trace. When Barry was questioned by police two days after Suzanne disappeared, officers noted he had scratches on his hands and arms. A search of the Morphew home found a live .22 caliber bullet by Suzanne's bed, and a needle cap from a tranquilizer dart was found in the dryer, tangled up among washed bed sheets. Investigators also recovered empty tranquilizer darts, a needle used to inject tranquilizer chemicals into the darts, and a dart gun. Barry Morphew admitted to using a tranquilizer gun to shoot deer so he could harvest their horns, but said he was unsure how the cap got in the dryer, court records show. Barry, who owned a scruffy trailer park in Cave Creek, will now be extradited to the San Luis Valley in Colorado to face charges. His 'Stardust Trailer Park' billed itself a 'boutique community' offering short and long-term rentals, but had a dilapidated and depressing air when visited by in 2024. His daughters have yet to comment on the charges brought against their father. Suzanne's loved ones including her sister Melinda had previously condemned Barry over his alleged treatment of his wife and claimed Suzanne had feared for her safety. A friend called Sheila Oliver claimed Suzanne had complained of Barry shoving her into a closet and putting a gun to his head while screaming: 'Is this what you want?' 'Federal, State and local law enforcement have never stopped working toward justice for Suzanne,' Twelfth Judicial District Attorney Anne Kelly said Friday.
