Multiple suspected drones crash across Iraq amid heightened regional tensions

Iraqi News3 days ago

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – At least three separate incidents involving crashed drones or suspected drone parts were reported across Iraq on Thursday (June 19, 2025), raising concerns about violations of the country's airspace amid heightened regional tensions.
In Nineveh province, a security source reported that a drone, suspected to be of Iranian origin, crashed in an open area in the Al-Qaraj sub-district near Makhmour. Iraqi Army teams cordoned off the site and were preparing to detonate the wreckage remotely as a precaution.
Separately, in the Kurdistan Region, an unidentified drone crashed in an agricultural area in Dukan district, Sulaymaniyah, with no casualties reported. Local official Sirwan Sarhad confirmed that an investigation has been launched.
Meanwhile, in southern Iraq, 'war objects believed to be drones' were reported to have fallen near a cement factory in Muthanna province. Security forces and explosives experts were dispatched to the scene.
These incidents come as Iraq navigates the fallout from the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict, which has previously seen drone and missile remnants land in various parts of the country.
