Cairokee consists of lead vocalist Amir Eid, lead guitarist Sherif Hawary, drummer Tamer Hashem, keyboarder Sherif Mostafa, and bass guitarist Adam el-Alfy.
The band was founded in 2003 but rose to fame with its revolutionary music after the 2011 Revolution due to its politically inspired lyrics and protest songs released following the revolution.
They have been friends since they were children, and Hashem has been a drummer since school days. In 2003, Eid and Hawary had already started an English band, initially called 'The Black Star,' and started playing covers of English songs alongside an Egyptian song entitled 'Ghariba,' which was loved by their audiences.
The band's first major hit was 'Sout El Horeya,' which has millions of views on YouTube and was ranked a world record as one of the most-watched videos in the shortest period of time.
Their song 'Ya El Midan', featuring prominent Egyptian singer Aida el Ayoubi, who had previously retired in the 1990s, ranked number one on Facebook worldwide for downloads and number eight on YouTube with over half a million views on the video channel in just two days after its debut release.
Cairokee was mainly influenced by The Beatles and Pink Floyd.

Ezra Miller Is Considering Hollywood Return after 2-Year Hiatus
Yara Sameh Before Ezra Miller was spotted bolting down the red carpet at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival last month, he had largely remained out of the public eye for the past two years following a series of arrests. The actor recently said he was considering returning to Hollywood 'on tentative grounds' after his friend and "We Need to Talk About Kevin" (2011) director Lynne Ramsay 'Asked me to come' to Cannes in support of the world premiere of her film "Die My Love". 'I came to Cannes to support one of my closest friends in the world, who is Lynne Ramsay—who I think is one of the greatest living filmmakers,' Miller told Italian outlet Lo Speciale Giornale . 'I'm working with her again, that will likely be the first thing I do, is a film that her and I are writing together.' He added, 'I've been writing a lot, because you can do that in solitude, which has been friendly to me.' The "Flash" actor said Cannes was a 'tough re-entry point' after he was the subject of several incidents going back to 2020, including assault, harassment, burglary, and the alleged grooming of an 18-year-old, whose father withdrew the complaint last August. 'Not that I don't hold a lot of remorse and lamentation for a lot of things I did and a lot of things that happened in that time, but I'm really, really grateful for the lessons that came with that abyss,' Miller added. After a temporary harassment order was lifted against the "Fantastic Beasts" actor by a Massachusetts court following allegations that he behaved inappropriately around her 12-year-old child, he told Deadline he was 'very grateful' for the order, claiming that the woman was 'seeking attention or fleeting tabloid fame or some sort of personal vengeance.' 'I have been unjustly and directly targeted by an individual who the facts have shown has a history of such manipulative and destructive action,' Miller said in June 2023. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean

Egyptian Artist Wael Shawky Stages Exhibitions in Arles & Edinburgh
Wael Shawky's exhibitions in France and Scotland present newly commissioned and existing works that draw on myth, history, and sculpture across film and installation formats. Jun 23, 2025 Egyptian artist Wael Shawky is currently the subject of two large-scale exhibitions in Arles, France, and Edinburgh, Scotland, where new and existing works are being presented across film, sculpture, and installation. In Arles, the exhibition is housed inside a 5,000-square-metre former ironworks. At its centre is a constructed version of Mount Vesuvius, positioned within a theatrical indoor landscape. A film that blends Greek and Egyptian origin myths is screened at the end of an indoor street, bordered by kiosks filled with sculptural works in clay, bronze, and glass, including masks, jars, and animal forms. At Talbot Rice Gallery in Edinburgh, Shawky is showing 'The Secrets of Karbala' (2015), the third and final film in his 'Cabaret Crusades' trilogy. The two-hour film portrays the Crusades from the 12th to 13th centuries using glass marionettes produced by Murano artisans. The production involved a team of 300 and draws on Arabic historical texts to narrate the events from a different geographical lens. The use of glass puppets, chosen for their fragility, removes the need for human performance and emphasizes the sculptural qualities of the work. Both exhibitions feature a combination of historical reference, mythological narrative, and stylised production, with the Arles presentation incorporating newly commissioned elements.
