Leaders Honor Syama Prasad Mookerjee On 72nd Death Anniversary

Hans India3 hours ago

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior BJP leaders commemorated the 72nd death anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on June 23, 2025, honoring the founding president of Bharatiya Jana Sangh for his unwavering dedication to national unity.
Speaking on the occasion, PM Modi praised Mookerjee's exceptional bravery and determination in preserving India's territorial integrity. The Prime Minister emphasized that Mookerjee's contributions to nation-building continue to inspire reverence across the country.
Born in Calcutta in 1901, Mookerjee was a distinguished academic who transitioned into politics in Bengal during pre-independence India. Initially a member of the Hindu Mahasabha, he served in Prime Minister Nehru's first cabinet but resigned in 1950 due to ideological differences with Congress policies.
In 1951, Mookerjee collaborated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to establish the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, which later evolved into the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is regarded, alongside Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, as one of the BJP's foundational ideologists.
Mookerjee was particularly vocal about his opposition to Article 370, which provided special constitutional status to Jammu and Kashmir. He believed this provision hindered the region's complete integration with India and campaigned vigorously for its removal.
His principled stance led to his tragic death in 1953. Mookerjee deliberately entered Jammu and Kashmir without the required permit to protest the dual governance system. He was subsequently arrested and died in custody, becoming a martyr for the cause of national unity.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described Mookerjee as "a distinguished scholar, a great freedom fighter, and a visionary" who dreamed of 'Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat' (One India, Great India). He highlighted Mookerjee's role in shaping India's early industrial policies as the nation's first cabinet minister post-independence.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta honored Mookerjee at the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Park, noting how he "roared like a lion" and championed the slogan 'Ek Vidhan, Ek Samvidhan' (One Law, One Constitution).
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan reflected on the historical significance of Mookerjee's sacrifice, noting that it took 72 years for his vision to be realized. He emphasized that the Modi government's decision to abrogate Article 370 on August 5, 2019, was a fitting tribute to Mookerjee's enduring legacy and his belief in a truly unified India.
The minister stated that Mookerjee's fundamental principle - that a country cannot have two separate legal systems and remain truly united - continues to guide the BJP's ideology and India's path toward complete integration.

"Why are you wasting time on a quack?": Pawan Khera hits out at Nishikant Dubey for questioning Indira Gandhi over Shimla Agreement

Congress leader Pawan Khera on Monday slammed BJP MP Nishikant Dubey , who questioned former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi over the Shimla agreement . Pawan Khera called Nishikant Dubey a "quack" and urged the media not to pay attention to him. Taking a dig at Nishikant Dubey, the Congress leader said that he is not even a student from " WhatsApp University " but of "WhatsApp Nursery". Khera further asked Dubey to go to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and discontinue the Shimla Agreement. "Why are you (the media) wasting time on a quack? These are not even students of WhatsApp University but of WhatsApp nursery. Ask him to go to the PMO and tell them to discontinue the Simla Agreement. Why is he wasting time?", Pawan Khera told ANI. Earlier, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey targeted former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, alleging that she signed the Shimla Agreement between India and Pakistan under the pressure of the United States. Sharing a document of a Rajya Sabha debate on 'X', Nishikant Dubey questioned why Indian governed 5000 square mile territory was given to Pakistan by India's "iron lady".The BJP MP further queried why 57 Indian soldiers killed in Pakistan's jail dispute were returning the 93000 Pakistsoldiers, who had surrendered after the 1971 war. Live Events Nishikant Dubey mentioned that former Defence Minister Mahavir Tyagi had raised these questions, but former Indian PM Indira Gandhi left them unanswered. Earlier on Sunday, Nishikant Dubey slammed Rahul Gandhi , questioning the motives of the Congress leader to encourage learning English rather than local languages while also alluding to the "hypocrisy" of opposing the National Education Police (NEP) 2020 for language choice, stating that the 1986 NEP had similar goals. "Rahul Gandhi ji, your investigative advisor is hell bent on destroying you. This is the education policy of 1986 given by your father to the country. in this, your father is promising the country to promote Hindi, teach the Sanskrit language and translate English into regional languages. This same education policy is almost in place now. Students should also grow with regional languages, changes in this have been made by Prime Minister Modi ji in 2020," Dubey said in a post on X in Hindi.

Nilambur bypoll win not UDF's victory, says BJP leader P.K. Krishnadas

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national executive committee member P.K. Krishnadas on Monday dismissed the United Democratic Front's (UDF) bypoll victory in Nilambur as not a triumph for the Congress-led front, but for what he termed a 'terrorist organisation', Jamaat-e-Islami. 'This is not a victory for the UDF. It is a victory for Jamaat-e-Islami. The UDF and the LDF both witnessed a drop in their vote share, while the BJP-led front recorded an increase,' Mr. Krishnadas said at a press conference in Kannur. He alleged that both the major fronts secured votes based on caste equations and accused them of compromising with extremist elements. He said the BJP would soon launch a campaign across the State to expose the 'terrorist positions' and appeasement politics of both the UDF and LDF. 'We will take the truth to the people,' he said.

Shashi Tharoor Calls PM Modi "Prime Asset For India" In New Provocation For Congress

New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor - who led the ruling BJP's anti-terrorism diplomatic outreach to the United States, Brazil, and three other nations last month, after Operation Sindoor - has called for more support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "energy, dynamism and willingness to engage (with other countries)" and labelled it "a prime asset for India on the global stage". In an article published by The Hindu (paywalled) Monday morning, Mr Tharoor said the outreach - seven cross-party MP delegations visited 32 countries, including the US, the European Union and member nations, Saudi Arabia, and Russia - was "a moment of national resolve and effective communication (and) affirmed that India, when united, can project its voice with clarity and conviction..." He said the delegations explained the "calibrated and measured" nature of India's military response to the Pahalgam terror attack, underscored Pakistan's continued links to terrorism. He specifically referenced the crossover of Indian and Pak delegations in the US and said, "Even as a Pakistani delegation was simultaneously present, we found US representatives... echoing our concerns and urging decisive action against terror groups... our arguments, grounded in facts and consistent advocacy, were reinforcing the legitimacy of India's position." "We consistently highlighted the severity of the threat from across our borders, aiming to build global consensus to hold perpetrators accountable," he wrote, calling the outreach a success. Mr Tharoor was one a dozen opposition leaders who were part of these delegations; the list included high-profile figures like Mr Tharoor and others from the Congress, as well as AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, the Shiv Sena (UBT)'s Priyanka Chaturvedi, the DMK's Kanimozhi. The Thiruvananthapuram MP's selection increased friction between himself and his party; the two already have a frosty relationship over several issues, including continuing positive words for the PM. That friction has led to talk of a blockbuster political switch, i.e., the four-time Lok Sabha MP, who was also a former top United Nations official and a former External Affairs Minister, was preparing to jump from the Congress to Mr Modi's side. In fact, after news of his appointment to lead the US-bound delegation, arguably the most important of the seven, sections of the Congress called him a 'super spokesperson' for the BJP's 'publicity stunts' and accused of flattering Prime Minister Modi. However, Mr Tharoor has repeatedly dismissed talk of a switch, insisting he could not swap the Congress for the BJP. Speaking to NDTV last week he again played down any friction with the party, calling such incidents "differences of opinion... with only some elements of leadership". When NDTV asked him how he would define his relationship with the Congress today, Mr Tharoor pointed out he had been loyal to the party and its ideology for the last 16 years.
