Inaugural Strathaven Beer Festival draws in over 1000 revellers
Not even a downpour mid-way through could dampen the spirits of most beer enthusiasts, as the festival site stayed busy until the end.

Organised by the team behind the award-winning Eaglesham Beer Fest, the gathering showcased some of Scotland's best craft brewers and drinks brands.
It was supported by lip-smacking street food and fantastic live music, which kept Strathaven's hardy souls warm and entertained during the two bouts of rain.
Organiser Fraser Wilson told Lanarkshire Live: 'We are so grateful to the people of Strathaven for welcoming us into the town for the event, which we think was a roaring success.
'We had sold over 1100 briefs for our first event and over 85 per cent of those ticket holders attended - that doesn't include those who bought on the day, or children.
'For the most, we rode our luck and the weather was fine - sunny in parts, even. But at around 3.20pm there was an hour of pretty miserable rain and most people ran for cover, with a few calling it a day.'
But the bad weather couldn't stop the party, with live music from Zack Dale and Underdog keeping spirits up.
And those spirits went through the roof when teen-singing sensation Connor Fyfe had the large marquee rocking.
That was mirrored in the large Scout tent by John McLarnon, who made the most of his ad hoc staging to put on a fabulous singalong.
Let's Get Eclectic brought the house down with a superb DJ set, which sent revellers into the Strathaven evening to enjoy hospitality elsewhere.
Fraser added: 'We're really chuffed at how it went and are really keen to hear people's feedback.
'If it's something that people enjoyed, feel the town benefitted from and want to see return, then we'd be happy to look into Strathaven Beer Fest 2026.
"We want to say a huge thank you to the Strathaven business community, Scouts, Avondale Radio, and Balloon Festival team for their support during our preparations.'

Bereavement support charity for children hosts Eid celebration in Motherwell

The project's aim is to create a safe place for young people, and their carers to support BAME girls by encouraging community engagement and providing a space to have open conversations about mental health and wellbeing. 'The Miracle Foundation has become a beloved Motherwell charity offering invaluable services to young people across Lanarkshire. 'Charity founder Mariam Tariq and her incredible team have a relentless drive to help people in this community. 'The day was joyful and uplifting. It was an afternoon of celebration, connection, and community. 'My thanks go to the organisers, the performers, and the attendees for your energy and engagement. 'The Together We Thrive project is centred upon community participation. That was a perfect theme this for this event. If there are young people in Motherwell and Wishaw going through a difficult time, there are people who can help. 'The Miracle Foundation is dedicated to supporting individuals and families facing hardship. Whether it's providing practical help, emotional support, or simply being there when someone needs a hand, their work is a reminder of what community really means.' Veterans' charity to host Lanarkshire's first Armed Forces Family Fun Day
Who Dares Cares is a dedicated United Kingdom Armed Forces and blue light services charity Lanarkshire locals are being encouraged to support our veterans at the inaugural Armed Forces Family Fun Day. Organised by Who Dares Cares charity, the event at Calderglen Country Park in East Kilbride on Sunday, June 29, will support veterans and blue light services. Attractions on the day include military vehicles, pipe bands, an inflatable assault course, face painting, stalls, a DJ and music, military memorabilia and Police Scotland and Mountain Rescue will also be on hand to chat to visitors. The only thing we need now is the weather to be on our side! "Who Dares Cares is a veterans' charity. We are in East Kilbride quite a bit - a lot of the veterans come from East Kilbride so Calderglen was a good choice for this event. "It will be a family day for all, open to the public, and this will be the first event of its kind here in Lanarkshire. "There was nothing like the big Armed Forces Day parades you get in Glasgow here in Lanarkshire so this is how the idea came about." Who Dares Cares is a dedicated United Kingdom Armed Forces and blue light services charity based in Hamilton. Formed through Alba Military Fitness, the charity was founded by two former soldiers Colin MacLachlan, The Royal Scots & 22 SAS and Calum MacLeod, the King's Own Scottish Borderers. Both servicemen left the army, but for them the wars were not over. They decided to support other veterans too. Their mission is to support Armed Forces and blue light services personnel, including their families, who are suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Calum added: "In Lanarkshire alone there are 20,000 veterans. So the idea was to put on a family fun day to bring everyone together. "The charity started with four people and is now UK-wide and is heavily involved in various events throughout the year. We're just back from the West Highland Way with a group of veterans and we run a Walk - Talk - Brew mental health group every fortnight in Calderglen Country Park and at Strathclyde Country Park. "We're all volunteers who still have day jobs but the charity has just grown arms and legs. We were the first to do a walk and talk event for mental health and now it's evolved into something so much more." Miss Great Britain Glasgow finalist raises dementia awareness after gran's shock diagnosis
Jenna Kinnaird has been named a finalist in the glitzy ceremony which will take place in Larkhall's Radstone Hotel on June 20. A big-hearted accounts assistant from Hamilton is raising awareness of a cause close to her heart as she sets her sights on the Miss Great Britain Glasgow crown next week. Jenna Kinnaird, who volunteers for Kilbryde Hospice, has been named a finalist in the glitzy ceremony which will take place in Larkhall's Radstone Hotel on June 20. The stunning 20-year-old brunette will compete against dozens of other beauties for the coveted title for the chance to win a place in the Miss Great Britain national final in October. And while the former St John Ogilvie High School pupil says it would be a "dream" to win the contest, Jenna, who is competing for the second year in a row, is most proud to be raising awareness and funds for Dementia UK following her gran's shock diagnosis. Download the Lanarkshire Live app today She told Lanarkshire Live:"My gran was 71 when she diagnosed with dementia at Christmas last year. She had been working as a home carer for people with memory loss right up to when she was diagnosed. It was very fast moving as she was working at the start of the week, and by the end of the week she could no longer live alone. "It completely turned our lives upside down when her memory deteriorated. I knew I had to look into how the dementia affected my gran's capability to live alone and wanted to educate others on the whole process that comes with it and how it not only affects the older generation, but young people too. "My family and I never thought dementia would be something that we would have to deal with so soon. I knew I had to use my platform to let people know there is help out there." As well as taking part in a charity run for Hamilton Judo Club, Jenna was determined to raise funds for Dementia UK after her gran's sudden illness. Last month she held a quiz night at Giovanni's Italian Kitchen restaurant in her hometown which raised over £600. Shy and introverted as a child, Jenna says pageanting has given her the confidence to shine on stage and she can't wait to show the judges all the good work she has been doing for her local community in the lead up to the final. Jenna will compete in four rounds on pageant day in the hope of being crowned Miss Great Britain Glasgow: interview, swimwear, fashion and eveningwear. Jenna added: "I was always really shy and anxious as a child. In school I was quite quiet, very introverted. "I've always been more confident on social media and was approached by Miss Great Britain Glasgow via Instagram. I just went for it and it definitely built my confidence so much that I decided to do it again this year. "I'm so excited to take part in the finals. I'm excited to show the judges all the work that I've put in this year, compared to last year. "I love my community and I love helping out so I want to show that I'm prepared to make that time for others. With all the things I've done and the people I've met, I already have a feeling of proudness. I'm getting to go up on that stage and show everything I've done which I feel really good about." She continued: "And raising money and awareness for a charity so close to my heart, it does already feel like I've won. It's everyone's dream to win, but I'd be so happy for any of the other girls to win as we've became such good friends, it's so nice to see. "My family are over the moon - they're my biggest supporters. And I don't drive so they're my taxi rides here, there and everywhere!
