Jameela Jamil describes herself as a 'failure pervert'
Jameela Jamil has described herself as a "failure pervert".
The 39-year-old actress - who landed her first DJ gig at Sir Elton John's 63rd birthday party with no experience, and was cast in her first acting role in The Good Place - insisted she prefers to "jump in and try" rather than waiting for the right time.
She told The Times newspaper: 'I don't wait to be perfect before I jump in and try. To do it my way I'm willing to accept that if it fails, it's my fault.
"I think I'm a failure pervert. I really run at it in a way that feels nearly deliberate. That's where the colour in life exists.
"It's where the funniest stories come from. It's where the most interesting people are chiselled.'
However, Jameela pointed out that while she isn't full of self-confidence, that in turn makes her "immune to being judged".
She explained: 'Nobody could possibly think less of me than me. If anything, when people compliment me it feels jarring.
'It makes me untouchable and quite dangerous. I'm immune to being judged. Because I don't care.'
Jameela noted that she also doesn't expect to be liked by other people, which mirrors her own outlook.
She quipped: "I don't personally like that many people, so I think it's ridiculous for me to expect other people to like me."
Meanwhile, the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law star pointed out that she often mistook boredom for social anxiety.
She said: 'I used to think I was socially anxious, but actually I was just bored.
'When I meet someone for the first time I'm not thinking, 'Do they like me?' — I'm wondering if I like them.
"It's probably quite uncharitable but I don't feel an urge to perform for anyone.'
Jameela recently admitted she had just $17 left in her bank account when she was cast as Tahani Al-Jamil in Mike Schur's sitcom The Good Place, which was set in the afterlife.
She "ran out of money" after leaving the BBC Radio 1 Cart Show in 2016, and decided she "wanted to be a writer and a DJ", before joining her then-musician-partner on tour
Appearing on David Tennant Does a Podcast With..., she said: "I ran out of money and so I said, 'Please can I have a job, any job, I will do anything.'
"I was so desperate for money at that point. I had $17 left in my bank account. I was real keen. But instead I was handed a bunch of auditions."
Among those opportunities was a Las Vegas magic show, and what became her role in 'The Good Place'.
She added: "I went to the audition, just very much so not thinking anything was going to come of it. I got both the magic show and Mike Schur and I had to make a choice. You weren't allowed to do both."

Jordan Stephens is 'super in love' with Jade Thirlwall
Jordan Stephens and Jade Thirlwall are still "super in love" after five years together. The Rizzle Kicks star has opened up about his relationship with former Little Mix singer revealing they are still incredibly happy together after they started dating back in 2020. He told The Times newspaper: "I've been with my girlfriend, Jade, for five years and we are super in love. She's solo now but she was in Little Mix ... My mum obviously loves her too." Jordan also opened up about his past battles with drug abuse revealing he's been sober since 2018 and now he treats himself to a pastry if he's feeling down instead of turning to illegal substances like he did after shooting to fame as a teenager. He said: "Becoming famous so suddenly at 19 was a shock. It was positive in a hedonistic way but I wish I could have felt more present ... "I went sober in 2018. I was heartbroken; I had cheated and my relationship was over. I spoke to my mum about having suicidal thoughts ... " He added: "Now if I'm going through something my spirals are filled with croissants not cocaine." Jordan has been supporting Jade since she launched a solo music career after Little Mix parted ways, and she gave him a special mention when she accepted her first solo BRIT Award earlier this year. Jade has previous credited the musician with being her biggest supporter as he helps her whenever she has feelings of self doubt. According to The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column, Jade said: "Something that Jordan taught me, whenever I'm feeling anxious or my self-saboteur is coming out, Jordan is always like, 'Just think of Little Jade, and look at what you've achieved. "'Little Jade from South Shields has done this? That's crazy'. That's always stuck with me. I have words of affirmation in my bedroom and one of them says, 'Little Jade is really proud of you'. "Any time I feel like s*** that really gets me through." Jade explained that Jordan's words of encouragement have helped her just as much as self-help books. She said: "I feel like you read every self-help book, you have therapy, you speak to people but sometimes you forget about yourself. "You forget that there was a little version of yourself and if they were watching what you've done with your life now they would be like, 'Oh my gosh, I never thought I could achieve this'."

Dita Von Teese wouldn't want to 'expose' some people in her memoir
Dita Von Teese wants to pen an autobiography - but she doesn't want to "expose" some people's "f****** s***". The 52-year-old burlesque star was married to controversial rocker Marilyn Manson - who police decided not to pursue criminal charges against, after he escaped criminal charges following a four-year investigation into allegations he was an abuser - and Dita has insisted there are people she wouldn't want to write about should she put pen to paper. Dita - who is starring in Diamonds and Dust on London's West End this month - told The Times newspaper: 'I want to write an autobiography. 'I just want to make sure I get it all right, because I think there's a lot of stuff people don't really know about me.' Asked if she would be as candid as Ione Skye in her memoirs, in which she spilled all on her romances with John Cusack and the late Matthew Perry, she replied: 'I don't know. 'There are some people who I don't want to expose their f****** s***.' Dita - who has been with her current partner, graphic designer Adam Rajcevich, since 2014 - admits everyone she knows has a MeToo story, herself included. She said of the movement 'My male friends, when all the MeToo stuff was happening, were like, 'Did anything like that ever happen to you?' And I'm like, 'Yeah!' 'Every single friend I have has a story. Like, everybody has a story, and you were just expected to go along with it or just laugh it off, you know?' The MeToo movement was sparked in 2017 in the wake of The New York Times and The New Yorker exposing the sexual abuse allegations against jailed Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. Dita insisted she was not subjected to abuse during her relationship and marriage to Manson, insisting they divorced due to "infidelity and drug abuse". In a statement about the allegations made against her ex, Dita said at the time: "I have been processing the news that broke Monday regarding Marilyn Manson. "To those who have expressed your concerns of my well-being, I appreciate your kindness. "Please know that the details made public do not match my personal experience during our 7 years together as a couple. "Had they, I would not have married him in December 2005. I left 12 months later due to infidelity and drug abuse." She continued: "Abuse of any kind has no place in any relationship. I urge those of you who have incurred abuse to take steps to heal and the strength to fully realize yourself. Dita concluded: "This is my sole statement on this matter. Thank you for respecting this request."

Monty Python's Eric Idle hospitalised for second time in three days
Eric Idle was hospitalised for the second time in three days this week. The Monty Python legend suspects he has Gastroenteritis - inflammation of the stomach and intestines, typically caused by a viral or bacterial infection - and thanked the medical staff at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai for their "kindness and help". He penned to X on Monday (16.05.25): "So I'd like to thank all the doctors nurses and staff in the Cedars GI ward for their kindness and help to me today. The second time in three days. I think I'm suffering from Gastroenteritis. I love you people." Last year, Idle admitted he "shouldn't be alive". The 82-year-old comedian underwent surgery after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2019, and was thankful the disease was caught early as he now enjoys "every moment" of his life. Asked if having cancer had changed him, he told The Times newspaper: 'Oh, I shouldn't be alive. I'm a lucky b****** and I enjoy every moment.' He initially thought his doctor was joking when he broke the news of his diagnosis. He said: 'I had been working on a project called 'Death: The Musical' and I asked my doctor which type of cancer I could use to finish off one of my characters. He said, 'Pancreatic cancer, it can finish people off in three weeks.'' Ten years later, Eric had routine tests with the same doctor and queried an ominous-looking blood result. The British-born funnyman added: 'He said, 'Pancreatic cancer' and I burst out laughing because I thought he must be joking."
