Mass transfer of Panaji booth-level officers stayed

An order for the mass transfer of booth level officers (BLOs) of the Panaji assembly constituency was on Friday kept in abeyance by the office of the deputy collector, sub-divisional officer, and sub-divisional magistrate until further orders.

'The earlier booth level officers shall be retained, and the necessary changes be made in the ERONET system,' the order stated.
'The BLOs concerned, who joined services as per the order dated April 17, 2025, shall forthwith report back to their parent offices. The head offices/departments of the offices concerned are requested to take note of the same,' the order stated.
It further directed heads of the departments not to relieve the BLOs.
The North Goa collector, who is also the district electoral officer, stated that an inquiry was ordered under the charge of additional collector-I, North Goa, into the mass transfer of BLOs from the Panaji assembly constituency.
Elvis Gomes, earlier this month, complained about irregularities in the enrolment of voters in the Panaji constituency, alleging foreign nationals, even Nepali citizens, and people not residing in Goa were being enrolled into the electoral roll.
Gomes also complained about the mass transfer of booth level officers of the Panaji constituency.
The office of the chief electoral officer has refuted allegations of irregularities with regard to voter enrolment.

The gesture, part of India's Operation Sindhu, underscores the robust and enduring partnership between the two nations, as the Foreign Ministry of Sri Lanka stated in a post on X on Saturday. 'Sri Lanka extends its sincere gratitude to the Government of India for the timely assistance to evacuate Sri Lankan nationals from Iran alongside Indian citizens,' the post read. 'This act of solidarity exemplifies the strong and enduring partnership between Sri Lanka and India and is deeply appreciated by the people of Sri Lanka,' it added. Earlier on Saturday, the Indian Embassy in Iran said that it had made efforts to evacuate citizens of Nepal and Sri Lanka and noted that the efforts were made at the request of the Governments of Nepal and Sri Lanka. 'On request of the Governments of Nepal and Sri Lanka, the Indian Embassy's evacuation efforts in Iran will also cover Citizens of Nepal and Sri Lanka,' the Indian Embassy in Iran posted on X. The Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka had also issued a notice to the Sri Lankan nationals in Iran for the evacuation. 'Notice to Sri Lankan Nationals in Iran. In a post on X, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated, 'Operation Sindhu gains momentum. 290 Indian nationals have returned home safely from Iran on a special flight from Mashhad that landed in New Delhi at 2330 hrs on 21 June 2025.' 'With this, 1,117 Indian nationals have been evacuated from Iran,' the MEA added. The conflict between Israel and Iran entered its ninth day on Saturday. The conflict started after Israel, on June 13, launched a massive airstrike on Iranian military and nuclear sites, dubbed 'Operation Rising Lion'. In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a large-scale drone and missile operation, 'Operation True Promise 3', targeting Israeli fighter jet fuel production facilities and energy supply centres. 1,100 Indians back from Iran, 800 more seek evacuation

The number of evacuees, in fact, was expected to exceed 1,100 with 300 more scheduled to arrive in a special flight around midnight. Govt sources said that 600 more Indians are expected to arrive from Iran on Sunday in two separate flights. At the start of the latest flare-up between Iran and Israel, there were 10,000 Indian nationals in Iran, out of which 6,000 were students. "About 800 are willing to be evacuated.
