Chicago's Michelada Fest has been canceled for 2025—and yes, politics are involved

Time Out12-05-2025

Thousands of concertgoers have flocked to the city over the last seven years for Michelada Fest, also known as Miche Fest, a lively cultural celebration that began in Pilsen as a street festival and has evolved into a massive multi-day musical showcase full of live music and the titular beer cocktail (also known as the Mexican Bloody Mary). This year, due to growing apprehension around the current state of American politics, the festival has been canceled.
In a letter to the community posted on the official festival website, the Miche Fest team said: 'Due to the uncertainty surrounding artist visas and the rapidly changing political climate, we're no longer able to guarantee the full experience we had dreamed up for you with all your favorite artists. Although we tried to push through, it became clear that we wouldn't be able to deliver the full lineup as planned.'
Full refunds have been issued to ticketholders—the event was scheduled to take place on July 19 and 20 at Oakwood Beach, with headliners including Grupo Firme, Danny Ocean, Anitta and Luis R. Conriquez set to perform—as well as regrets. "This was not an easy decision for us to make. For seven years, we've poured everything into this festival to create something truly special for our community. Last year was our most incredible celebration yet, and we were ready to make this year even bigger, with more energy, creativity, and corazón,' the organizers' statement continued. "But as independent organizers, we can't afford to take on a big risk with so much uncertainty ahead.
The team acknowledged that canceling the festival will greatly impact not only local vendors and small businesses, but also, the artists who were slated to perform and the many community partners that were supporting the two-day festival.
'We're heartbroken by the greater impact this will have on our involved community, with ripple effects reaching our neighborhoods, local economy and the culture we've built together,' organizers said. 'But despite this setback, we remain committed to our values. Michelada Fest will always be a safe place where our community comes together, united by pride and love of our culture and music. That won't ever change. We'll keep showing up, giving back, and uplifting our people in every way we can.'

Fans convinced Valtteri Bottas has new job as Lewis Hamilton's former F1 team-mate posts cryptic social media updates

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) EX-FORMULA ONE star Valtteri Bottas has left fans convinced he has landed a new job after a pair of cryptic social media posts. The Finn lost his F1 seat with Sauber at the end of the 2025 season and now operates as the Mercedes team reserve driver. 7 Valtteri Bottas has convinced fans he will land a new job in F1 after some cryptic social media posts Credit: X 7 Bottas was seen wearing a cowboy hat before spotting a topical car brand Credit: X 7 His cameraman pointed to the Cadillac symbol at the front of the car Credit: X 7 Bottas remarked it was a 'nice seat' as he touched the driver's seat Credit: X 7 The Finn then commented how there were two seats free Credit: X 7 Bottas was then asked if he wanted to drive it, to which he said, 'Not yet' Credit: X However, Lewis Hamilton's old team-mate has been linked with reclaiming a spot on the grid when the paddock expands to accommodate Cadillac as the 11th F1 team for 2026. And to that end, Bottas has left fans thinking an announcement over his future is imminent after he appeared to tease a partnership with the US luxury car manufacturer. Taking to social media, Bottas first shared a pair of snaps of himself at a pool table wearing a cowboy-style hat at Silver City Aspen in Colorado. But it was his second post which really got fans talking. READ MORE IN F1 HORROR SMASH Racing driver rushed to hospital after car flips in terrifying crash While out on a stroll, Bottas' cameraman, Paul Ripke, pointed out a car ahead of them, before highlighting it was a Cadillac. Having opened the door of the car, Ripke remarks: "That's a nice seat." The 35-year-old then goes and touches the seat, saying: "Oh wow, that's actually a nice seat." After a moment of looking inside the car, Ripke notes: "And there's two seats." BEST ONLINE CASINOS - TOP SITES IN THE UK Bottas looks and then looks at Ripke, saying: "And they're both free." He is then asked if he wants to sit in it, to which he replies: "Not yet." Bottas is one of the favourites to land one of the two new seats which will be up for grabs at the team next season, and would represent a wealth of experience with 246 race starts to his name, including 10 wins and 19 poles. And taking to the comments of Bottas' post, fans now believe an announcement could be coming soon, with one saying: "A code?" A second said: "Are you saying what I think you're saying, without saying it?" A third added: "That means what I think that means?" Another said: "Please lord, I don't ask for much!" A fifth said: "Yeah he's back for 26 isn't he lol." Bottas is, of course, known to be very cheeky with his social media activity, so the tease should be taken with a pinch of salt for the time being. Besides, he is facing stiff competition from the likes of Sergio Perez, who was axed by Red Bull in 2024. Motorsport icon and ex-F1 world champion Mario Andretti - one of the directors of the new team - has already confirmed the team were looking at the Mexican driver to take one of the seats. Speaking to Fox Sports in May, he said: "All I can tell you is that he's [Perez] certainly one of the drivers that's being considered. He has to be. "I cannot divulge as to where we are with any commitment whatsoever — I think we want to keep that luxury to ourselves until we feel that we have scanned the entire spectrum of availability. I think that's a prudent thing to do." Other drivers who have been linked include Mick Schumacher, Zhou Guanyu, Alex Palou, and Colton Herta. The next F1 race will commence in Austria next weekend off the back of a double Mercedes podium in Canada, which saw George Russell take the win ahead of Max Verstappen and rookie team-mate Kimi Antonelli.

Leave Me Alone

Located at the edge of trendy Shimokitazawa, Leave Me Alone is a space of esoteric contradiction. The softly lit venue is sparsely yet tastefully decorated, with a custom smiling flower portrait from the iconic Takashi Murakami, plus dolls created by Mr., the noted Kaikai Kiki artist. The venue is the latest venture from corporate-bigwig-turned-bar-owner Hirohisa Tamonoki. The forty-something former tech VIP from Akita prefecture opened the bar at the end of 2024, finally fulfilling 'a dream he'd left behind' after decades in the corporate world. A self-proclaimed introvert, Tamonoki aimed to create a space for people like himself who never quite fit in. He also wants to attract individuals with a passion for the music genre that reigns supreme at his bar: noise. From the disorienting percussive sounds of Japanese noise legend Merzbow to the abrasive vocals of American experimental rock band Swans, you'll get your fill of sonic brutality through track after track of harsh noise, industrial noise, noise rock and so on. The harshness of the bar's soundtrack is in contrast to the intimate nature of the space, but somehow it works. 'It's not for everybody,' says Tamonoki. 'But if you get it, you get it.' The bar's drink options are less eclectic (but no less tasty), and feature various kinds of whiskey and gin – think classics like Hakushu, Hibiki, Sakurao and Kanomori. A speciality cocktail menu is in the works and currently features mezcal negronis and seasonal fruit gin and tonics. Invitations to Leave Me Alone are strictly through DM only. If noise music is your thing and you're thinking of stopping by, request the location by contacting the bar via Instagram @leave_me_alone_bar.

Love Island fans accuse Helena of hiding true motives as her 'insecurity' shows

Love Island's Helena has been slammed online by fans as 'insecure' as they 'work out' her real game plan and say her 'main personality trait' is putting 'other girls down' Love Island's Helena has been slammed by fans after the latest instalment of the reality show, as fans claim they have worked out her game plan and said her 'main personality trait' is putting 'other girls down', following a chat with the latest Bombshell, Harrison. Helena, 29, was getting to know Harry, 30, however, their relationship came tumbling down after he kissed Yasmin three times in the hideaway and then lied about it. The blonde beauty is now opening herself up to Harrison, but fans aren't pleased with their conversation. ‌ Helena and Harrison were seen having a cosy chat in the pool together when Helena brought up his other interest, American girl Toni, 24. Helena said Toni was "marking her territory" with Harrison and said she feels like Toni doesn't like it when she talks to Harrison. ‌ Fans rushed to express their opinions on X, as one person wrote: 'Helena's main personality trait is putting other girls down. And she has the audacity to call THEM boring', while another added: 'Helena's chat is literally just talking down other girls'. A third added: 'I'm seeing a very nasty pattern with Helena…..', while another said: "Can we get a compilation of Helena talking shit about the girls behind their backs on movie night please'. Helena's flirty conversation was followed by another game in the villa, which is proving to be very dramatic this year. The islanders were tasked with a game of spin the bottle, which saw chaos erupt in the villa. The Islanders were faced with telling truths and dares. Conor, who is currently getting to know Emily, got a dare to put the person he thinks is best in bed in his "most favourite sex position", and he chose Megan. ‌ Conor got her to lie on her tummy on the floor and declared his favourite position to be "speed bumps", before he hovered above her and said: "Pump'. Megan's partner Tommy shook his head disapproving of the actions. Emily then said: "If he carries on, he'll never find out how I am in bed." Elsewhere in the episode, fans showed real concern for Alima as they pointed out her lack of airtime and questioned if she had gone missing.
