Five ways to keep your kids cool in the heat
IT can be really difficult - and costly - to keep kids cool when it's hot outside. But Fabulous Digital Senior Reporter and mum-of-two Sarah Bull shares five ways to help, and they won't break the budget either.
Strip them off
It might sound simple, but stripping kids off at home can really help them regulate their temperature when it's warm outside. Just remember to regularly apply suncream, as more of their skin will be exposed to the sun.
Cool down bedrooms before nighttime
When it's hot outside, it can be difficult for kids to go to sleep - especially if their bedroom feels like an oven. If you have a room that's not in direct sunshine, keep the windows open to let in a breeze. It's also a good idea to keep the curtains closed, to prevent the room from heating up.
Wear a hat
Another simple technique, but one that really works. Make sure that if your kids are playing outside, they've got a hat on. It keeps their face and head shielded from the sun, and also helps if you've got a little one who struggles with bright sunlight. If your tot struggles to keep a hat on, try one with a strap that goes under the chin to help.
Avoid the car
The car can be one of the hottest places during a heatwave, and often takes a long time to cool down. If you have the option, it's better to stay at home rather than taking kids out anywhere in a hot car.
Stay hydrated
This is always important, but even more so in a heatwave. Make sure you're regularly reminding your kids to have a drink, and top them up with cool liquids whenever you can. Use ice too to ensure it's as cold as it can possibly be.
However, whilst we all love the sun, it can make us feel a little sticky and sweaty especially when trying to sleep at night.
And we tested fans to keep you cool in the summer – the winner costs 1p an hour to run.
Finally, from buying better bedding to keeping your PJs ON – here all the surprising ways to keep cool at night in a heatwave.

Halifax to quietly axe key perk that could see you win £100,000 – and customers will be fuming

Plus we share how savers can be entered into draws to win thousands of pounds IN IT TO WIN IT IN IT TO WIN IT Halifax to quietly axe key perk that could see you win £100,000 – and customers will be fuming Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) HALIFAX is stopping its popular Savers Prize Draw - which gives customers the chance to win up to £100,000 every month. The competition has been a key perk for savers since it launched in 2011, but the final draw is to take place in September this year. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 1 Halifax is getting rid of its savers prize draw in September Credit: Getty Each month there are three prizes of £100,000, 100 prizes of £1,000 and 1,500 of £100. To be in with a chance, you have to keep £5,000 or more in a qualifying account for a month, and be registered to take part. There has also sometimes been a 'superdraw' with a much higher top prize, including one of £500,000. Halifax customers were today told the draw would be closing in a message sent out on the bank's messaging service. It said: 'Our Savers Prize Draw is coming to an end. Before it closes, you'll automatically be entered into the remaining prize draws if you qualify. 'We'll let winners know within one month of the draw taking place, so it's a good idea to make sure your contact details are up to date.' A spokesperson for Lloyds Banking Group told The Sun: "Our customers' expectations continue to change, and we are taking the opportunity to look at how we can reward customers in different ways in the future. "Our Savers' prize draw has made a huge difference to thousands of customers, with over £100million awarded since our first draw in 2011" The draw was popular because it gave people the chance of winning big money without the risk of losing anything, although the odds were unclear. It also meant missing out on savings accounts run by other banks with higher interest rates. Fresh wave of bank branches set to close for good in June If you like the idea of being in with a chance of winning a decent cash prize, without buying tickets, an alternative is buying Premium Bonds, which work in a similar way. Every £1 saved into Premium Bonds has a one in 22,000 chance of winning something, with the maximum prize being £1million every month. WHAT BANKS OFFER SIMILAR SERVICE There are plenty of other banks which offer similar services for customers. For example, the Association of British Credit Unions runs a PrizeSaver draw for customers. Credit unions are not-for-profit organisations offering local people or selected industries loans and savings accounts. You can take part if you're a member of a credit union linked to the scheme. Find out more about participating unions at You only need £1 to enter the draw and balances are capped at £200. Elsehwere, Kent Reliance runs a monthly prize draw for customers with savings of £100 or more, or with a mortgage account balance of £1,000 or more. It is one entry per person. If a joint account, then the first named account holder will be entered into the draw.

Best-selling car brand AXES plans to turn all EV as it ditches 2033 deadline & vows to keep making petrol motors

Previous plans for the company were to end development of internal combustion engines next year, with £23.9 billion worth of investment. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 1 The Audi Q8 e-tron was the brand's new electric flagship which started production in 2022 Credit: AFP There is now no fixed plan for German car manufacturer, Audi, that initially hinted at launching no new ICE cars from 2026. CEO Gernot Döllner told Autocar he was not involved in communicating the end date, and that decisions were taken by previous management. Speaking about the decision to revoke the deadline, Döllner suggested his belief in "flexibility" was behind it. This includes flexibility around Audi's high performance RS models, with potential for them to become gas-powered. "Audi is launching from 2024-2026 a completely new line-up of internal combustion engine and plug-in hybrid vehicles, and that gives us complete flexibility for at least another seven, eight, maybe 10 years, and then we will see how our markets develop. "We have already decided to extend the production beyond the communicated end dates of the past." The manufacturer is expected to see a greater focus on developing hybrid technology, which they see as a bridge to EVs. New short-term plans therefore include a new lineup of gas-powered vehicles to be rolled out next year. Döllner also confirmed development of all Volkswagen Group hardware and software architectures would be lead by Audi, hoping for larger models in the future. On top of that, the next-generation SSP platform in development would see the Group move to "software-defined" vehicles to hit the market for the first time in late 2027 or 2028. Audi launches NEW superfast charging hybrid with eye-watering price Audi will still direct R&D money towards it's all-electric vehicle strategy. There is an all-electric A3-sized model reported to be in development for 2026. However, complete abandonment of gas-powered Audis is not expected any time soon. It is also unlikely Audi would create its own version of an entry-level electric car as has been done by Volkswagen, Skoda or Cupra, Döllner revealed. The Sun have contacted Audi for comment about the change in plans.
