Assembly Bypoll Result Live: The Congress-led UDF candidate Aryadan Shoukath has won the Nilambur assembly by-poll in Kerala by 10,928 votes. The poll panel said Shoukath defeated M Swaraj, the candidate of the ruling CPI(M), on Monday.
Shoukath is the son of late Congress stalwart Aryadan Muhammed, while Swaraj is a state secretariat member of the CPI(M).
Shoukath said the outcome was expected. "It was a victory anticipated by the people of Kerala - a major win against the LDF government," he said.
Counting for the assembly bypolls held in five constituencies in four states - Gujarat, Kerala, West Bengal and Punjab - began on Monday. Two assembly bypolls were held in Gujarat, one each in Kerala, West Bengal, and Punjab, on June 19.
In Gujarat, Aam Aadmi Party candidate Gopal Italia is currently leading in Gujarat's Visavadar assembly seat with a margin of 4,181 votes, after the 10th round of counting, against the BJP's candidate Kirit Patel.
In Gujarat's Kadi seat, BJP's Rajendra Chavda is ahead with 12,701 votes while Congress' Ramesh Chavda was trailing with 6,949 votes.
AAP candidate Sanjeev Arora was leading with a margin of 2,286 votes against his nearest rival and Congress nominee Bharat Bhushan Ashu from the Ludhiana West assembly seat in Punjab. After six of the 14 rounds of counting, Arora had polled 14,486 votes and Ashu 12,200 votes.
Though Arora maintained the overall lead, Ashu led the fourth, fifth and sixth rounds of counting. The bypoll was necessitated following the death of AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi in January.
The Trinamool Congress was leading by over 19,000 votes in the by-election to the Kaliganj assembly seat in West Bengal's Nadia district even as counting was underway on Monday.
It was a victory anticipated by the people of Kerala - a major win against the LDF government.
After seven rounds of counting, TMC candidate Alifa Ahamed secured 32,308 votes, while her nearest rival, Congress candidate Kabil Uddin Shaikh, backed by the CPI(M), bagged 13,144 votes. BJP nominee Ashis Ghosh was trailing in the third position, securing 11,987 votes, election officials said.

Minister Ponnam Prabhakar questions Kavitha's credibility on BC issues
Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar questioned the credibility of BRS MLC K. Kavitha to speak on Backward Classes (BC) issues after what he termed a decade of neglect during the BRS regime. Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan along with MLC Dayakar, he asked, 'Did Ms. Kavitha ever raise her voice for BCs when BRS was in power? If not, what moral right does she now have.' 'From CM Revanth Reddy to TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, every leader in the Cabinet is clear in their resolve. The Congress is working with sincerity and not giving political colour to this issue,' he said. He said Mr. Revanth Reddy was correcting the decade-long neglect of the BRS and the BC bill, aiming at securing socio-political empowerment was an indication of it.

Trinamool Congress's Alifa Ahmed wins Kailganj bypoll, defeats BJP's Ashish Ghosh
Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Alifa Ahmed has won the Kaliganj Assembly bypoll in West Bengal's Nadia district by a massive margin of 50,049 votes, defeating her nearest BJP rival, Ashish Ghosh. The by-election was held following the death of her father and former MLA Nasiruddin Ahmed in February this to the Election Commission of India (ECI), Alifa secured 1,02,759 votes, while BJP's Ashish Ghosh received 52,710 votes. The Congress-Left-supported candidate, Kabil Uddin Shaikh, came third with 28,348 Alifa received around 9,000 votes less than her father's 1,11,696 votes in 2021, her winning margin increased. Nasiruddin had won by 46,987 votes in the last election, whereas Alifa surpassed that, seemingly due to a split in votes between BJP and Congress-Left candidates. Outside the counting centre, Alifa thanked voters for their support. She said, "This victory is because of people's love and faith in Mamata Banerjee's development politics."Responding to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari's claim that Hindus didn't vote for TMC, Alifa said, 'I do not agree. We received significant leads from some Hindu-majority areas.'She added, 'We did not target votes from any particular community. We approached all voters.
