Lebanon Just Won A Global Hacking Competition

The 96110-06-2025

At the first-ever Cyber Games 2025 in Malaysia, a Lebanese-led team absolutely crushed the competition, scoring 1st place out of 50 countries.
Yes, you read that right. Lebanon came first, beating out cybersecurity talent from across the world.
The winning team, Team Blue, was led by Assem Awad, a Lebanese cybersecurity expert who guided his team through four intense days of hacking challenges, digital investigations, and cybercrime simulations.
Lebanon has come close before when we placed second at GISEC, but this is the first time ever we took home the gold. And it's a huge win for Lebanese talent on a global stage.
Over 140 participants, from 50 different countries, were brought together to fight simulated cybercrime in Kuala Lumpur.
Over the course of four days, they tackled real-world cyber challenges – things like:
Tracing cryptocurrency used in crimes
Digging into ransomware attacks
Analyzing digital evidence
Identifying attackers using open-source tools
Basically, it was like a global cyber detective movie. And Team Lebanon was the lead.
Here are the winners:
1st Place: Team Blue (Lebanon)
Team Blue (Lebanon) 2nd Place: Team TSIX (Ukraine)
Team TSIX (Ukraine) 3rd Place: Team FFFFFFirewalls (Bosnia & Herzegovina)
This win puts Lebanon on the map in a space we're not often recognized for – cyber. It proves we've got some serious brainpower ready to take on real global challenges.

You Can Now Use Whish Pay At Shopify Stores

Lebanon's own Whish Money just took a major step forward in regional e-commerce. The fintech company has officially launched Whish Pay on Shopify, making it the first cardless checkout option for Lebanese on the e-commerce platform. The move makes online payments faster, simpler, and fully cashless – giving businesses and shoppers a smoother way to buy and sell online. A move that will increase conversion rates for stores. 'This integration is a game-changer for regional e-commerce,' said Toufic Koussa, Co-Founder and CEO of Whish Money. 'Whish Pay on Shopify empowers merchants with a frictionless checkout experience, eliminating pain points and giving entrepreneurs real tools to grow online.' With Whish Pay, Shopify merchants can now offer a direct wallet-to-wallet payment option – no cards, no cash, no waiting. Payments are settled instantly, there are no chargebacks to worry about, and the fee structure is designed to support growth, not hold it back. Merchants on Shopify also gain access to Whish Money's existing user base of over 1 million customers in the region, giving them a much wider reach without needing extra integrations or third-party tools. 'Whish Pay on Shopify marks a huge step for digital commerce in our part of the world,' said Jad Fakhani, better known online as Wolfofbey. 'It allows local businesses to scale faster and compete globally, while keeping payments simple and secure.' While cash and cards still dominate most online checkouts in the region, Whish is pushing for something faster. Their goal is a fully digital, cardless, and instant checkout experience that works just as well for new startups as it does for big platforms. Whish Pay's Shopify launch opens up access to even more businesses looking for faster ways to sell online – without relying on traditional banking or slow transfers.
