The 2025 James Beard Awards have named the best restaurants and chefs in America
It's official: It's time to update your restaurant bucket list. That's because you've got a fresh crop of James Beard Award winners to eat and drink your way through. Following the Padma Lakshmi-hosted James Beard Foundation Media Awards over the weekend, food's biggest night — i.e. the James Beard Foundation Restaurant and Chef Awards — took place yesterday, June 16, at the Lyric Opera in Chicago, with Nyesha Arrington and Andrew Zimmern acting as the masters of ceremony and announcing this year's illustrious class of winners.
And an exciting group they are — for the first time this year, the awards body gave extra recognition to excellency across cocktail and bar culture with three new categories, handing out golden honors for Best New Bar (to Identidad Cocktail Bar in San Juan, Puerto Rico), Outstanding Professional in Beverage Service (to Arjav Ezekiel from Birdie's in Austin, TX) and Outstanding Professional in Cocktail Service (to Ignacio Jimenez of New York City drinks den Superbueno).
As for the biggies — that would be Best New Restaurant, Outstanding Chef and Outstanding Restaurant — those honors were nicely dispersed among culinary talents from across the country. Bûcheron, a French-American stunner in Minneapolis, Minnesota, was named Best New Restaurant, while Outstanding Restaurant was awarded to Frasca Food and Wine in Boulder, Colorado, a favorite for its refined Northern Italian plates and top-shelf wines.
And continuing a dominant streak by New York's food scene — New York City won five of its seven nominations this year, a bit of redemption after being completely shut out from the major categories last year — the Outstanding Chef Award went to Jungsik Yim, who helms the three-Michelin-starred "New Korean" dining room Jungsik in New York City.

Alan Cumming to receive honorary degree from University of St Andrews
Actor Alan Cumming is to receive an honorary degree from the University of St Andrews during a week of graduations for students from almost 90 countries. More than 2,200 students will gather at the University of St Andrews from June 30 for summer graduation ceremonies. Graduates from 88 different countries, including Canada, Australia and Nepal will receive their awards in the Younger Hall from June 30 to July 4. The graduation ceremony season will include nine 'distinguished individuals' honoured for their contributions to sport, politics, science, medicine and the arts. Marvel actor and The Traitors US presenter Alan Cumming will receive an honorary degree on Thursday July 3, while BBC security correspondent Frank Gardner will be presented with one on Friday July 4. Sustainability campaigner Sara Parkin and US golfer Judy Rankin will also receive the accolade during the week. Also recognised will be Russian-American scientist Eugene Koonin and political theorist and feminist writer Professor Cynthia Enloe. There is one ceremony on June 30 at 2pm, while the other ceremonies will occur twice in one day. It's a proper bargain, which tastes more expensive than it is. Definitely a step up in superiority from those £15 club fizzes, for only an extra £4. Think plenty of apple flavour, with a bit of toast and butter for that exclusive feel. The finish on this sparkling treat packs a subtly bitter kick that might not be for everyone, so that's something to bear in mind. But this is a serious sipper for the price, nonetheless. 4/5 Louvel Fontaine Champagne Brut NV £18.48 Asda 10 It's a properly posh-seeming drink that will take you from aperitifs though canapés and even on to a main course, should you like Credit: supplied DON'T be fooled into thinking that because the bottle looks less fancy, the fizz inside may disappoint. Well-known names and glitzy labels are fine but it's the froth in your flute that counts – and this tipple seriously overdelivers for the price. Despite costing less than 20 quid, it stays crisp and fresh as you drink, while loaded with hazelnut, brioche and citrus flavour. It's a properly posh-seeming drink that will take you from aperitifs though canapés and even on to a main course, should you like. Great for parties, gifting, toasts, a night in or anything you fancy really. It's often on offer, too, so keep checking. A real off-the-radar gem. 5/5 Nicolas de Montbart Champagne Brut NV £13.99 Aldi 10 Think soft, bruised apples and a sprinkling of chopped almonds when you sip – but it could do with increased acidity to balance things up Credit: supplied ANOTHER French fizz from Aldi at a very affordable price. It's great that the supermarket chain has sourced a back-up champagne for when its prize-winning Veuve Monsigny dries up, and this is a decent drop. But the taste is just a little bit generic for my liking, and noticeably sweet. Think soft, bruised apples and a sprinkling of chopped almonds when you sip – but it could do with increased acidity to balance things up. One for cocktails rather than sipping on its own, in my opinion. In the clip, Toni can be seen chatting to Meg saying: "I can't listen to her. 'Little Miss Sunshine' all the time." It then cut to Toni doing her makeup with Emily in the same room. Emily asked Toni how she was and she told her that she was in a "bad mood". Speaking to Meg and some of the other girls, Emily said she wanted to have chat with Toni. BOMBSHELL RIVALS Meg then warned her about what Toni had said earlier. Toni then said "Emily's just f**king nosey," in a clip that didn't show who she was saying it to. Showing off to her fellow Islanders during Thursday night's episode, the American beauty, 24, did a handstand into a cartwheel as her boob fell out of her bikini. Toni did the flexible act while donning a skimpy bathing suit, which would later have consequences. As she did the move, her boob seemingly fell out of her swimsuit. The wardrobe blunder left her co-stars in hysterics, with one of the hunks begging her to cover up quickly. Dejon was shouting: "Tone, the boob is out," repeatedly, as she failed to pay attention.
