Banks and RBI Collaborate on Real-Time Intelligence Platform to Tackle Rising Digital Payment Frauds

Once operational, DPIP will collect, analyse, and disseminate actionable intelligence in real time, helping financial institutions flag and block suspicious transactions promptly You're reading Entrepreneur India, an international franchise of Entrepreneur Media. In response to the alarming rise in digital payment frauds, India's public and private sector banks are joining forces under the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) guidance to develop a Digital Payment Intelligence Platform (DPIP). Envisioned as a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), the platform aims to significantly enhance fraud risk management by enabling real-time data sharing and intelligence gathering to stop fraudulent transactions before they occur. The urgency of the initiative is underscored by recent RBI data that reveals a sharp increase in reported bank frauds. In FY25, the total value of frauds surged nearly threefold to INR 36,014 crore from INR 12,230 crore in the previous fiscal year. Public sector banks accounted for INR 25,667 crore of the total, a significant jump from INR 9,254 crore a year earlier. Sources familiar with the development said the platform's structure will be designed collaboratively by public and private banks, recognising that digital fraud is a shared challenge across the financial ecosystem. A high-level meeting was recently held, bringing together senior officials from the RBI, banking institutions, and other stakeholders to finalise the framework of the proposed entity. The platform expected to go live within the next few months. Once operational, DPIP will collect, analyse, and disseminate actionable intelligence in real time, helping financial institutions flag and block suspicious transactions promptly. In terms of volume, most frauds have been concentrated in digital payment modes like cards and online transactions, particularly within private sector banks. However, in terms of value, the majority of fraudulent activities in public sector banks have occurred in the loan and advances segment. The Reserve Bank Innovation Hub (RBIH) has been tasked with building the prototype of the platform in collaboration with 5 to 10 partner banks. It will leverage advanced analytics and technologies to strengthen the banking sector's response to increasingly sophisticated cyber fraud tactics. The initiative follows recommendations made by a committee set up in June last year, led by A P Hota, former MD & CEO of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which studied the feasibility and structure of such a digital infrastructure.

Is Tyler Technologies Stock Outperforming the Dow?

Tyler Technologies, Inc. (TYL), based in Texas, is the quiet powerhouse fueling government tech. With software in over 13,000 locations and all 50 U.S. states, Tyler's mission is to modernize public sector operations. Its tools help agencies streamline data, boost efficiency, and make smarter decisions. Valued at $24.5 billion by market cap, Tyler is not just digitizing government – it is reshaping how it works. Large-cap stocks are those companies valued at north of $10 billion, and Tyler Technologies fits that mold with ease. With a market cap well above the threshold, Tyler dominates the government tech arena, driving innovation in cloud, data, and cybersecurity. Through bold acquisitions and strategic plays, it has become the digital backbone for smarter, faster, more transparent public services. Tyler's shares are down 14% from their 52-week high of $661.31 achieved on Feb. 13, slipping 1% over the past three months and lagging the Dow Jones Industrials Average's ($DOWI) 1.4% rise. However, over the longer term, TYL stock rose 20.3% over the past 52 weeks, outperforming DOWI's 8.6% returns over the past year. Tyler Technologies has been stuck in a technical tug-of-war. Since March, the stock drifted below both its 50- and 200-day moving averages. By May, TYL managed to claw back above its 50-day line - just enough to tease a comeback. The stock just flashed a bearish crossover - its 50-day average dipped beneath the 200-day, signaling momentum fatigue. Shares of Tyler Technologies have been grinding up the charts over the past year, powered by its sharp pivot into cloud-based solutions and a growing appetite for AI integration. Plus, the company's fundamentals were robust, consistently outpacing the broader market. For instance, released on April 23, its Q1 fiscal 2025 numbers were rock solid: $2.78 in adjusted EPS and $565.2 million in revenue – both exceeding estimates. But Wall Street can be a cold game. Despite the beat, a wave of analyst downgrades sent the stock sliding 6% overnight, proof that even solid execution can get undercut by shaken sentiment. Tyler's rival, Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (CDNS), has been on a short-term sprint jumping nearly 17% over the past three months. But zoom out, and Tyler's shares win the marathon - its year-long rally easily outpaces Cadence's 9.1% stumble. Wall Street analysts are cautiously optimistic about TYL's prospects. The stock has a consensus 'Moderate Buy' rating from the 18 analysts covering it, but that's a downgrade from the 'Strong Buy' rating a month ago. Meanwhile, the mean price target of $670.35 suggests a potential growth of 17.9% from current price levels. Social Security's Finances Erode Further and Could Spell Benefit Cuts

The Social Security program faces a financing shortfall that, if left unaddressed, would slash millions of retirees' crucial monthly benefit payments in just eight years. The deteriorating financial outlook for the retirement program, which supports roughly 61 million Americans, was released in its annual trustees report on Wednesday. It is now expected to run out of money nine months earlier than previously projected, which means benefits could be reduced by 23 percent if Congress does not act to bolster the program. That puts the Social Security Old-Age and Survivors Insurance Trust Fund, which pays retiree and survivor benefits, on schedule to be depleted in 2033, or when today's 59-year-olds turn 67. At that time, the program will have enough revenue coming in to pay only 77 percent of total scheduled benefits. The most recent setback was driven largely by a policy change, known as the Social Security Fairness Act, which took effect in January and increased benefits for about 2.8 million government and public sector workers. But there were other factors: Government actuaries now assume that the birthrate will remain lower for longer, while projecting that workers' compensation would weaken over time as they capture a lower share of the nation's economic output. A separate trust fund, which finances Social Security disability benefits for an additional 8.2 million people, is on more stable ground. It will be able to pay all of its bills through 2099, the report said. The trustees also reported a slightly weaker financial outlook for the trust fund that finances hospital care for Medicare beneficiaries. They expect that that trust fund will be unable to pay all its bills in 2033, three years sooner than it had estimated last year. That change was driven mostly by increased spending on hospital care in 2024, a shift the trustees believe will continue into the next few years. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.
