Daniel Cormier: Jamahal Hill as underdog vs. Khalil Rountree Jr. is 'disrespectful'

Daniel Cormier is confused by the betting odds for Jamahal Hill vs. Khalil Rountree Jr. at UFC on ABC 8. Former UFC light heavyweight champion Hill (12-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC) meets Rountree Jr. (13-6 MMA, 9-6 UFC) in Saturday's main event (ABC, ESPN, ESPN+) at Baku Crystal Hall in Baku, Azerbaijan. Hill is coming off back-to-back stoppage losses to Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka, whereas Rountree Jr. most recently suffered a TKO loss to Pereira in their title fight at UFC 307. With Hill's championship experience and names on his resume, Cormier doesn't think he should be a slight underdog against Rountree. "Little detail in this fight that I think a lot of people are overlooking: Khalil Rountree, for as well as he fought against Alex Pereira, that was the only guy he's ever fought inside the top 10," Cormier said on "Good Guy/Bad Guy" with Chael Sonnen. "But he opened as a betting favorite over Jamahal Hill this weekend. Is that disrespectful to Jamahal Hill?" Cormier says it is. He thinks the public's perception of Hill gets clouded by his actions. "He (Rountree) took a lot of damage while not being able to go the 25 minutes is very telling – especially when we've seen Jamahal do that," Cormier added. "I think it's disrespectful to Jamahal. Jamahal Hill has done some things social media wise and publicly that make people not like him. The fanbase, they just don't want to like him. Belal Muhammad struggles with that at times. He tries to be more engaging, it doesn't work. People go, 'I can't stand Belal Muhammad.' Same thing with Jamahal. Jamahal had a couple of hiccups, I can't remember exactly what he did last year, but the fanbase just turned on him, and I think it's because of that. "Their inability to like him that makes them not truly respect what he's capable of. You can almost be blinded by your dislike for someone, your hatred of someone, and not realize this dude is the real deal. Jamahal Hill can fight, and for him to be an underdog against a guy who's never fought anyone in the top 10 when you've beaten Glover Teixeira, you have fought Jiri Prochazka, you have fought Alex Pereira. You have beaten so many guys in the way that Jamahal Hill has beaten them, to be the underdog, makes no sense to me. And if I was making a favorite in that fight, I would have chosen Jamahal Hill over Khalil Rountree."

Kobe Bryant's widely touted nephew commits to Oregon in college football splash

Though he bears a different last name and stars in a different sport, Jett Washington is carrying on the athletic legacy of his late uncle, Kobe Bryant. Washington announced his commitment Thursday night to play college football at Oregon. The top-ranked safety in ESPN's class of 2026 recruiting ranks, Washington is the highest-rated four-star recruit and holds the No. 22 spot in the entire class. Per 247Sports, he is a five-star recruit and holds the No. 18 spot in the 2026 class. 4 Jett Washington committed to Oregon to play his collegiate football. Jett Washington / Instagram Washington's commitment makes him Oregon's top-ranked defensive player in its 2026 class. He chose the Ducks over the likes of Alabama and USC, where he also took official visits. 'I have that great time with [Oregon defensive backs coach Chris Hampton] and the coaching staff,' Washington told ESPN. 'I loved the way they treated me out there. My relationship with them has been going the right way ever since I started talking to them.' 4 Jett Washington posing in an Oregon uniform on a visit to the program. Jett Washington / Instagram Washington hails from Las Vegas, where he is entering his senior season for the football powerhouse Bishop Gorman High School. In his junior year, he racked up 38 tackles and five interceptions. The youngster was practically destined to be an athlete, and not only because of his uncle. 4 Washington rocked a football-cleat version of his uncle's iconic Kobe 6 basketball shoe in his photoshoot with Oregon. Jett Washington / Instagram His father, Jerrod Washington, played running back at Virginia for four years before being drafted by the New England Patriots in 1994. His mother, Sharia Washington (Bryant's oldest sister), was a volleyball player at Temple. Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing in at 210 pounds, Washington has some basketball-like size, which he not only utilizes on the football field. Like his uncle, Washington also has talent on the basketball court, as he helped lead Bishop Gorman to a second straight Nevada Class 5A state basketball title earlier this year. Washington was close with both Bryant and his daughter, Gianna, who were among the nine people tragically killed in a 2020 helicopter crash in California. 4 Jett Washington as a child smiling for a photo with his uncle, Kobe Bryant. Oregon Ducks / Instagram Washington wears No. 2 on the basketball court, just as Gianna did, and would go to his uncle for advice often. 'Jett was Kobe's guy,' Washington's father said. 'Kobe used to tell me, 'I need him every summer to come work with me.' He would give Jett words of wisdom. Anytime Jett would play in something, he'd send his uncle a clip, and Kobe would make a comment. Kobe would send him back emojis or tell him to make this adjustment or that adjustment. They were close.'

Dan Orlovsky cannot stop talking about one Minnesota Vikings player ahead of 2025

Dan Orlovsky may not have been the quarterback he had hoped to be in the NFL, but he has more than made up for it as an analyst and in how he now teaches the game to others. The former UConn quarterback now works out of the same state he played college football in as an analyst for ESPN. As one of their lead football analysts, Orlovsky has the chance to talk about anyone and any team in the league. However, he has remained steadfast in his optimism about the Minnesota Vikings and J.J. McCarthy. While appearing on The Pat McAfee Show on Thursday, Orlovsky displayed a trademark smile when asked if he was still high on J.J. McCarthy heading into the 2025 season and training camp. The former NFL quarterback said, "I think he's gonna be awesome this year, honestly. I totally believe, production-wise, he'll play very similar to what Sam did last year. One, there's just a scheme and a roster talent — Minnesota's the easiest place in the NFL to play quarterback this year. It's as good an offensive roster as we have in the NFL. And then you combine it with scheme and play caller in Kevin O'Connell. . .I think J.J., the skills that he has and the foundation that he has, he's a play on rhythm, listen to his feet when it comes to where and when to throw the football, the timing of the way he plays the position. . .perfect for what is the necessary stuff playing that position in Minnesota." Beyond just the coaching and atmosphere of the Vikings, the roster isn't half bad either. The work of Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and his staff this offseason has McCarthy stepping into the best situation of a first-time starter in the recent history of the NFL.
