One spectator dead, several injured after fall from upper stand in Algeria
June 22 (Reuters) - One spectator died and several others were injured after falling from an upper stand of the stadium following MC Alger winning the Algerian top-flight league for the second season in a row, media reports said on Saturday.
MC Alger said one of their supporters had died in the incident at the 5 July Stadium in capital Algiers, with Algerian president Abdelmadjid Tebboune offering his condolences and wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.
"It is with great sadness and sorrow and with hearts that we received the news of our supporter Younes Amguzzi, who passed away after falling from the upper stands," MC Alger said in an Instagram post.
Local media reports said the spectators fell after a fence in the upper stand broke, with El Heddaf TV's Facebook page posting a video showing part of a railing collapsed into the lower tier.
The injured spectators were rushed to hospital, where MC Alger players, staff and administrators also went to donate blood as the trophy presentation ceremony was postponed, the reports added.

For sure – Marcus Rashford would relish playing with Lamine Yamal at Barcelona
Macus Rashford has revealed he would like to play alongside teenage prodigy Lamine Yamal at Barcelona. Rashford, 27, signed a five-year contract with Manchester United in 2023, but spent the second half of the recently concluded Premier League campaign on loan at Aston Villa and his future under Ruben Amorim – who had left him out of several squads – remains uncertain. Advertisement The forward opened up about his ambitions in an interview with Spanish influencer Javi Ruiz which was shared by BBC Sport. Marcus Rashford is open about his admiration for Lamine Yamal. Hopefully… we'll see.' Barcelona sporting director Deco in May told Catalan radio station RAC1 that the club 'like' Rashford. Rashford added: 'It's difficult to put into words what (Yamal) is doing because he's not supposed to be doing that at 16 or 17. I don't think we've seen that before.' Advertisement

Three dead and 70 injured as barrier gives way in football stadium disaster
Three football fans died and more than 70 others suffered injuries after tumbling from the upper tier of a stadium in the Algerian top flight. A goalless draw with NC Magra was enough for MC Alger to defend their league title on Saturday, but the contest has been overshadowed by the horrendous scenes that played out after the final whistle. Local media in Algeria report that a security barrier broke at the Stade du 5 Juillet, causing multiple spectators to fall from a great height into the largely empty stand below. Emergency services were seen rushing to the scene to treat the dozens injured in Algiers, the capital of Algeria, with nearby supporters left in a state of shock and panic. Photographs taken in the aftermath of the incident show clearly where the section of the barrier in question gave way at the 64,200-capacity ground, where MC Alger's euphoric players had been celebrating just moments earlier. 'The Beni Messous University Hospital received 38 injured people, while three deaths were recorded,' a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Health read. 'Ben Aknoun Hospital also received 27 injured people, while Bab El Oued Hospital received 16.' Before two more deaths were confirmed, MC Alger passed on their condolences to Younes Amguzzi, who was among those to lose their lives in the fall. 'It is with great sadness and sorrow and with hearts that we received the news of our supporter Younes Amguzzi, who passed away after falling from the upper stands,' a statement read. Algerian president Abdelmadjid Tebboune has also reached out to the families of the three killed, while wishing those injured a 'speedy recovery'. More to follow.
