Palestinian Detainee Dies in Israeli Custody, Rights Groups Demand International Probe
DaysofPal — Palestinian human rights organizations reported Thursday that a 33-year-old detainee from Gaza died in Israeli custody on December 13, 2023, at the Sde Teiman military camp, days after he and his family were arrested during the early stages of Israel's ground invasion of Gaza.
In a joint statement, the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners Society confirmed they had received an official Israeli occupation army response acknowledging the detainee's death. He was arrested from his home in Gaza on December 7, 2023, and was a father of three.
According to the statement, Sde Teiman has become a central site of abuse and torture against Gaza detainees in the aftermath of the military campaign. Released prisoners have shared accounts of severe mistreatment, with some bearing physical evidence that supports allegations of widespread and systematic violations.
The detainee's death raises the number of Palestinians confirmed killed in Israeli custody following the Gaza offensive to at least 70, including 44 from Gaza whose identities are known. Since 1967, a total of 307 Palestinian prisoners have died in Israeli custody, marking this as the deadliest period in the history of the Palestinian prisoner movement.
The organizations stated that responses from the Israeli army remain limited and often rely solely on military narratives, without disclosing the circumstances of death. The continued withholding of bodies further prevents independent investigations or proper burials.
Rights groups accused the Israeli army of providing inconsistent information regarding the deaths, forcing some organizations to seek court intervention. Torture was cited as the primary cause of death in most recent cases, in addition to medical neglect, starvation, and sexual abuse.
They described the case as part of a broader policy of systemic brutality aimed at detainees, warning that the death toll will likely rise as thousands remain in custody under conditions described as inhumane and life-threatening.
As of early May 2025, over 10,100 Palestinians are being held in Israeli prisons, including 39 women, more than 400 children, 3,577 administrative detainees held without charge, and 1,846 detainees from Gaza classified as 'unlawful combatants.' This figure does not include all those held in military camps.
The organizations held Israeli authorities fully responsible and called for an impartial international investigation into the deaths of detainees during the recent conflict. They urged the global human rights system to take concrete steps, including imposing sanctions, to hold Israeli leaders accountable and end what they called a state of impunity.
They further called for the reactivation of international legal mechanisms and an end to what they described as a global failure to respond to war crimes committed during the Gaza war, warning that the exceptional immunity granted to Israel continues to enable grave violations without consequence.

EU Diplomatic Service: Israel Violating Human Rights Commitments in Gaza
DaysofPal- The European Union's diplomatic service has stated that there are signs that the Israeli occupation violates its human rights obligations under the agreement governing its relationship with the EU. The warning comes amid growing concern in European capitals over the ongoing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, now entering its 20th month. According to a report published Saturday, seen by Sanad News Agency, and based on assessments by independent international institutions, the EU said there are indications that Israel may be breaching Article 2 of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, which binds both parties to respect human rights and democratic principles. The report highlights that Israel's continued restrictions on the delivery of food, medicine, medical equipment, and other essential supplies are affecting all residents in the impacted areas of Gaza. Last month, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, stated that the Union would assess whether Israel was complying with the terms of its agreement after more than half of EU member states supported a formal review. Under the EU-Israel Association Agreement, which came into force in 2000, both parties agreed to base their relationship on respect for human rights and democratic principles. The report also criticizes the obstruction of humanitarian aid, the Israeli attacks that have resulted in large numbers of casualties, and the targeting of hospitals and medical facilities, as well as the forced displacement of civilians and the lack of accountability. In addition, it addresses the situation in the occupied West Bank, including the increasing violence by settlers against Palestinians. The findings are based on verified facts and independent international evaluations, focusing on recent developments in Gaza and the West Bank. Since October 7, 2023, with full backing from the United States, the Israeli occupation forces have waged a genocidal war on Gaza that has killed or injured over 185,000 Palestinians, mostly children and women, with over 10,000 still missing. The war has caused widespread destruction and a deadly famine and is considered one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world today. Shortlink for this post:

UN: Israel Continues to Block Fuel Shipments into Gaza
DaysofPal- The United Nations confirmed that Israeli occupation forces continue to prevent fuel shipments from entering Gaza for the 16th consecutive week, warning of the catastrophic consequences of these practices on the lives of the people in the besieged strip. UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric stated during a press briefing: 'Israel has been preventing the entry of fuel shipments into Gaza for 16 weeks.' He pointed out that UN officials managed to recover a quantity of fuel that was already present at the Tahrir Station in Rafah on the previous Wednesday. According to Dujarric, a limited amount of this fuel was delivered on Thursday to public facilities in southern Gaza, allowing water desalination plants, water distribution trucks, and sewage pumping stations to continue operating. He also revealed that fuel was sent to northern Gaza on Friday but emphasized: 'The fuel shortage is severely restricting operations and leading to reduced working hours and capacity.' Palestinian Activist Mahmoud Khalil Released, White House Opposes Court Ruling
DaysofPal- Palestinian activist and Columbia University researcher Mahmoud Khalil was released following a federal judge's order to end his 104-day detention. Khalil had been a prominent figure in pro-Palestinian protests opposing the Israeli war on Gaza. He was arrested on March 8 in his university housing in Manhattan amid a controversial crackdown on student-led demonstrations. Former U.S. President Donald Trump had taken a harsh stance on the protests, calling them 'antisemitic' and vowing to deport foreign students who took part. Khalil became the first target of this policy, despite holding lawful permanent residency in the U.S. In a court hearing, District Judge Michael Farbiarz ordered Khalil's release, stating the government had failed to prove he posed any danger to the community or flight risk. The judge also warned that 'there is a suspicion that immigration charges are being used as a tool to punish the petitioner (Khalil), which would be unconstitutional,' pointing to the political motives behind his detention. The White House quickly criticized the ruling. In an official statement, a spokesperson said, 'There is no legal basis for the New Jersey judge's order, who lacks jurisdiction to release Khalil.' The administration added, 'We are confident our position will prevail on appeal and look forward to his removal from the United States.' Khalil has previously stated that his arrest was politically motivated, in clear violation of his First Amendment rights. Shortlink for this post:
