Dominance MMA manager Ali Abdelaziz isn't so certain that Kayla Harrison vs. Amanda Nunes will happen.
Immediately after submitting Julianna Peña to claim the bantamweight title Saturday at UFC 316, Harrison (19-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) faced off with Nunes (23-5 MMA, 16-2 UFC) in the octagon. Nunes said she's committed to make a full return to competition after retiring in June 2023.
Abdelaziz, who manages Harrison, believes Nunes is afraid to fight her former American Top Team training partner.
"When Amanda was in the UFC, nobody really cared to be honest with you. When she left, nobody cared," Abdelaziz told Submission Radio. "Now, Kayla brought her back, and Kayla created a moment, like this is a big fight, the environment and how she brought her in. I have my doubts about Amanda.
"First, she was sat next to me (at UFC 316), and her energy, she wanted Kayla to lose. She was not cheering for Kayla, definitely she wanted Julianna to win. This is 100 percent, and if you want to fight someone, you want them to win to challenge them, right? She wanted Kayla to lose, and I'm just being real."
Abdelaziz thinks Nunes will have some stipulations that could jeopardize the superfight.
"This is why I said this fight should happen at 145 because that's what I'm predicting – she will take the fight at 135, and after that, three or two weeks out, she will say, 'I can't make the weight, let's make it at 145,'" Abdelaziz said of Nunes. "Or she's going to pull out."
Harrison has opened up as a slight favorite over Nunes, and Abdelaziz is fully confident that she will make easy work of the former UFC double champion.
"All respect to Amanda: Nobody gives a sh*t about Amanda," Abdelaziz said. "Let's just be real. When she left, nobody cared. Kayla has made her relevant again because guess what? She has a legacy and accomplishments. Nobody will accomplish what Kayla accomplished in combat sports. It will be impossible to do.
"If Kayla never fought Amanda, it won't do anything to her legacy. Kayla can retire tomorrow, and she'll have one of the best legacies in the sport. But Kayla is such a compeititor, that she wants to bring Amanda (back), and she's going to smash her face. She's going to make her quit like she made Julianna quit."

A massive audience is expected with six of the 12 fights projected to the distance, according to oddsmakers — although five of the first six fights are projected to do so, meaning it could be a slow start to the day. UFC Baku Azerbaijan predictions Jamahal Hill vs. Khalil Rountree Jr. In the heavyweight division, Jamahal 'Sweet Dreams' Hill faces off against Khalil Rountree Jr. with this fight now being lined as a pick 'em, according to most oddsmakers. On Wednesday, Hill was an underdog and among my best bets on the card. Frankly, he is still there for me, even if some of the value has evaporated as we approach the weekend. Hill is coming off two competitive losses. Rountree was beaten down last time out against Alex Pereira in one of the more brutal and violent displays we've seen in the octagon of late. Two strikers are coming into Saturday night's co-main event tilt, and it should be fascinating to see how Fiziev recovers after the beatdown he received at the hands of Justin Gaethje. When reviewing tape, though, I think Fiziev is a solid matchup for Bahamondes. Bahamondes is much taller, but kicks have seldom been an issue for Fiziev and his strikes to the body pose an imminent threat to Bahamondes as this fight pushes forward. Fiziev should be able to utilize kicks to the body and legs to immobilize Bahamondes a bit, and I have a tough time backing the favorite here considering his strength of schedule is far below that of Fiziev. Fiziev was once considered a title contender and just because he's not the same level of striker as Gathje, it doesn't mean he should be an underdog Saturday. He won that fight against Alexander Poppeck by TKO in the third round. The victory earned him a UFC contract. Hill made his official UFC debut in January 2020, winning a decision over Darko Stosic on the main card of an ESPN+ event at PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina. He then faced Klidson Abreu in May 2020. He initially won that bout by first-round TKO, but the result was later overturned to a no-contest because Hill tested positive for marijuana He followed that fight with a December 2020 TKO over former interim light heavyweight title challenger Ovince Saint Preux. Hill's unbeaten streak ended in his next trip to the Octagon, when Paul Craig ended their June 2021 fight in under two minutes by TKO. Hill bounced back from that loss by rattling off three straight 'Performance of the Night' bonus-winning knockouts. That run earned him a shot at then-champion Glover Teixeira. Misfortune ended Hill's title reign. In July 2023, he suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon during a UFC fighter basketball game. He relinquished the title and underwent surgery to repair the injury. Hill returned at UFC 300 in a matchup against UFC light heavyweight champ Alex Pereira. Pereira ended that fight via knockout at the 3:14 mark of the first round. Hill returned to the Octagon at UFC 311 when he faced former champ Jiri Prochazka on the main card. Prochazka ended that bout via TKO at 3:01 of Round 3. A submission loss to Tyson Pedro followed Rountree's defeat to Sanchez. However, Rountree went 3-0-0-1 after that setback, scoring three knockout wins in his victories. A knockout loss to Johnny Walker, who Rountree was favored to beat, ended his unbeaten streak. A decision victory over Eryk Anders in April 2019 got Rountree back in the win column, but a TKO loss to Ion Cutelaba and a decision setback against Marcin Prachnio followed.
