HUGE Royal Ascot favourite Kalpana has been ruled out of the Group 2 Hardwicke on Saturday - in a big blow to ante-post punters.
The Andrew Balding-trained four-year-old filly - who he described as 'wonderful' - had been the strong 9-4 favourite for the 1m4f contest.

She ran promisingly behind Los Angeles in the Irish Derby when last seen and 'oozed class' before that when claiming the British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes last October.
But that was on soft ground and she hasn't looked quite the same horse when its dry underfoot.
With the going good to firm at Ascot and only set to get firmer amid the baking temperatures, owners Juddmonte have decided to pull her out of the £250,000 contest.
They also scrapped Calla Lagoon from the Golden Gates handicap during the declarations for Saturday's racing.
Juddmonte racing manager Barry Mahon told the Racing Post: "Neither are going to run, the ground's too quick for both of them."
Kalpana is currently 10-1 joint-favourite for October's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe with some firms.
But a more immediate target may be next weekend's Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh.
The Study Of Man filly is also entered in July's Coral-Eclipse at Sandown and the King George back at Ascot, for which she is 20-1 and 7-2 respectively.
With Kalpana out of the Hardwicke bookies made Godolphin's recent Yorkshire Cup winner Rebel's Romance the 9-4 fav.
Joseph O'Brien, who is having a brilliant week at Ascot, saddles Al Riffa, who is the same 5-1 price as Amo Racing's new £2million purchase Ghostwriter.
Former Nicky Henderson inmate Palladium, who is now with John & Thady Gosden is an interesting inclusion after his comeback run at Goodwood.
He is the mount of Ryan Moore and could make each-way appeal at odds of 12-1.

Royal Ascot chief hails 'fantastic' week as crowds rise in major boost for British racing after dispiriting Derby at Epsom

Felicity Barnard, Ascot 's chief executive, is adamant the Royal meeting provided an accurate reflection of racing's popularity and showed the sport has the potential to grow. The build-up had featured discussion about waning crowds, a point that had been exacerbated by the dispiriting Derby meeting at Epsom, where crowds were down 17 per cent on the previous year. But the pendulum swung the other way at Ascot, as crowds were up on each of the five days, culminating in an attendance of 71,000 on Saturday. The combined figure was 286,541 and there is nothing to suggest the figure won't be around the same in 12 months. Barnard said: 'It has been a fantastic week with some brilliant sport to enjoy. We have been a window for our sport and I am absolutely thrilled. We have welcomed more than 285,000 people, nearly a five per cent increase on last year. 'We have worked really hard across the year to understand what people want when they come to a world-class event like this; the right pricing, the right product, and we have worked really hard at the experience. The week provided a boost for racing after crowds were down at the Epsom derby - pictured 'We want to make sure everyone has a great time, whether they are here for the horses, the food or the fashion. It is a wonderful eco-system and we are already excited for next year.' Exciting times beckon for Wathnan Racing, the venture of Qatar's Emir, who enjoyed their best-ever Ascot with five winners, headed by Lazzat in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes. The gelding, who caused a scene when he got rid of jockey James Doyle after the race before going on a lap of Ascot, will now be given a rest rather than running in Newmarket's July Cup.

Goldie cool on idea of Goodwood for American Affair

The Royal Ascot hero is the third generation of the family Goldie has trained, with American Affair's dam, Classy Anne, by Orientor whom Goldie guided with great success. American Affair was, though, Goldie's first ever Group One winner after several near-misses and he now has more big targets in his sights for the Paul Mulrennan-ridden five-year-old. 'It's just started to sink in. He's come out of the race well and he's been out on the gallops yesterday and today,' said Goldie on Sunday. 'The stars aligned, but that is quite often the case with good horses. I still don't think he's quite as good as Orientor was, but I probably had him early enough in my career and I learned a lot from him. Fortunately for me we kept him an entire which looks very shrewd now! 'We learned a lot from the likes of him, Jack Dexter and Hawkeyethenoo. I'm looking forward to seeing where this horse will peak.' Looking to the future Goldie does not believe Goodwood's downhill five furlongs is totally suitable in the King George Stakes. 'Five furlongs up a hill at Ascot is the perfect fit for him, I always thought it might be, so I'm not sure Goodwood will suit him going downhill,' he said. 'Otherwise we will wait for York and the Nunthorpe where we might have to take on a two-year-old or two which will be interesting.' Even further afield, American Affair now has an all-expenses paid trip to the Breeders' Cup to look forward to. 'We'll have to have a serious think about the Breeders' Cup if they are going to pay. I can't think of any other horse trained in Scotland to have run at it!' said Goldie.
