Russell Crowe Cast in 'Highlander' Reboot

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors He was Henry Cavill's father in "Man of Steel", and now he'll be rejoining Cavill in a different kind of adventure. Collider reports that Crowe has been cast in the Chad Stahelski-directed "Highlander" reboot, in "a key role opposite Henry Cavill" who is leading the film. There is no word yet on exactly who Crowe is playing, but our money's on Ramirez: the part originated by Sean Connery in the 1986 original. Ramirez is a mentor to the hero in the original "Highlander", who teaches Christopher Lambert's Connor MacLeod the ways of the Immortals. Russell Crowe attends the 57th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival on June 30, 2023 in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic. The annual Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is the largest film festival in the Czech "Highlander" reboot has been crawling along in development for years, but the last few months have seen more activity than ever. According to Collider, "Highlander" will begin production in the fall with the hope of releasing the film some time between 2027 and 2028. Along with rebooting the property, Stahelski hopes to evolve the mythology. He told Collider, "We're bringing it forward from the early 1500s in the Highlands to the beyond present-day New York and Hong Kong. There's big opportunity for action... and it's a bit of a love story — but not how you think." The director also told Collider how he sold the part to Cavill, saying, "My selling point to [Henry] was, look, you've got a guy that's been alive for over 500 years. He's the last person in the world that wanted to be in this situation." "So you get to cover quite a broad spread of a character arc... and you get to experience someone that's trained over 500 years and sort of played [with many types of] martial arts." In the original "Highlander" Lambert's MacLeod is a 16th century Scottish clansman who is accused of witchcraft when he inexplicably survives being run through during a battle. Cast out of his village, MacLeod eventually learns the truth with the arrival of Ramirez. MacLeod is an immortal who can die only if he loses his head. Other immortals exist, and one day the survivors will be drawn to a great city where they will need to fight over the Prize: something that could save humanity or could plunge the world into darkness, depending on who wins. MacLeod inevitably winds up facing off against the Kurgan (Clancy Brown), a sadistic and otherwise nameless warrior who has been hunting other immortals for centuries. "Highlander" was followed by a number of sequels, spinoff films, and spinoff TV series. Dave Bautista Being Targeted for Jake Gyllenhaal's 'Road House 2'

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors In both the original "Road House" and the 2024 remake, the hero had to lock horns with some serious contenders. Next time? He might be dealing with Drax the Destroyer. According to Variety, Dave Bautista of "Guardians of the Galaxy" fame has been offered a role in "Road House 2", the sequel to last year's remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal as ex-UFC fighter and hero Dalton. Read More: 'Toxic Avenger' Reboot Trailer Shows Best Look at Peter Dinklage's Toxie There's no word on the plot of "Road House 2" or what kind of role Bautista has been offered, though it seems likely it's the part of the bad guy. The "Road House" remake debuted on Amazon Prime last March and attracted close to 80 million viewers worldwide in its first eight weeks. According to then-Amazon MGM Studios head Jennifer Salke, it was Amazon's "most-watched produced film debut ever on a worldwide basis." Dave Bautista attends Amazon's Upfront 2025 Presentation at Beacon Theatre on May 12, 2025 in New York Amazon While "Road House" was directed by Doug Liman, Guy Ritchie has been tapped to helm the sequel. The change in director likely has something to do with Liman's frustration over "Road House" premiering on a streaming service rather than in a theater, something he expressed in interviews. "Road House 2" will be Gyllenhaal's third collaboration with Ritchie. Gyllenhaal will star in the upcoming action thriller "In the Grey" and has already starred in 2023's "The Covenant". Will Beall is writing the script for "Road House 2". Producers include Gyllenhaal, Josh McLaughlin, and Atlas Entertainment's Charles Roven and Alex Gartner. Ivan Atkinson is executive producing. "Road House" is a reboot of the 1989 action classic starring Patrick Swayze. Gyllenhaal plays Elwood Dalton, an ex-UFC fighter who starts the movie living in his car and is offered a job as a bouncer. Accepting the job finds Dalton pulled into a conflict involving criminals and bikers, as well as a developer who will stop at nothing to build his resort. Coming up for Bautista is "Trap House," in which he plays an undercover DEA agent whose teenage kids are using tactics they learned from him to rob a drug cartel. There's also "The Wrecking Crew", Bautista's long-awaited buddy cop team-up with "See" and "Dune" co-star Jason Momoa. Woman Returns to Dog Left Home Alone—What She Finds Leaves Her Sobbing

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A 5-month-old puppy with a case of separation anxiety left an owner sobbing in horror with what she discovered after returning home. Shanna White, also known on TikTok as @theregoshan1, has a red-nosed pit bull and German shepherd mix puppy named Ja'Dioree Scarlett, whom she's owned since the dog was only 5 weeks old. Ja'Dioree Scarlett, like many dogs, experiences separation anxiety when alone. Dogs with separation anxiety become extremely stressed and anxious, often causing them to become destructive. However, White said her puppy has never shown signs of being stressed while home alone. Ja'Dioree Scarlett never ruined the house. But White recently came home to a surprising scene after being gone for about an hour. She returned home to discover seemingly every last inch of the place destroyed. The blinds were chewed off. Items were thrown around. Pee on the bed. It became a headache for White after she was already under a lot of stress. She said this situation made it "worse." In her June 17 TikTok video, White walked around her home revealing more and more damage. She wrote in the caption that her pup "ate" her home. She cried in disbelief, wondering what had happened to her house after leaving it pristine and her pup calmly relaxing. "I know she has separation anxiety, but I didn't know she was that smart to open my room door," White said. "The only thing going through my mind was my house and how would I pay for all of it." Viewers were left speechless over this dog's "field day." "She had a funky good time," wrote one person. Another added: "Peeing on my bed would've sent me over the edge." However, several users flooded the comment section with their concerns about this pup's behavior. They ridiculed the owner: "I blame you cause why you left that toddler out." Pet parents are often divided on whether or not to crate train. Proponents argue crates provide dogs a safe space to go when they're feeling stressed, scared or tired. It keeps them out of trouble. But others will say it creates unwanted emotional stress, especially when left for extended periods of time. Do you have funny and adorable videos or pictures of your pet you want to share?
