Saudi-US strategic partnership in artificial intelligence highlighted

RIYADH — Minister of Communications and Information Technology Eng. Abdullah Al-Swaha emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership between Saudi Arabia and the United States in the field of artificial intelligence. "This cooperation reflects a shared understanding and a genuine commitment from both parties to support innovation and achieve success in a sector worth trillions of dollars," he said while addressing the Saudi-US Investment Forum in Riyadh on Tuesday.
Al-Sawaha emphasized that advances in advanced technologies are accompanied by legitimate concerns about their misuse. However, he noted that complex technologies, such as servers with high-performance processors, are difficult to exploit surreptitiously, contributing to enhanced security and transparency. "Saudi Arabia seeks to deploy and adopt these technologies to serve the public good, in cooperation with trusted partners. The Kingdom's commitment to adopting a responsible approach to developing AI technologies, one that takes into account ethical and security considerations and aims to benefit society," he said.
Al-Sawaha reviewed some of the fruits of technical cooperation between the Kingdom and the United States, including the development of AI-based government services, such as issuing passports in five minutes and renewing driver's licenses. He also highlighted the use of generative AI technologies in the development of advanced medical robots to treat cellular diseases and harmful cholesterol, which has contributed to reducing the cost of treatment from $2.2 million to just $100,000.
The minister said that Saudi Arabia continues to make progress in the field of renewable energy, working to reduce costs to the lowest possible level. The Kingdom is also witnessing developments in the field of physical artificial intelligence, noting that Saudi Arabia boasts of performing the first heart transplant relying entirely on a robot.

Tourism Ministry: Saudi Arabia tops 100 million visitors for second year in a row in 2024
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — Saudi Arabia welcomed around 116 million domestic and foreign tourists in 2024, and this figure marks an increase of six percent compared to 2023, according to the Ministry of Tourism. In its 2024 Annual Statistical Report on Saudi Arabia's tourism sector, released on Sunday, the ministry stated that total tourism spending for domestic and inbound travel during the last year reached approximately SR284 billion, reflecting an 11 percent year-over-year growth. The ministry noted that Saudi Arabia recorded its highest-ever number of inbound tourists, with approximately 30 million visitors in 2024, marking an 8 percent rise compared to 2023. Inbound tourism spending in 2024 totaled SR168.5 billion, up 19 percent from the previous year. Domestic tourism also experienced solid growth with 86.2 million domestic tourists in 2024, marking a five percent increase compared to 2023. Moreover, domestic tourism spending reached SR115.3 billion in 2024. The ministry's annual report highlighted key indicators of tourism activity and underscored the sector's continued growth following the significant progress made in 2023. Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khateeb stated that the strong performance reflected in the 2024 report was achieved through the guidance and support of the Kingdom's leadership. He highlighted that tourism has become a key enabler of Saudi Vision 2030, with the report shedding light on the sector's accelerated growth, driven by the efforts of the ministry and all stakeholders in Saudi Arabia's tourism ecosystem. The Ministry of Finance took part in the 16th session of meetings under the United Nations Convention against Corruption, held from June 16 to 20, 2025, at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna, Austria. During the session, the Ministry reaffirmed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's strong commitment to fostering integrity and fair competition in public procurement, as well as to deploying robust mechanisms to combat, detect, and prevent corruption. Further emphasizing its commitment to innovation in oversight, the Kingdom introduced Raqeeb, an advanced system that leverages artificial intelligence and data analytics to detect fraud and irregularities throughout the procurement process. Raqeeb is designed to identify practices such as bid rigging, collusion, price manipulation, favoritism, and the use of fictitious entities. It enables dynamic monitoring and swift intervention while maintaining the highest standards of data protection. The Ministry's participation in these international meetings reflects Saudi Arabia's active role in global anti-corruption efforts and its dedication to exchanging knowledge and best practices in alignment with the UN Convention. This engagement also supports the broader objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which prioritizes good governance, transparency, accountability, and anti-corruption as key pillars of national transformation.
