Cricket-England name squad for India Test series opener at Headingley

(Reuters) -England have named a 14-player squad for the first match of the Rothesay Test Series against India, which is set to begin on June 20 at Headingley in Leeds.
Ben Stokes will lead the squad as captain and Surrey bowling all-rounder Jamie Overton returns to the Test line-up for the first time since earning his sole cap against New Zealand at Headingley in June 2022.
The 31-year-old is still under close medical review after breaking his right little finger during the first One-Day International against the West Indies at Edgbaston last week.
Durham seamer Brydon Carse, as well as Warwickshire's Jacob Bethell and Chris Woakes, were recalled after featuring in England's Test tour of New Zealand in December.
Surrey's Gus Atkinson was ruled out of selection due to a hamstring injury sustained during the one-off Test against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge last month.
England will play five Test matches against India over the next couple of months, finishing on August 4 at the Kia Oval in London.

Liberty Media had argued the transaction would allow it to grow the reach and appeal of MotoGP. The commission said the decision followed a lengthy probe that examined if the acquisition would reduce competition for the licensing of sports content broadcasting rights. "Based on the evidence gathered, the Commission found that on such markets the companies are not close competitors for the licensing of broadcasting rights for sports content," the commission said in a statement. "Therefore, the transaction will not remove important competitive constraints between Formula 1 and MotoGP," it added. Reuters had reported that EU regulators were poised to approve the acquisition in April. Liberty Media had announced the 3.5-billion-euro deal to purchase an 86% stake in Dorna in April 2024. Coventry receives golden key as new IOC President
LAUSANNE: New International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Kirsty Coventry pledged on Monday to strengthen and extend the reach of the Games, as Zimbabwe's Olympic swimming champion took over from Thomas Bach in a ceremony in Lausanne. Coventry, who starts her eight-year spell officially on Tuesday as the most powerful sports administrator in the world, became the first woman and the first African to be elected head of the Olympic ruling body in March. The IOC generates several billion dollars in revenues each year in sponsorship and broadcasting deals for the summer and winter Olympics. Coventry needed only one round of voting to clinch the race to succeed Bach, beating six other candidates. On Monday, she was handed the golden key to the IOC by Bach, who was in charge for 12 years. "I am really honoured I get to walk this journey with you. I cannot wait for anything that lies ahead," Coventry said in her address to IOC members and other Olympic stakeholders. "I know I have the best team to support me and our movement over the next eight years." Los Angeles will host the 2028 Summer Olympics and Italy's Milano-Cortina will stage next year's Winter Games. Coventry will hold a two-day workshop this week to get feedback from members on key IOC issues. "Working together and consistently finding ways to strengthen and keep united our movement that will ensure that we wake up daily... to continue to inspire," she said. A seven-time Olympic medallist, Coventry won 200m backstroke gold at the 2004 Athens Games and in Beijing four years later. "With her election, you have also sent a powerful message to the world: the IOC continues to evolve," Bach said in his speech.
