
Plantation drive taken up during ‘Beat the heat' prog
Tirupati: Tirupati Municipal Corporation has conducted a series of programmes on the theme 'Beat the heat' in Tirupati on Saturday as part of Swarnandhra – Swachh Andhra programme. On this occasion, plantation, distribution of ORS packets, water kisoks and arrangements to provide water to birds and animals were taken up in several localities in the city.
Speaking on the occasion, Corporation Commissioner Narapureddy Mourya said following government's directions, the municipal corporation conducted various programmes on the theme of 'Beat the heat', keeping in view the summer season and create awareness among people on the precautions to be taken to get relief from the severe heat conditions. She said the corporation also took steps to create awareness to promote roof top gardens and plantation of trees in a big way for environmental protection and also to minimise heat during summer. She said people's participation is a must to make Swarnandhra – Swachh Andhra a success, which is observed on third Saturday of every month. She also wanted general public and employees not to neglect precautionary measures to be followed in summer season to avoid sunstroke.
AP Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation Director Vooka Vijay Kumar, corporators Anna Anitha, Revathi, SVU Registrar Bhupati Naidu, Additional Commissioner Charan Tej Reddy, Deputy Commissioner Amaraiah, Health Officer Dr Yuva Anvesh Reddy, ME Thulasi Kumar and others were participated. Meanwhile, various government organisations also observed the programme. Police personnel placed water filled mud pots and food to birds and animals at police station in Tirupati and also across the district.
At SPDCL office, as part of Swarnandhra – Swachh Andhra programme, officials took up cleanliness drive, and cleared unwanted plants and disposed waste.

Yogandhra grand success in Kurnool
Kurnool: As V Narendra Kumarpart of the Government's vision for a 'Healthy, Prosperous and Happy Andhra Pradesh,' the flagship Yogandhra initiative has been successfully conducted in Kurnool district, registering the highest participation across the State. Marking the International Day of Yoga, the district administration organised a mass yoga session at the Kurnool Outdoor Stadium under the supervision of the Kurnool Municipal Corporation on Saturday.. District Collector P Ranjith Basha, Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patil, Joint Collector Dr B Navya, Municipal Commissioner Ravindra Babu, and several district officials, yoga practitioners, students, sanitation workers, employees, and women participated in the event. Addressing the gathering, Collector Basha said that the Chief Minister envisions a healthy, joyful, and prosperous society, and yoga plays a key role in achieving this goal. Highlighting the scale of participation, the Collector said Andhra Pradesh registered over 2.39 crore people for the Yogandhra initiative, with Kurnool alone contributing 12.76 lakh registrations—the highest in the state. Over the past month, various yoga-related activities and training sessions were conducted across the district in more than 5,287 venues, involving people from all walks of life. Competitions at village, mandal, and district levels were organized, with winners advancing to the state-level contests and receiving accolades from the administration. He urged every citizen to make yoga a regular part of daily life and informed that participation certificates are available for all attendees. Speaking on the occasion, Municipal Commissioner Ravindra Babu extended heartfelt gratitude to the students, women, officials, and citizens who actively took part in the program. Later, as part of the third Saturday 'Swachh Andhra - Swarna Andhra' initiative, the Collector led a cleanliness pledge and distributed saplings to promote environmental awareness. The event saw the presence of Kurnool RDO Sandeep Kumar, and educationist KV Subba Reddy, among others.

Swarna Andhra – Swachh Andhra rally held
Rajamahendravaram: Inline with the directives of the State government, Swarna Andhra- Swachh Andhra initiative was organised with great enthusiasm on Saturday at Government Autonomous College, Rajahmundry, under the leadership of Principal Dr Ramachandra RK. As part of the programme, a rally, on the theme 'Neeru – Meeru', was conducted from Lalacheruvu to the college campus. Students and faculty actively participated in the rally, raising awareness about water conservation through impactful slogans and enthusiastic involvement. Following the rally, a gathering was held at METCAF hostel, where Principal Ramachandra addressed students and faculty. He emphasised the importance of water conservation and stressed the collective responsibility to safeguard natural resources. Students displayed informative and creative posters as part of the awareness campaign. A plantation drive was also carried out in the Miyawaki forest area, promoting green practices. Swachh Andhra pledge was administered to the students by faculty members Vijayashanthi and Durga Lakshmi, reinforcing the importance of maintaining cleanliness and sustainability. The event was effectively coordinated by SASA Coordinator G Raviteja along with committee members. Subhashini Devi, Lt Isub Basha, Dr Mallikarjuna, Muralikrishna, Dr Bhavani, and Dr Anusha participated.

SVU gears up to conduct AP PGCET from June 9
Tirupati: All arrangements are in place for the smooth conduct of the Andhra Pradesh Post Graduate Common Entrance Test (AP PGCET–2025), scheduled from June 9 to 12. Sri Venkateswara University (SVU), under the aegis of the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE), is fully geared up to oversee the examination, marking its return as the organising university after a four-year gap. Addressing the media on Saturday, Vice- Chancellor and Chairman of the PGCET Prof Ch Appa Rao, along with Registrar Prof M Bhupathi Naidu, convenor Prof PC Venkateswarlu and co-convenor Prof Surendra Babu, outlined the university's readiness and the comprehensive arrangements in place for the examination. 'We consider it a privilege for Sri Venkateswara University to lead AP PGCET–2025. Our team has taken all necessary steps to ensure the process is fair, inclusive and seamless for all aspirants. With bilingual question papers and efficient scheduling, we are ready to deliver a student-friendly examination experience,' the Vice-Chancellor said. A total of 25,688 candidates have applied for admission into 143 postgraduate programmes offered by 17 State universities, with nearly 25,000 seats available. The examinations will be conducted at 30 centres across the 13 erstwhile districts of Andhra Pradesh and in Hyderabad. The exam will take place in two shifts daily over four days. To avoid scheduling conflicts for candidates appearing for the DSC examination, the Physical Education paper originally slated for the morning of June 9 has been rescheduled to the afternoon of June 10. Notably, 68 differently-abled candidates will appear for the exam, and the organising committee has ensured all necessary support, including the provision of scribes, is in place to facilitate their participation. The results of AP PGCET–2025 are expected to be announced by June 25, followed by the admission process. Candidates are advised to strictly adhere to reporting times as latecomers will not be permitted to enter the examination halls.
