Tesla CEO Elon Musk challenges NYT and WSJ to take Drug tests and ...

Time of India6 days ago

Tesla CEO and X (formerly Twitter) owner Elon Musk has shared a tweet, publicly challenging the New York Times and Wall Street Journal to 'take drug tests and publish the results'. The tech billionaire's comments come as a response to recent reports alleging his excess Ketamine usage during Trump's campaign last year. Earlier in the day, Musk shared urine drug test results on X, showing he tested 'negative' for drugs. He shared the results online writing 'lol' (laughing out loud). A user commented on the post saying 'Would love to see NYTimes staff take the same test'.
The reply caught Musk's attention who responded saying, 'Great idea. I hereby challenge the NYT and WSJ to take drug tests and publish the results!', further adding 'They won't, because those hypocrites are guilty as sin.'

An NYT report recently said that Musk travels with a daily pill box containing around 20 different medications with his 'drug consumption went well beyond occasional use.' Quoting people familiar with the matter, the report stated that some of these pills include powerful stimulants and psychedelic substances, with some of them marked as Adderall, a commonly prescribed stimulant for ADHD.
Similarly, a report by The Wall Street Journal last year said that the Space X CEO has a history of recreational drug use. The Times has also claimed that Musk had actually developed a far more serious habit.
Elon hits back at alleged drug use reports
In another post on X he shared today - June 17, Musk wrote 'The sheer audacity of the WSJ/NYT lies is astonishing! WSJ claimed that I was being fired from Tesla and failed to include that the board flatly denied it!'
He previously said 'I am NOT taking drugs! NYT was lying their ass off.' Admitting to past ketamine use 'for dark mental holes,' Musk recently said he has been clean since.

Geopolitical jitters hit crypto: Bitcoin breaks $100k, Ethereum below $2.5k

Bitcoin (BTC) slipped below the psychological $100,000 mark for the first time in 45 days after the US military struck three nuclear sites in Iran, escalating the ongoing geopolitical conflict between Israel and Iran. The sudden escalation, analysts said, triggered widespread panic across the crypto market, resulting in over $1 billion in liquidations—primarily from overleveraged long positions. The negative sentiment spilled over into the broader crypto space, putting pressure on major altcoins as well. Ethereum (ETH), the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalisation, fell below the $2,500 mark, reflecting broader investor caution. Market analysts expect volatility in the crypto sector to persist amid heightened geopolitical risks and fragile investor sentiment. Although Bitcoin has since rebounded from its intraday lows, it remains under pressure. Last check, BTC was trading at $101,536.97, down 1.26 per cent, with a 24-hour trading volume of $62.46 billion, according to CoinMarketCap. The cryptocurrency has fluctuated between $98,286.21 and $102,991.74 in the past 24 hours. Experts weigh in Riya Sehgal, research analyst, Delta Exchange, attributed the price drop to the US military strikes and said that the current bounce of Bitcoin remains weak. "Market structure shows a short-term downtrend with lower highs and lows; possible bear flag forming," said Sehgal. Edul Patel, Co-founder and CEO of Mudrex, on the other hand, remains optimistic and said he believes that Bitcoin is on a recovery path, rebounding from weekend lows as broader markets attempt to regain footing following Middle East tensions. Positive signals, like Strategy hinting at fresh BTC accumulation and Texas passing the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve bill, Patel said, have helped sustain market sentiment. Notably, on-chain data shows long-term holders stepping in while short-term sellers retreat. "Historically, this kind of shift tends to happen near market bottoms, indicating a trend reversal in the market," said Patel. At current levels, Bitcoin, Patel said, faces immediate resistance at $105,400, with strong support building around the $100,000 level. Meanwhile, for Bitcoin, Sehgal sees support at $98,000, next at $96,500–95,000, while resistance is placed at $102,200–103,000 levels. Ethereum (ETH) finds support at $2,120 levels Ethereum (ETH) too faced selling pressure, thus slipping below the key $2,500 mark and hitting $2,120. Last check, it was seen trading at $2,249.62, down 1.6 per cent, with a trading volume of $24.2 billion. Ethereum, Sehgal said, is consolidating in a bearish pennant and has underperformed Bitcoin. At the current levels, the resistance for Ethereum, Sehgal said, is placed at $2,260–2,280, while support lies at $2,120, next at $2,050–2,000. Altcoins, especially small caps and AI tokens, dropped 17–20 per cent this week. Despite a 9-day BTC ETF inflow streak, momentum, analysts said, remains weak.

EV cost no longer a top concern as Uber drivers worry about charging access

When it comes to convincing millions of drivers to get behind the wheel of electric vehicles, Uber Technologies Inc. has good news and bad news. First, the positive: Prices are coming down to levels at which EV cost is no longer the top issue preventing drivers in the US and UK from going electric. This is a first in the four years Uber has been surveying drivers. The challenge will be tackling the new No. 1 concern — charging difficulties — especially for a company that depends on drivers who typically lack access to home charging. Just over a third of Uber's current EV drivers in the US have a dedicated home charger. The share is even lower in Europe, at 27 per cent in the UK and 13 per cent in the Netherlands. Uber does have an ace up its sleeve in mitigating this issue. Last year, the company hired Rebecca Tinucci, the former head of charging infrastructure at Tesla Inc., to oversee its electrification efforts. Nine months into the job, she's brokered a partnership the company expects will improve charging access for 55,000 drivers in London, Boston and Phoenix, and is rolling out a tool to help 40 cities decide on where to locate their next public plugs. 'We've got to get to work,' Tinucci said in an interview. 'As comfortable as I am in the charging space, I fully recognize how difficult it is to do charging well.' Uber is partnering with London, Boston and Phoenix as part of C40 Cities, a group affiliated with Michael Bloomberg, the founder and majority owner of Bloomberg News parent Bloomberg LP. In addition to contributing technical support, research and policy advocacy to those three cities, the company is launching what it calls an Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Estimator tool that will project future demand for EV charging from Uber drivers. The company is rolling out the service to cities covering almost 60 per cent of EV drivers on the Uber platform. The tool is more than just in Uber's self-interest. The name of the game for charging-station operators is driving high utilization. Drivers doing pickups and drop-offs around the clock are just the sort of customer operators are looking for. 'There's an incredible base of demand there that we at Uber should be able to rally in support of developing more infrastructure,' Tinucci said. Uber already has seen this play out. Three years ago, the company invested £5 million ($6.73 million) toward installing 700 EV chargers across north and east London. Its chargers in the borough of Newham are being used at more than twice the national average rate. 'The challenge at Tesla was kind of single-focused around Tesla vehicles,' Tinucci said of her previous role. 'What brought me to Uber was the potential for impact. We have the largest EV fleet in the world, and we're just getting started.'
