Chaudhari orders action against negligent contractors in Hanuman Nagar zone
Nagpur: Municipal Commissioner and administrator Abhijeet Chaudhari directed strict punitive action against contractors showing negligence in ongoing development works across Hanuman Nagar zone.
During a zonal review meeting held on Thursday, Chaudhari also instructed officials to issue notices to owners of vacant plots left in unhygienic conditions.
The visit followed instructions from guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule to assess pre-monsoon preparedness. Chaudhari inspected Hanuman Nagar zone office and later interacted with former corporators and citizens who raised issues from areas like Nimkar Nagar, Shahu Nagar, Ramteke Nagar, Ayodhya Nagar, and other localities.
Complaints ranged from incomplete road repairs to delays in drain and nullah cleaning.
Expressing displeasure over roads dug up under Amrut 2.0 scheme and not yet restored, Chaudhari asked for immediate repairs and instructed that essential monsoon-related works — including damaged sewer lines — be completed on priority.
The commissioner also visited the under-construction water purification plant at New Narsala under the Smart City project and ordered the speedy completion of pending STP works.
Additional commissioners Vasumana Pant and Vaishnavi B, Chief Engineer Manoj Talewar, and other senior officials were present. A memorandum on pre-monsoon work delays was submitted on behalf of MLA Mohan Mate.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has launched a 45-point action plan to rejuvenate the Yamuna River. The directions aim to accelerate ongoing projects and ensure strict monitoring. According to a statement issued by the Delhi government on Friday, CM Gupta will personally inspect the progress on Yamuna cleaning every month, in what has been described as a mission of 'environmental and ethical responsibility'. Chairing a high-level review meeting with officials of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) on Friday, CM Gupta reviewed budgetary allocations, project timelines, and progress across three key areas: water supply, sewerage network improvements, and the Yamuna revival plan. Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) and Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh also attended the meeting. The 45-point action plan covers drain treatment, treated water inflow into the river, solid and sewage waste management, septage and dairy waste disposal, riverfront development, stormwater planning, enforcement mechanisms, and public engagement. 'The rejuvenation of the Yamuna is not just a policy commitment—it is a moral duty. A clean and developed Delhi is possible only when every citizen has access to clean drinking water and efficient sewage systems,' the CM was quoted as saying, as per the government statement. According to the statement, 303 drainage projects worth Rs 8,000 crore are currently underway. These include de-silting works, permanent waterlogging solutions, pump house upgrades, and expansion of the stormwater network. The departments have been instructed to ensure timely and quality completion. Work is also ongoing to upgrade eight Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), including those at Okhla, Keshopur, Yamuna Vihar, Nilothi, and Pappankalan. Additionally, the government plans to establish 40 new Decentralised STPs (DSTPs), 13 of which are under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme. The statement added that all unauthorised colonies must be connected with water and sewer lines by December 2027. Officials have been told to phase out old pipelines and prevent stormwater from mixing with sewage. The chief minister has urged the public to treat the Yamuna as a 'sacred heritage', She said the campaign would involve large-scale public awareness drives alongside technical and administrative measures.

Now, UP cities to be monitored on basis of green initiatives
LUCKNOW The Uttar Pradesh cabinet on Friday approved the urban green policy aimed at driving sustainable, eco-friendly growth in urban local bodies. Under this, a green city monitoring system will be developed to evaluate and award green star ratings to cities based on their environmental efforts and green infrastructure. The policy will give new shape to cities with development of vertical and rooftop gardens besides Miyawaki forests. The state cabinet by circulation approved the proposal, which was a revolutionary step for environment conservation in accordance with the vision of chief minister Yogi Adityanath. The urban green policy was an important step in the direction of environment conservation and help reduce the impact of climate change, said an official spokesman. The objective of the policy is to boost green initiatives and efforts for sustainable and inclusive development. 'This policy will be a game changer and targeted intervention for urban greening,' said principal secretary Amrit Abhijat. Under the provisions of the policy, a three-tier strategy would be adopted to boost green initiatives at the level of cities, localities and buildings. Mini dense forests would be developed expeditiously in urban areas through the Miyawaki forest concept. At the same time, green fairs would be organised in cities to boost green initiatives and develop green belts, sponge parks and low emission zones. At the locality level, schemes would be worked out for development of community gardens, pocket parks and adoption of parks. Green building standards would be made mandatory for construction of new buildings with use of environment friendly material, energy saving technology and green roofs would be encouraged. The policy provides for financial assistance with coordination between the centre and the state government. The financial assistance may be procured from Amrut 2.0, national clean air programme, central and state finance commissions. Besides, urban local bodies may mobilise their own resources and also get funds from CSR and other sources. The policy paves way for setting up of green city monitoring framework and the state's cities will be ranked as green +, green ++ and green +++ on the basis of green initiatives, and cities with high rankings will get awards. The policy will be implemented in three phases. In the first phase (2025-2027), it will focus on smart cities and main metropolitan towns. In the second phase (2027-2030), cities with a population of 1 lakh and above will be covered. The policy will be implemented in nagar palikas and nagar panchayats in the third phase after 2030.
