Loopy Godinez 'living the dream,' entered UFC on ESPN 64 with full confidence despite two-fight skid
MEXICO CITY – Loopy Godinez entered UFC on ESPN 64 with confidence that she would not only have the full support of the crowd, but also get her hand raised.
On the prelims of the event at Arena CDMX, Godinez (13-5 MMA, 8-5 UFC) defeated Julia Polastri in what turned out to be one of the best fights of the entire night. Godinez clearly took the first two rounds of the fight, but Polastri (13-5 MMA, 1-2 UFC) made it an all-out brawl in the last frame.
Throughout it all, the crowd chanted for the Aguascalientes-born Godinez, which was something the 31-year-old strawweight certainly expected fighting on home soil.
'I wasn't surprised,' Godinez told MMA Junkie and other reporters during a post-fight news conference. 'I knew it was going to be a crazy night. I know I have all the Mexicans behind me, and I wasn't wrong.'
Godinez came into this matchup in a tough spot. She dropped back-to-back unanimous decisions to Virna Jandiroba and Mackenzie Dern, but those outcomes had no bearing on this fight, according to Godinez.
'I don't put stress like that on myself, because I'm living the dream,' Godinez said. 'I knew because I had such a great training camp and I knew how it went and how I was doing in my training camp, I knew I was going to get the win tonight.'

He won that fight against Alexander Poppeck by TKO in the third round. The victory earned him a UFC contract. Hill made his official UFC debut in January 2020, winning a decision over Darko Stosic on the main card of an ESPN+ event at PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina. He then faced Klidson Abreu in May 2020. He initially won that bout by first-round TKO, but the result was later overturned to a no-contest because Hill tested positive for marijuana He followed that fight with a December 2020 TKO over former interim light heavyweight title challenger Ovince Saint Preux. A submission loss to Tyson Pedro followed Rountree's defeat to Sanchez. However, Rountree went 3-0-0-1 after that setback, scoring three knockout wins in his victories. Eugenio Suárez homers twice to reach 300 in the Diamondbacks' 14-8 victory over the Rockies
DENVER -- Eugenio Suárez homered twice to become the third Venezuelan-born player to reach 300, helping the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Colorado Rockies 14-8 on Friday night. Suárez, who tied his season high with four hits, went deep in the fifth and sixth innings to reach the milestone. He trails only Miguel Cabrera (511) and Andrés Galaragga (399) among Venezuelan-born players. Ketel Marte drove in five runs with a three-run home run and two-run double, and Ildemaro Vargas finished a triple shy of the cycle and hit his first homer of the season for Arizona, which had a season-high 21 hits. The big offensive night spoiled Austin Gomber's first home start of the season. Gomber (0-1), who began the year on the injured list with a sore left shoulder, made his season debut Sunday at Atlanta with five scoreless innings, but was tagged for nine runs and 12 hits in 4-2/3 innings against Arizona. Diamondbacks starter Zac Gallen (5-8) navigated through five shaky innings to get the victory. Colorado sent 10 batters to the plate in the fourth and scored six runs to take a 7-6 lead. Ryan McMahon and Mickey Moniak homered and Hunter Goodman had a two-run double in the inning to rally from a five-run deficit. Suárez's second home run of the night and team-leading 24th of the season stretched Arizona's lead to 11-7 in the sixth inning. He leads the majors in RBIs with 65. Colorado has hit seven home runs in two games against Gallen this season. He had given up two to the Rockies in his previous 15 starts against them. Diamondbacks RHP Merrill Kelly (6-3, 3.41) will make his 17th career start against Colorado, facing LHP Carson Palmquist (l0-4, 7.76).
