District administration maintains high alert despite Indo-Pak truce
Nagpur: District collector Vipin Itankar confirmed on Sunday that while the situation returned to normal and all planned drills were called off for the time being, the administration remains on high alert and fully prepared for any eventuality.The district administration earlier convened a high-level coordination meeting with all departments, including the police, RTO, and healthcare.
The meeting was held ahead of the now-announced ceasefire, prompting questions about whether the precautionary measures would still be implemented.Collector Itankar, speaking to TOI, clarified that despite the temporary calm, all departments have been instructed to remain fully prepared in accordance with guidelines from the central and state govts. "We issued all necessary directives to the concerned departments," he said.He added that a comprehensive meeting was conducted on Saturday with key officials to align the response strategy and ensure operational readiness across departments. "The situation is currently stable, but we are alert and ready. All departments are on standby, and if any situation arises, we are fully equipped to carry out drills and implement emergency measures as required," he stated.While normalcy prevails, the administration continues to prioritise vigilance and proactive readiness to respond swiftly to any developments.

Karnataka moots 7-yr jail for fake news, 2-5 yrs for misinformation

To fasten accountability, the bill states special courts will be set up with Karnataka HC's concurrence, with a sessions judge presiding over one or more districts. The special courts will issue directions to intermediaries, publishers, broadcasters, or any other persons exercising control over communication medium disseminating misinformation to persons in Karnataka. The proposal gives aggrieved parties 30 days to respond to notices. If directions are ignored, then the court can issue punishment of simple imprisonment of up to 2 years and a fine of Rs 25,000 a day, subject to a maximum of Rs 25 lakh. The bill suggests action against directors of companies and employees who were present during the violation of the laws if their company is found guilty.

Prayagraj family thanks Indian govt, embassy for arrangements in Iran
Prayagraj: Indian embassy officials have made elaborate arrangements in Mashhad city for the 20 members of Dariyabad-based family stranded in war-torn Iran for the past one week amid escalating tensions with Israel. The family, which was relocated to Mashhad from Qom, also thanked the Union govt and embassy officials for taking care of the elderly and children. About 20 members of the family, including elderly and two kids, had gone to Iran on pilgrimage. They were supposed to return on June 13. However, due to Israel's strike on Iran and the subsequent cancellation of flights, the family members were shifted from Tehran to Qom city and then to Mashhad.
