Al-Hakim: Iran shocked the world

Shafaq News / On Friday, Iraqi Wisdom Movement (Al-Hikma) leader Ammar al-Hakim praised Iran's response to Israeli strikes as 'a way that astonished the world'. Speaking at the fourth annual conference of Imam Hussein's orators ahead of Muharram (the first month in the Islamic Hijri calendar), al-Hakim stated, 'The Islamic Republic pursued negotiations, but then faced treachery and absorbed the shock.' Regarding Parliamentary elections, he urged Iraqis to participate 'widely, effectively and conscientiously', advising voters to choose 'righteous individuals on clear, service-oriented lists.' Meanwhile, the Grand Imam of Najaf Friday prayers, Sadr al-Din al-Qabbanji, predicted that 'Iran would ultimately dismantle the state of Israel.' In his sermon, he stated, 'This battle will end either with Israel's demise or its defeat, as per their historical narratives limiting their existence to 80 years.' He called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to surrender to Iran and urged US President Donald Trump to send a handwritten apology to the Iranian people. Al-Qabbanji also demanded compensation for Iran's material and non-material losses and the lifting of sanctions, warning that failure to do so would mark 'the eternal end of Israel.'

Iraqi Counter-Terrorism launches operation against ISIS in Kirkuk

Shafaq News/ Iraqi counter-terrorism forces launched a targeted military operation in southern Kirkuk on Friday, destroying ISIS hideouts in a rugged valley long used as a base by the group. A security source told Shafaq News Agency that elite units from the Counter-Terrorism Service, backed by air support, conducted a field operation in Wadi al-Shay, within the Daquq district, south of Kirkuk, destroying several ISIS shelters used for movement and concealment. No casualties were reported among Iraqi forces, according to the source, who noted that further preemptive operations will continue in Wadi al-Shay and surrounding areas to sever supply lines and deny the militants haven. Wadi al-Shay is one of the most challenging terrains in southern Kirkuk, with dense vegetation and interwoven hills. It has served as a strategic hideout for ISIS remnants since the group's territorial defeat. The valley has seen repeated operations since 2018 by the Counter-Terrorism Service and Rapid Response Forces. Its location — linking Kirkuk with the Hamrin Mountains and stretching toward Diyala and Saladin provinces — makes it a critical corridor used by militants to move and launch attacks.

Iraq enters Arab nuclear emergency group over worries of radiological impact

Baghdad ( – The nuclear regulatory body in Iraq announced on Wednesday the establishment of a united Arab crisis cell aiming to prepare for potential nuclear emergencies. This initiative comes in response to escalating regional tensions regarding possible US strikes on nuclear sites in Iran. The effort, which involves regulatory authorities from around the Arab world, was formally launched during a virtual conference presided over by the Director-General of the Arab Atomic Energy Agency, Salem Al-Hamdi, according to a statement cited by the Iraqi News Agency (INA). Iraq is represented by Deputy Director of the National Authority for Nuclear, Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Control and Chairperson of the Arab Network of Nuclear Regulatory Bodies (ANNuR), Sabah Al-Husseini. Officials from Jordan, Lebanon, Yemen, Kuwait, Libya, Bahrain, Tunisia, and Sudan attending the meeting decided to set up a regional operations center to allow immediate tracking and crisis communication. The initiative will provide prompt notification and coordination for any unusual radiation levels. The step follows concerns that Israel or the United States may strike Iranian nuclear facilities, which are less than 1,000 kilometers from Baghdad and even closer to major cities in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
